Friday Abbas scheduled to make his debut for Notts obviously vs Hants. An often absent Abbas would probably have been a better overseas option than what Hants finally chose.

Notts starting to steady themselves now. I had hope before lunch...

Well, as we wasted a goodly part of the advantages given by the new ball and the helpful wicket this morning, we are now paying the price.

Two of the dropped catches were just ordinary, don't miss those.

Wicket for Abbott, umpire couldn't refuse that one, probably tried though.

Far too reliant on one man Kyle Abbott, where will be next year without him ?  [ Unless he  surprisingly or unlikely carries on ] Certainly do not expect the club to get next years 4 day recruitment right, yet again.

Depends on the new owners I suppose. From what was said by the commentary team today, it would seem that the affaires are still being run by the old team until about October.

Wheal opening the bowling says cut priced affair to me.

Abbas working his way through our middle order.

Doesn't look a particularly difficult thing to do though. Technique against accurate bowling sorely lacking. Abbas isn't even that fast, but it's straight and not short.

Think we might even be asked to follow on.

5 now for Abbas, whilst his replacement doesn't even get in the team.

Excuse my ignorance but why did Hampshire let him go……or didn’t he want to stay?

Abbott saving us - with bat and ball. Batsmen should be ashamed of themselves, surely Albert has to be dropped now - it’s just not happening for him and getting a load of ducks can’t help his confidence - get him in the reserves to remember how to bat.

Yet again we have a disastrous 1st innings - 0 points

Orr has to be given a chance and is any one really surprised that Abbas took 5 ?   Surrey,Somerset  and Essex are not running away at the top of the league and we cannot even get one batting point, totally pathetic apart from Abbott and Prest.

They let him go as without Vince felt they needed to use the overseas slot on someone to bolster the batting. Initially with the Aussie allrounder Edwards but then he got injured and they ended up with Abbo's mate Hampton who can't get in the team after a couple of nothing games.

Aah ok, thanks very much.

With IPL in  limbo I wonder how soon Brevis could start playing for Hants.

T20.

What we need right now is a bowler, our bowling is lamentable this morning. Prest not helping once again by dropping a routine catch in the deep.

We'll lose here unless the weather intervenes.

The rate that we are going, Notts would not even had to bat again,if they had had a slightly bigger lead in the first innings. Totally shambolic why  did we bother with Stoneman [ Cheap ? ] and Prest for all his talent has got to learn to knuckle down when we are up against it.

To me Prest looks like a Vince bis, just can't resist a swish against wide balls.

The rest is just undisciplined rubbish right now, club needs a total shake-up, starting with White and the head coach.

Brown and Gubbins now out to village green shots, what  disgraceful batting performances in both innings. Notts showed in both innings if you see off the hardness of the ball, that you can score decent totals.

Window Cleaner I will never understand how Giles White has been allowed to say so long. Perhaps the Indians will have more input next year.

Something is evidently radically wrong at the club. Perhaps they've all got some virus or other but I'd doubt that. The dropped catches, the wild bowling apart from Abbott and the shaky batting and village green shots isn't just a coincidence in my view.

Stoneman has been half decent, Albert and Baker need to be dropped.

We can’t even contemplate winning anything until we learn to build a good 1st innings score. 4 batting points from 5 games is laughable.

Hope now is that we solidify mid-table. More performances like that and we’ll be looking down.

Liam Dawson in England T20 squad so will be missing a bit of T20 Blast.

Good for Liam, we are very unlikely to make Finals Day this season. Can’t complain, we’ve had a lot of success in it.

Albert needs to rotate the strike to get his innings going. He’s getting stuck struggling with timing and far too easy to subdue and ultimately he’ll eventually take a risk to move on.

Baker dropped, Albert given another go. Seems odd that we’re persisting with a failing batting line up - can’t say they are not being patient (or they think reserves are nowhere near the grade)

Orr has already scored 3 hundreds in the seconds,he must be totally pissed off with the batting unchanged yet again.

