redkeith Posted Saturday at 14:11 Posted Saturday at 14:11 My nephew recently posted a picute of himself with Steven Davis . My wife didn't know who he was, so I described her to him as a good player, 8 out of ten every week but not really a Man of the Match. Got me thinking, in this international wilderness of a weekend, as to whether you could build a Saints 8 out of ten team. Here is my effort. Peter Wells Jason Dodd Claus Lundekvam Malcom Waldron David Peach Matt Oakley Morgan Scheiderlin Nick Holmes Steven Davis Paul Rideout Phil Boyer Nothing fancy, but good enough no to get relegated. Have I missed anyone ?
bpsaint Posted Saturday at 14:23 Posted Saturday at 14:23 Santa ‘Claus’ was definitely not an 8 out of 10 every week. 1

VectisSaint Posted Saturday at 15:25 Posted Saturday at 15:25 Harsh on Peachy (and Davo for that matter). 1
Holmes_and_Watson Posted Saturday at 16:33 Posted Saturday at 16:33 8 out of 10 is my all star team. 🙂 So that's mainly Lawrie's team. I'd have had Telfer in the above. And I'd not have had Claus or Oakley. Obviously, I'd have Holmes in any team. 🙂
Turkish Posted Saturday at 19:55 Posted Saturday at 19:55 If a player was 8 out of 10 every week they wouldn’t be at Saints very long 😂😂 don’t you mean more like 6-7 every week? Solid, steady rarely had a bad game, some times good 2
Midfield_General Posted Saturday at 20:18 Posted Saturday at 20:18 (edited) If we’re talking championship level then Breezer is a solid 6-7 every week. Never going to set the world alight but just gets on with it, does a job and we miss him when he's not there. Edited 11 hours ago by Midfield_General 3

Lighthouse Posted Saturday at 21:43 Posted Saturday at 21:43 The only consistent 8/10s I can think of were Toby and Virgil, even Mane, Tadic and (to an extent) Tiss blew hot and cold. Solid six and seven is probably more fruitful; Niemi, Bertrand, Fonte, Lovren, Killer, Davis, Pelle, Le Saux

Noodles34 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Morgan? Jesus, did you ever see him play? One of the best midfielders we’ve had.

Remember: Door Mat was not a player, but was our last PL season. 🙂 Tbc Tbc - Matthew Bound - Matt Mills - Matt Targett Tbc - Matthew Oakley - tbc - Matt Robinson Matt Le Tissier Matthew Paterson

I am open to any suggestions for any other steady Eddie players. Maybe that chase back and tackle that Morgan did at Old Trafford disquallifies him.

S-Clarke Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Jack Cork? Played a solid part in our promotion from the Championship, and came into his own in the PL under Poch too. Solid 6/7-10 player for me. Can't remember too many stinkers, just steady. 1

And I'm surprised you've overlooked versatile full-back Matthew Robinson, who could play both sides and made four appearances under five different managers between 1994-1998 before becoming a copper; Matthew Marshall, a right-half who played once in 1894; and Matthew 'Gunner' Reilly, who made two appearances between 1895-96 and as a former Gaelic football player was able to turn his hand to a stint as a glovesman.
