Saint Garrett Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Absolute joke really isn't it. I don't know how anyone can get excited about the dross that plays for England.

Lallana's Left Peg Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 I've no issue whatsoever with Carroll being called up (and playing) as long as we play to his strengths. But if we continue to call up players and not play to their strengths then I'll lose all interest.
Colinjb Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 In fairness, Carroll has been playing well since returning to fitness. Rickie hasn't exactly been on song recently either.

The9 Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Hodgson is an absolute clown anyway Fancy coming out with the rubbish about going to Prem games and not seeing any English players He did get cross-questioned that "maybe he was going to the wrong games" after that... Batman Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 He did get cross-questioned that "maybe he was going to the wrong games" after that... what did he say? surely though, he must know how many english players he is likely to see
The9 Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 what did he say? surely though, he must know how many english players he is likely to see I wasn't informed of his response, I think it was Ed Chamberlain interviewing him, possibly at the PFA do, but those are some vague recollections and assumptions glued together by supposition. I would expect whoever it was that told me this would be able to clarify on here, assuming they see this as it was a conversation I had immediately following the Fleming Park game on Saturday. Anyone ?
Pancake Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Hasnt Carroll scored 4 in 5? Isnt Roy picking based on form? Isnt that what you lot have been crying out for him to do?

There needs to be a compromise between form and style, just like there's no point picking 6 goalscoring strikers in the same team.
farawaysaint Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 He's looked very good recently I don't have a major issue with this barring the fact that when Rickie was on fire he wasn't given a chance.
Saint Mikey Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Can apply it to countless examples over the years. Many good players get overlooked and limited players get called up. It's a bizarre but long-standing mess. Yet the media and many fans just say 'they're not good enough' when the team fails, never looking in to why it's always underperformance rather than an exit with pride. Plenty of countries with more limited resources produce solid, committed teams. Some even try and keep the ball. Yet England prefer headless chickens who'll run all day and tackle hard, rather than show any real football intelligence. Even Carrick who is key to the title winners often got overlooked for England. Lampard and Gerrard aren't central midfielders, never have been. Great players in an advanced role for their clubs, but at CM it just leaves huge gaps. Yet Carrick was still ignored in 2012. When questioned Hodgson said he didn't know if Carrick was available for selection. Not picking him was stupid enough, but not knowing key information when it's a phone call away? Just plain odd. Carrick actually turned Woy down in 2012, as he didn't want to go as a Squad player. I would suggest that that has a lot of bearing of his current non-selection and hence his quote... jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Squad consists mainly of average players who are picked on reputation and club bias alone. Would Wellbeck, Cleverley, Milner, Jagelka, Smalling and Lescott get in any of the true (Not FIFA rankings) top 10/15 national teams? Very unlikely. What's worse is that Wellbeck, Cleverley, Milner, Smalling, Jones, Walcott, Chamberlain etc are the 'future' of the National team. Decent top flight players, but never ever going to win us anything...
beatlesaint Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 If he gets picked and launches himself at a keeper the way he did at the Man Utd one the other week he wont stay on the pitch. Foreign refs wont put up with that.
Wes Tender Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Carroll has his uses. He's very adept at falling down like a sack of spuds and writhing about in feigned agony as if he'd been shot. We might score a few goals as a result of the free kicks he will win through fooling referees. Other than that, he's just a big lump with a footballing brain the size of that possessed by most of his admirers
The9 Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 I've never seen a footballer LESS suited to international football in 2013 than the Bambi-on-ice Carroll we saw with the ball at his feet at Euro 2012. He looked like he didn't know how to dribble a ball when given the space to carry it into, and appeared absolutely petrified.
Saint Benali Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Think the same can be said of the OX. Not getting into his clubs team so shouldn't be anywhere near the national team. If that started to happen it might make players think about joining clubs where they are more likely to actually play.
Turkish Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Hasnt Carroll scored 4 in 5? Isnt Roy picking based on form? Isnt that what you lot have been crying out for him to do? Exactly this. DuncanRG Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Carroll is the right man to call up now. Lambert was a month or two ago, but that's the way it goes.

MOSaint Posted 2 May, 2013 Share Posted 2 May, 2013 Playing well since he recovered from Injury, so why not? It's not exactly like he'd be taking a spot in the squad from a world beater or anything. I'd also like to see Cork get a chance, played well all season and England haven't got anyone in the middle who can put in a good challenge so we usually have to suffer watching Michael Carrick playing like a Poundland Pirlo while supposedly average teams walk right through us on the counter.