It seems odd, Middleton needs a score and got out for 4.

Albert can defend but not get it off the square. Needs to rotate the strike, get the bowlers thinking and ease his way into some touch. Scoring 7 but taking 60 balls is excusable if he was facing Ambrose, Holding, Marshall and Walsh. But he isn’t.

Another spineless effort,on according to the bbc cricket site a perfect batting track. Prest and Albert gifted their wickets again. Why was the batting not addressed in the winter ? A relegation struggle on the cards ? Lets not forget Warwicks scored 665 in their last innings at the ground.

Tail batting better than the batters again. The number of times you see an Abbott or Fuller outscore the batsmen. Better from Albert but was getting horribly stuck (can’t rotate the strike)

Fancy Warks to get a big score but at least we have got close to 300

The day ended better than it started, just about scraping that second BP and then a couple of early wickets. You do wonder why Orr can't get a game.

I didn’t have ‘lead by 106’ on my betting slip at 4pm yesterday, so fair play. Fletcha already living dangerously with his first ball.

Let me express my opinion on here

For a few years we have had a problem with opening batting. At present we have Orr, Middleton and Stoneman (bought in for a year to give a bit of experience to that position)

Albert was tried last year but he is not a natural opener. Organ has demonstrated he does no have the technique to bat as an opener.

The club have persevered with Stoneman and Middleton but Orr is now not far away from getting his chance.

With the loss of Vince the middle order needed strengthening with an extra batsman, hence Albert batting at 7. As he develops I see him moving up to No 5

Organ is seen as a bowing all rounder as is Fuller. If it seams, as it is at present Fuller gets the nod. If spin is expected Organ gets that spot.

Abbas was not re-signed because we were looking for a quality batting all rounder. With Edwards injury a few weeks before the start we had to look elsewhere with very limited choice and Hampton proved not to be the answer.

The batting all rounder was to help support the young bowling attack so they could play some 1st Class Cricket. If we had Abbas they would not get a game and we would lose them.

When Wheal came back after the winter break the club were pleasantly surprised at his massive improvement from day one and he has proved to be the perfect opening bowler. He has 19 wickets so far. Abbott also came back fitter and has continued to show himself as world class.

This season was realistically seen as a development year. Of course the club want to go one better than last year but there needs to be a quick development from those younger players to achieve that.

We won the opening game. We batted all day in two to get draws, one was a weather problem but I think we would have won it we had 4 clear days. The only hick up was the last game.

OK, we have not batted too well this game on what was suggested a good batting strip but we have a good lead. Lets see were that takes us.

The old bowling guard won us that game - Abbot and Fuller - fair play to both but it’s not really their job to carry the batting and bowling (which they did). That said Middleton and Albert were the only batsmen to deliver in the second innings so club patience has been somewhat rewarded.
Weston’s post excellent and where I see things, but as he points out the need for an experienced all rounder was a bit unlucky and a bit poor recruitment in a critical position.

Really good result and excellent bowling against a very dangerous batting line up - got to be happy and that will take the pressure off the young batters a bit.

Good to see Turner given a go as well, only fair given Bakers performances which in turn I hope motivate him.

here’s a question - Weatherly, is he just a one day player now ? (Ironic given he started off an opener). Surely we need another batter to put pressure on our top order (outside of Orr)

I have been following the match on  England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) - The Official Website of the ECB

Over in three days at was made for seam bowlers and we won pretty easily although Albert and Fuller threw their wickets away in the second innings

Despite the Fuller and Abbott getting the plaudits it was Middleton and Albert who helped us to victory eventually as scoring was not easy with the pitch having variable bounce with Brown and Dawson dismised with real wicket taking deliveries

It was a great cricket wicket and we won pretty easily dropping catches especially in the slips did not help apparently Dawson does not want to field in the slips at the moment

Back to the bowl at the weekend with probably the same team we know the team needs a couple of standout players but it is doing OK I feel
