Jan "we didn't play a bad game"

I particularly like this quote from the dutch wonder

“We were all hoping we would win this one but we didn’t do it. There was a big pressure on the boys and it will stay like that, because to win you need to score goals.”

Have you heard of this new concept that you need to score goals to win?

I'm actually not sure why you disagree with what Poortvliet says. Do you deny that Saints dominated the game and had far more scoring chances? In other words, we did play well, we should have won, and victory was denied by the problem that has plagued us all season: an inability to turn dominance of possession and scoring chances into goals. The only player who has scored a reasonable number of goals, McGoldrick, is all the same still an exceedingly wasteful striker, and no other striker or midfielder has stepped up to the plate with meaningful goalscoring contributions. I'm not sure how a different manager is supposed to turn dominance of the ball and of scoring chances into more goals scored, unless by being allowed to bring in (or back) a less wasteful striker. We can only hope that Saganowski will make a difference and/or that McGoldrick will finally start to convert more of his goal scoring opportunities.

It's not difficult we don't have any width. This makes the defence almost impossible to break down and exposes our fullbacks and the CBs because when the move breaks down, there is acres of space behind our fullbacks and midfield.

If this was the case we would be 20 points clear and certs for promotion this season - perhaps somebody ought to tell JP that goals make points - not triangles...!

Actually I do. I thought that overall it was fairly even but Kelvin made more outstanding saves than their keeper did.

In a younger, yet more experienced way :smt102

they dont have any old hands that have been there and done it..the only player with prem experience is earnsahaw...their back 4 are 19-23 year olds...as is the midfield

we have...kelvin, killer, euell with prem experience (granted killer is injured)

saga back now

euell

rudi all with international experience

we also have surman and lallana - two players wanted apparently

we also have a (supposed) hot prospect in morgan

hmmmm

I think we have the more experience dont you think..?

Now you have really blown me out of the water. You had to go and mention high flying Forest didn't you. I can see them winning this league and not fearing relegation at all with all those extra points they currently have over us. All bloody three of them!!

ok...wolves are on par with us in terms of age...(well they were before the start of january)

I agree, I was being facetious!!

It's more annoying that we can't harness that experience.

I don't think Wolves have been putting out a side week in week out that is anything like as young as ours. That paperwork exercise you did in the previous post only shows what players we now have and are using. You know fair well that most of those experienced ones have not been used until recently.

Take a look at this table...http://www.statbunker.com/football/btb/index.php?PL=competition&CompID=246&statType=seasonsquad.

We have the youngest average squad age, with more under 21s starting a match than anybody, but there are only 8 teams who have played more over 30's. We have also used the joint highest total of players so far this season. ( Mind you, it does say that none of these teams have started any English players so far )

The echo doesn't seem to agree with you here mate, man of the match, Kelvin Davis!!!

Jan is still insisting we played a reasonable game and seems to be suggesting that fan anger was unjustified. thoughts?...................

Either he's in blind denial [-( or Wooperts hand is up his jacksie controlling his every word :smt078 or he is enjoying a very nice industrial strength dutch weed :weedman:.

we had the best of the play in the first half, although donny had some decent chances themselves. Their goals were soft, but i believe that the first was offside. Once they had scored the lads looked like they had the weight of the world on their shoulders - much like the England team do at Wembley - you could see them tensing up. As we all know, England have quality players that are for whatever reason inhibited when they pull on the 3 lions shirt. It was exactly the same at sms as soon as the goal went in.

This scenario is not the fault of the management, more a symptom of the situation the club finds itself in. I like Jan and think he could do a decent job in better circumstances, however now more than ever i wish we had a pearson esque character calling the shots and looking after the young players.

If Jan can show them how to pass the ball and play nice football, can he tell him how to shoot properly. Did anyone remember how funny Lee Holmes and Lallana 's shots were? Even I don't know should I call them a joke or not.

Leicester did last night:

Take out Howard and Oakley who are older than me  then also Dyer who is over the hill at 26 and their ages were:

23, 21, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 22

"That shyt3 manager Pearson would only work with old warhouses who would have cost us a fortune."

"He would never have used the youth"

"He would have wanted to have spent loads."

"We couldn't afford him".

"Just look at the calibre of the side he inherited".

Those are the excuses used by the Lowe apologists - you can see similar ones on here this week blaming the crowd for not hitting a cows arse with a banjo, not being able to tackle for toffee or for playing the same bizarre tactic for 90 minutes when it clearly isnt working.

Its anything possible to hide the real reasons for the mad mans decisions.

when i was a kid in the 80s i remember going to a match against birmingham city in the old first division. it was 0-0 and then 5 mins before the end city scored and this sparked a massive pitch invasion protest from the fans which the donny game reminds me of. it's some kind of groundhog day.
