Depends where you went - Sussex, Essex, possibly LSE of old (not now) known to be left wing. Exeter, Royal Holloway, Warwick - the biggest student societies were Conservatives and the academic payroll reflect this.

I went to a northern red brick uni.

I can still remember the Medical Virology lecture where the lecturer said "Forget measles and polio, let's consider the application of Marxist ideology in the pathology lab".

The political influence of a higher education institute may affect an individual for perhaps 2 elections post graduation, but surely after that their voting preference is going to be more influenced by the "offer" in manifestos and lived experience.

Starmer’s position of “sharing your anger” about his mate is a bit much.

Also, what is the point of security vetting if a pretty blatant lie can make any findings irrelevant

My missus just said she didn’t understand why everyone is making such a thing over this, has she missed something? Obviously the desperate to be outraged will but I generally couldn’t give a fuck either.

Indeed. My impression was that links were found and then they just took Mandy's word for it and disregarded what was found.

It's a judgement thing for me, and that leads to trust & confidence.

The knives are out for Starmer, so I think it's a kind of last straw thing. If he'd been performing well, I think the reaction wouldn't have been as extreme.

Will it be a load of nothing if the PM ends up resigning?

You can't have a party leader appointing someone who ends up in jail, they have to go.

That's why Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage both resigned when they did it....

As Egg says the knives are out. This in isolation isn’t much of a thing….to me. A shot appointment but only an Ambassador

0.9% GDP growth predicted by BofE for next year. Staggering to have this despite all the Marxist legislation passed. Maybe Ralph’s mates are just shit at their jobs and should settle for something less demanding more suited to their skills?

Mate, they're all in Dubai quivering from inheritance tax worries.

As an aside I don’t get the anger towards Sir Ralph. He has some differing views to me but nothing that riles.

It's the constant lying, deflection and unwillingness to answer questions honestly.

Oh, and the fact that he supports and defends grifters, racists, paedophiles and rapists that irks.

It's pathetic really isn't it. TDMickey getting all upset when Ralph simply answers his question telling him how he'd vote. Some (not all) of you on here need to show a bit more respect for people with a different opinion.

Which is why I say some of them live in an echo chamber. They only want to hear their left wing views and nothing else - everyone else is an idiot to them. Like you say not everyone but there are a few like that. A characteristic of them is they get abusive.  It is pathetic.

TBF, there's been much normal discussion over the past few weeks - and there has been one main reason for that. I'll give you a guess as to what that reason was.

TBF, a lot of us have Ralph on ignore now, but unfortunately others quote him so we do see his drivel every now and then.

Left libtards cannot show respect for other opinions. Mental Mickey is the worst of them by far as you can see. I figure he is a very angry teenager.

Its farmer, SOG and Mickey. Others, you may have differences or spats but it doesnt tend to get personal or abusive. Saying people are racist, advocate sex crimes / criminals and the death of innocents is frankly embarrassing but an often reverted to strategy, all because you hold a different view. Today is a great example.

100%. Not everyone BTW whelk is generally reasonable even if he fancies taken the piss on occasion. Some others can't handle different opinions.

What about consistently accusing others of enabling/condoning child abuse, as does the poster to whom your post was a reply ?

Maybe focus less on others and reflect on what people said about you. You only agree with anyone on anything when it fits in with your narrow minded view of the world and other people.

🤣

You might be bothered about what people say about you, but I don`t care what people say about me especially on a forum.

TBF Farmer summed you up earlier today so I guess you are upset by what people say but to be honest he was spot on we have all seen your posts

I'm not upset as I dont attach much weight to what people like you and he say. However, I have more self awareness so when people that are more balanced say something about me I will take that onboard. Enjoy keeping your head in the sand though. A lesson for me on this forum though, as Mark Twain said: Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience

Marketisation has made universities completely different to when we studied there regardless when they were part of the public sector landscape which is not the case these days. The decisions they make now are about attracting students, both domestic and international (as these pay much higher fees) and research funding, both public and commercial, plus spin outs. No time to act on any historic inclinations around ideologies, because with no capital grants around these days, they have to raise significant funds to repay borrowings on new buildings/labs and re-invest. Effectively, they are large not for profits with marketisation elements.

In smaller and medium-sized towns, expansion has probably been too much and you get a clash of gown and town, but generally they’re an important part of local economies.
