TijuanaTim Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 ...about the next few games. All the right noises coming out of dressing room (screw the politics), the new Dutch CB wants to succeed in England, Saga sounds up for it and even JP is promoting fight rather than only talking 'bout "De boysh musht pahsht de ball a lot". Anyone going, get behind the team and give an extra chant for all of us distant fans that would love to be there getting behind them!!

You are crazy Lots of times over the last five years I thought things were going to improve but my hopes have been shattered by a poor performance. I cant see much improvement is going to happen just because we have signed a new CB and Saga has returned
m4ttdog Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 i think we can be optomistic, we have smith and holmes in and if they can provide some service i think we have the right man to convert some chances and/or hold the ball up right to create a few for the others i the enw dutchman will add some bite to our set pieces and stir thigns up a bit, if darren moore has to mark him, that means we have a few extra players that can make things happen, and he sounds like he can clean up our defence and hopefully hes not too scared to bark some orders at the youngsters

All season we have been 'talking the talk' but never 'walked the walk'. We talk a good game, we talk up the young players, we even talk up the manager and coaching staff yet we are in a crappy predicament. Less talk and more action methinks. Things at SMS are pretty serious right now and the sooner the players realise that games are fast running out the better. At our current points per game ratio we are certainties for relegation - they are the facts. Optimism yes - but blind optimism no - time to get real or get relegated. Snowballs2 Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 We have been optimists all season , now reality strikes. We are stuffed, unless you can blow in the ears of the players and get them to perform how Lowe keeps telling us they can.

Read with Tims original comments and you have a decent balanced view. The trouble is when results do not come, it does not matter what people say, it will be badly received. What matters for me is that the players still appear to be behind JP but their confidence is low and that explains why they are afraid to shoot on goal. That sort of thing only needs one good performance to change and maybe Saga is the man to give them that confidence.
hypochondriac Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 I actually agree with Tim on this one. Holmes is back, we have a new cb who looks handy, saga is raring to go and we have surprised a few teams just when it looked like we would get killed. Grumbling is only going to make things worse but support might just be beneficial. I'm praying for 21st and we aren't out of it yet. Win even 2 of the next 3 and our situation looks heaps better. Ok cork has gone but I'm hopeful that saga and the cb will add some experience we need with skacel davis perry and even surman nowadays! Add a mean dmf and we have a good chance of survival

Seeing Watford getting tonked by Reading I realised that our side must actually be able to play football at a decent level getting 4 points from Reading this season. Yes, the inept performances are plentiful but I just need something to keep the perspective. I just found this forum recently (kept running into a "game over" message at the old forum) and I am astounded by the pessism-bordering-mass-suicide that prevails here. Either I'll give it a go as happy-clappy makeweight or I'm off in the near future. Give me you worst...

Great Attitude Mate and welcome aboard with 'Captain Bligh and the new ship of fools' (as Gil Scott-Heron so eloquently once paraphrased). We're gonna energise people, encourage support of the team (note I say team and not 'club') and find a way out of this together. More stark raving mad fans the better!! Lazlo78 Posted 9 January, 2009 Share Posted 9 January, 2009 To be honest I've decided long ago that the only way I can support a football club is by staying positive. Then second I'd feel suicidal about Saints I'd quit being a football supporter. But to turn that around, I'll never quit supporting Saints so that means I'll never be a negative supporter. Q.E.D. Don't mistake that for not caring about the results. I absolutely hate it when we lose. But long term plans like Jan & The Kids will always excite me - whether they succeed or fail. Oh and one last thing: life really, really is too short to care about boardrooms. Suits are suits - it's what's happens with a ball on grass that gets my attention

The day with friends, a common bond and interest. And, yes, this is the first time I have really get behind and related to our team for a long while. These kids should get our support, as any team should that get out there and do their best for us. They don't pick the team or select club policy...they just try to score-defend and entertain. TijuanaTim Posted 10 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 10 January, 2009 this thread is a refreshing change! :-) Hey JB, join the upbeat crazies. You just never know it may catch on - become infectious and even work it's way onto the playing field, have a motivating influence on the players which in turn will encourage more fans to come thru' the turnstiles and spiral until we become an attractive proposition to potential buyers. Come on everyone, visualize it and it has little chance of working. Don't visualize it and it will never happen. Come on you RED AND WHITE MACHIIIIIIIIINE FFS...hey it's Friday night here and I have t'get ready to go out, so exchange views later hopefully. Hey and I do understand everyone's cynicism let's try and fight it!!

sidthesquid Posted 10 January, 2009 Share Posted 10 January, 2009 I'm with Tim. There are far too many people on here who, to quote Mrs Doyle - 'like the misery.' They wouldn't know how to cope if we started doing well. Blame, recrimination, navel-gazing and re-writing history on all sides of the argument gets us no-where. People were even blaming the finance director chap yesterday as they'd run out of people to blame And now I'm doing it, blaming the people who go round blaming everyone else..... Where does it end? Madness, but not a good madness like Tim's. So I absolve you all. 2009 is going to be a good year for Saints - we'll definitely finish the year higher than we started it and by 2010 we wil be back above the Skates and order will have been restored to the chaotic universe. I'm going for a little down now before I take my medication.....
obelisk Posted 10 January, 2009 Share Posted 10 January, 2009 Almost a strange religious fervour on this thread which I find a little unsettling because it chimes with my usual growing optimism before the game starts. Smiling eyes raised to the sky regardless of prevailing circumstances turns me off a little so I hope you don't mind if stay outside of this sect, especially since I'll probably be having to drown the usual sorrows tonight. I'll go my own way with a borrowed bus ad along the lines of: There probably is a Rupert Lowe so keep worrying while trying to enjoy life with Saints. chivvy1664 Posted 10 January, 2009 Share Posted 10 January, 2009 Im a bit more optimistic with the return of saga (god be good again) and if the centre back lives up to expectations.
