Future England Players

To be fair to the hellspawn, anything in the Mail is likely a) ghostwritten and b) specifically written to cater for the lowest common denominator.

I know he gets a lot of grief for his 'punditry', often entirely justifiably, but having not watched him for a while and then catching the post Reading 'wash up' at the weekend, I was pleasantly surprised at his analysis of the game. When talking about Lambert he really focused on his first touch and ability to make a yard of space with intelligent movement. When someone brought up the typical lazy comparison to Grant Holt, Redknapp said that he had far more in common with Sheringham with his style of play. And he didn't once say literally. Ruud.

ps: none of our players will be future regular England players, with the possible exception of Shaw, if he moves.

If we keep playing like we have been in the past few games and take the form into next season, you have to fancy a cavalcade of caps regardless of it being Saints - Flowers and Shearer under the necromancer Branfoot, anyone? Think that Poch and Cortese may shock a few 'big club centric' pundits and journalists over the summer and start some belated head scratching about 'little Southampton'...

It's a good read but oddly the man who misses out from that piece Jay Rod I think could be our most likely canditate. Whilst I think Shaw is a nailed on England regular in the years to come, both he, clyne and Lallana have many rivals for the spots.

Lambert's age plays against him but both Jay Rod and Cork have emerging reputations, both are young and both play in positions where England lack quality (up front) or the options are on the wane (defensive mid). I think Jay Rod will need to match Lambert's goal tally next season but if he does he'll become a squad regular.

I think that article is spot on about Lallana as well, England don't have many players like Lallana, two footed, can play with his head up and has great close control as well as good composure, I don;t think there are many players who currently play for England like Cleverley, Wellbeck, Young etc. that could match him in this regard and his lack of pace should not be the decided factor. Whilst not maybe the same class yet he has a lot of Corzola about him and if he can add a few more goals to his game he's worth a go as he could make a difference against those stubborn sides England so regularly fail to beat. I reckon he could be football's version of Trescothick.
