Saint Bones Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 Out with the sh1te - and in with some fight. Well we can only hope/pray/is there any others that this is so. Surely the board can see this current team is not capable in this league. A few new experienced players are NEEDED. Only time will tell I guess - But please guys - Don't leave it to the last minute. Bailey Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 On paper, we're not actually that far from having a decent side. We could probably do with a bit more experience and strength and fingers crossed Jan is working on that. Assuming Poortvliet/Lowe persist with this 'Dutch formation', then the team could potentially line up as follows . . . --------------------- Davis ----------------------- James ------- Perry ------- Saeijs ------- Molyneux ----------- Schneiderlin ---- Surman --------------- Wright-Phillips -------- Euell --------------- Skacel ------------------- Saganowski ------------------- Subs Bialkowski, Lancashire, Gillett, Lallana, McGoldrick IMO, that team has a strong spine, a nice blend of youth and experience, and would probably put up a good fight against most sides in this division. Realistically though, I can't see us fielding a team that looks remotely like that due to the strong emphasis on youth.

That's not a bad team, but there's no point in playing the yoof now because they're not going to be sold in this window and the priority has to be staying in this division. With the `player wages' advert in the Echo you'd think that they were working to get rid of Euell, Saganowski and Skacel. But they will look to replace them with cheaper versions if possible. I think another CB wouldn't go a miss. I'd also like to see defensive midfielder that can actually control the football (ie not Gillett) as we are lightweigth with the non tackling Surman and Schneiderlin. The entire right side could also do with a revamp IMO. There is not a right sided midfielder at the club making 4-4-2 difficult unless we play attackers like Smith or BWP. If we sign a RB and we need to, Lloyd James would be better suited to RM IMO. Agree with Adrian on Lee Holmes, he should be playing as him and Skacel are by far the best crossers of a ball at the club although I don't expect Rudi to be here by 1 Feb, hence Molyneux. We just need to give them a decent header of the ball to aim at now!
Andy_Porter Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 A hard tackling midfielder to play next to Schneiderlin and a brick **** house up front and with the right coaching I think we could stay up with out current squad. Could probably afford to lose Skacel and Euell if the CM and CF where both good enough. Wouldn't mind losing one of Surman or Lallana to fund the signings either. Lots of pressure on the new Dutch CB and Saga to hit the ground running though, both will be very important I hope there isn't too much pressure on them. That would probably be 3rd or 4th priority.
1965onwards Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 When you consider all the players brought in,whether loan or not,it clearly shows that Lowes view that we could manage with our young players was complete ******.

Scudamore Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 You say that, but Holmes isn't exactly youth, and he's been excellent and deserves his place. That actually brings the age of the side UP by dropping Molyneux and having Skacel left back. Lallana brings the age down, but he's better than Euell. McLaggon brings it down too, but in what I've seen, he's going to be better than BWP. Still, that's one position that's really up for grabs by anyone. Of course we've yet to see whether McLaggon can cross a ball yet have we really? I'm dreading the day that he stops being the player that i describe as "looks a bit like Nathan Dyer" and becomes the player that "plays a bit like Nathan Dyer"! Hopefully that will never come to be true...

It can also add stability to the team and that's important." Can someone look up the definition of "u-turn" for me? Cheers.

team-saint Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 if we're playing a team of crap youngsters then euell should be in their for his leadership and experience. but if we're just picking the best team like we should to then lallana is better than euell so pick him. lallana needs to learn to shoot and he shouldnt be played on the right but in the hole he can become a great player. he can dribble like messi

He's twinkled his toes Anders Svensson like and then done next to nothing anders svensson like. His work rate is spot on but end product? Still waiting. I need to see a shed lot more from him before I start using the term excellent.

Not too much end product, and his finishing is not top class, but a decent centreforward to aim at would help him. A fit Holmes will be a plus as far as I am concerned.Plenty to come from him I think.(Or hope!)
