Martinez wants to make Dyer move permanent

Looks like he will be sold for at least a few hundred grand in the Summer. In which case well done to Lowe for offering him the new contract. If he had not then Dyer would have walked away for nothing. Funny how some on here could not see why Dyer was given a new contract!

A few hundred grand by summer would have gone on his wages.

But agree it would be good business if we can cash in now for a £1m ish.

That goal against Skates would have raised his profile, so heres hoping.

I wouldn't have thought so seeing as he's been on loan at Sheff Utd and Swansea for all but a couple of months of the time since he signed the new contract last summer. If we can do a deal that gets us a million plus a sell on fee I think we should sign on the dotted line ASAP.

Not suprised. Good winger who'll get better and is cheap.

Never understood why he got a hard time on here (besides the stealing!). Inconsistent, but has the pace, and far more ability than Smith, BWP, Thomson who've played right wing. He was brilliant at Burnley, and a few early games for us. Just needs a settled run in a side playing in the same position. Would be far happier with Holmes left and him right.

Disagree about Thomson - on his showing last year in the reserves he is equally gifted with pace, and his crossing is much better. LOL at all those giving him stick for being unfit. At least he's scoring, which is more than can be said for those he's left behind here.

he is way to lightweight

reserves and league 2 are suprisingly different to the championship this also show with players like lancashire who many people said was good for ressies but atm doesn't look good enough for the 1st team...

Guess it depends on how much Swansea would be willing to pay. I would expect they are looking to pick him up for something like £250k, which IMO we shouldn't accept. If they come in with a million, then we should take it. I definitely feel it was right to offer him a contract in the summer. It was do that or lose him for free, which would have been a bit foolish, given he does obviously have potential. All the time that Dyer stays at Swansea and performs well, his attractiveness to other clubs (and subsequently his transfer value) is increasing.

are you joking...right?

Reports last year when he was fined put him on about 5k a week so assuming his pay didn't drop in the summer which seem unlikely his yearly pay would be 260K plus the extra cost of NI contibutions for the club so that will cover a 'few hundred grand'. Fortunately (assuming we are only interested in making money on him) he's been out on loan for most of the season so we shouldn't have been paying his wages allthough I'm not sure how the Sheffield United contract would have worked with us having that 'striker' on loan at the same time.

But Martinez goes on to say that there's no particular rush in this window

his wish is more long term. Hope he's still as keen come June that's all.

Well I was too lazy to read the article but in any case, we shall see what the future holds. I wonder if any players will leave?

I like Thomson, but I'm talking about right now, not the future, and Jake is playing in league 2.

Point taken. Still, Dyer was SO frustrating last season when he did play - just like Hammill. Fantastic down the wing, but the final cross was never reliable.

Would love to see what James could do with a little time further up the field. His crosses are better than both of them, but until we get a proper RB...

Might of mis-calculated a little bit.

As has been said already, bar one month Dyer's wages have been paid by Sheff Utd and Swansea this season. I don't think one months pay for him will equal what he will be flogged for so it remains an astute move to give him a new contract in the Summer rather than let him walk away for nothing.

So many conflicting emotions on this one. On the one hand Dyer has been distinctly average most of the time he has played for us. He has pace but only seems to have 1 good cross per game in him and keeps running down blind alleys. On the other hand he is young and learning and Kenny was pretty gash whilst he was still learning his trade here.

I guess you have to look at it that the only reason we gave him a new contract at all was so we could sell him on. I think anything above £500k and I'd take it TBH. If selling him means we keep Davis, Skacel and Saganowski then so be it.

It's not always about being lightweight. Lancashire isn't lightweight, he's just too slow and doesn't react quick enough. One might argue he just isn't good enough, or isn't good enough yet, but it's not about being lightweight.

Thomson can't be written off as lightweight in this context if it's a choice between him and dyer, who is smaller and no doubt lighter.

considering i didn't say Lancashire was lightweight i was comparing the two, and ofc it is about being lightweight everytime he plays against somebody with good strength hes going to pushed and played off the ball... and when did i say Dyer was better? i was just saying that Thomson in the games i've seen him play hasn't looked good enough yet he may improve and time is on his side tbh

1 million and he yours ;)

I agree but we shouldn't sell for less than this imo.

I don't get why the hell we got him to sign a new contract if we have no intention whatsoever of playing him? Suppose it was so he couldn't leave for nowt

I would agree with you he is by far the best winger we have got and has the talent to improve defenders do not like players with genuine pace and Dyer has that cannot understand after getting him to sign a new contract sending him out on loan mental get him back and get him playing he may be a thieving little gobsh1te but he is our thieving little gobsh1te GET HIM BACK

With a decent manager he could be taught to be less headless and give the ball away less, so could turn out to be an asset for Swansea. Not for us though, so sell. I expect we'll get about 50% of what we should, given our desperate plight and the fact that all clubs know we're desperate to recoup anything at the moment. Need to insert a clause saying he can't play against us though if the sale goes through quickly.

PS you have to question the judgement of someone who goes to a nightclub in Southsea

Swansea City are ready to smash their transfer record to land Nathan Dyer on a permanent basis. The Evening Post understands Swansea are prepared to pay in excess of £500,000 to turn Dyer's loan switch from Southampton into a full-time move.

Let them bring the cheque for 800K on Saturday then.

That will be a result even before the game starts.

I wrote my suggestion on this a while back...

£1 million up front NOW, another £1 million if /when they get promotion and

25% of an eventual sell -on if /when he moves to a bigger club.

Considering the deals for Bale and KJ . Dyer was in the same bunch as so this is a good deal for Swans.

They can have him for the cost of 3 points on saturday and a 7-0 win to go towards our goal difference. :-)

This makes more sense to me, we give players away for points without actually playing any games., as we climb the table. I can see us in the play off final with only Pulis or Gasmi to offer up for the prize......

Dyer Move May Cost £750k

By Rob Davies - 29/01/2009 17:35

Swansea will have to break their transfer record - paid for Ashley Williams from Stockport County - if they want to make Southampton man Nathan Dyer a permanent fixture at the Liberty Stadium.

The Evening Post report that Dyer may cost £500k but the fee could rise to £750k which would eclipse the previous record broken paid to County.

Swans manager Roberto Martinez is thought to be keen on making the winger a permanent player at the club before the January transfer window closes on Monday.

And you can understand why after the performances that the pint sized midfielder has produced, with an assist and a goal already since agreeing a loan move from the St. Mary's Stadium.

Should he continue that standard of performance, there will undoubtedly be bigger clubs in the chase for Dyer, who could compete at a higher level financially than what the Swans can afford.

The 21 year old winger won't be eligible to feature against his parent club, unless the staff at the Liberty Stadium can strike a deal with the Saints prior to Saturday's fixture, which looks unlikely at this stage.
