That was very much a benchmark day for us as a club as this is when the era of the match day experience really started to kick off. An era defining moment which i cant believe i missed to be honest. I think there was also a firework display before kick off which paved the way for the awesome light shows we now enjoy. We always have been very much leaders in the match day experience tables. IIRC the singer of CKTC had a Chelsea shirt on underneath his top and pulled his jumper up to show it towards the Milton end as they left the pitch. 1
ant Posted December 18 Posted December 18 I'm late 30s. And whilst we really ought to have added to our major trophies during my lifetime, reading this thread makes me realise I've done alright out of big memories. For me, it'll take some doing to beat the Coventry match that secured promotion under Adkins. The thumping result itself, in such a crucial match; The feeling of being BACK, after nearly ceasing to exist; The celebrations at the final whistle, and long into the night; Being there with my uncle, who's the reason I support Saints in the first place - he used to cart me around to home & away games as a kid. 1

Great day. I think you're right his name was Ben, he was on First Dates recently. He never mentioned waving his Chelsea shirt in the direction of the DEF when he spoke to his date, which surprised me Edited December 18 by Turkish 3
sambosa75 Posted December 18 Posted December 18 Jim Branning immediately comes to mind. Wasn’t even a Saints fan was he?
PaulSaint Posted December 18 Posted December 18 Some great moments, many I was there for. Just two that I need to add: Mane getting the quickest hatrick. Long getting the fastest opening goal.

Noodles34 Posted December 18 Posted December 18 I was there for Ali Dia, still recall being quite impressed for the first few minutes or so Neil Ruddock running the entire length of the pitch to headbutt a Notts County player Matt's penalty miss (well, keeper saved it) at the Archers Road end

That has reminded me - what about the bruise brother (Neil and Shearer) coming on as subs to turn round the Swindon cup tie, from 0-2 to 4-2 in the Nichol era.
redkeith Posted Friday at 10:02 Posted Friday at 10:02 The whole of the 83-84 season for me. It is the only season that I managed to get to every game home and away. The cup run was brilliant, makerel stuck on the spikes at the away end at Forest, The Sheffield Wednesday forward getting hit on the head by a makerel and of course the Steve Moran goal at Fratton Park. It finished with a 3 1 win at Notts County to seal runners up spot . Strangely , the letters page in the Pink was filled up every week with people moaning about playing 5 at the back ! 1

Lambert tucked away 2 dubious pens in the last 10 mins to win it for us 3-2. The years under Adkins were the best for me. Proper football. This is still my favourite away game. Early train up, between the 5 of us we decided to chuck £25 on a long shot bet - picked a Lambert hat trick at 25/1. Right behind the goal for the penalties. Absolute chaos afterwards. 1

From memory the first Sky game was a Monday night game against Man united in August 92. I remember the air being so dense with firework explosive after the match it was difficult to breath. I think the CKTK game might have been Leeds United the following month - also an evening game. Didn’t the lead singer goad the Leeds fans during their ‘set’?
Willo of Whiteley Posted 16 hours ago Author Posted 16 hours ago An odd one, but the second goal against Coventry (2012, Jose Fonte). It was a cagey opening twenty minutes and we got that first goal through a deflection, and the second came minutes later. After that goal went in it was almost a sense of “yep that’s it, we’re up”.
the colonel Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I was in the home end with a pompey mate and his family. I had to stand there and watch, while smiling wanting to cry out. Went on to beat his dad's darts team mates that evening too. great weekend in Portsmouth,
benjii Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Has anyone mentioned Dellhurst Park yet? That was a great away day.
Breeny Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Used to love the walk to the Dell from the Haymarket Tavern via Plested pies !
