I got the impression he was up for another run at the Championship with us. 

A bigger problem against Colchester was playing Matsuki alongside Downes in central midfield. Once Bragg came on we looked much more solid. If we invite teams to overrun us there we'll have problems against whoever we play.

The only thing that's going to help fans get over the loss of THB at this stage is someone decent like this bloke followed by Jordan James or someone of similar quality and the Lazio striker.

Absolutely no chance we sell him for that. But £25 million I can see if he actually wants to go or maybe someone else will come in and offer 30. We said earlier in the summer he is free to go if we get what we want for him so it's likely he's aware of that. Will be a massive blow if he does, particularly at this stage of the window.

If there's one thing that Sport Republic do well it's that we usually get good fees for players leaving. Alfie House alluded that we would be looking for at least the same fee that Charles left for, but I'd harbour a guess that it would be £30m guaranteed + add ons. He's not going anywhere for £17m.

What is the financial state of Portugese football? I mean do clubs pay the kind of wages he would get with a move to a Premier League club in England ?

Whilst they are a huge club are they really breaking the bank to sign THB? Seems very unlikely but who knows?

I think they are preparing to sell THB. I very much doubt it is to Portugal but you can bet there are a number of clubs interested whose interest has not yet come to light.

Not as good a passer or as comfortable on the ball as THB (in reality, who is that could be available to us at this level ) but he’s powerful, strong, good at set pieces both attacking and defending being 6 ft 5 and has experience in the champ, would be a very good signing IMO. Left footed so if he was to go LCB alongside Taylor would be ideal but can’t see it

if we are selling THB for anywhere close to what Benfica are quoting they are interested in paying then we have lost the plot. Personally i'm still to be convinced there is any truth in these rumours and that it's nothing more than journalists, if you can call them that causing mischief

He’s right footed, played predominantly on the right side for Sheffield United. Looked comfortable on the ball to me as well. Was their captain for a period including when in the PL I think. Sounds like a pretty like for like replacement to me.

Benfica’s highest ever fee paid is 25m euros. Given we’d want at least what we got for Charles, they’d have to pay around 10m euros above their record transfer to get him. Unlikely.

The price offered for THB is not unreasonable looking objectively at what a Championship CB should go for. 

Thing is, THB is probably one of the few players we have that’s worth MORE To Saints than whatever the Open Market valuation might be. 
 

THB, CL, LS, DP,Jander and Ryan Manning are worth more to the club this season than supposed transfer fee - IMO. This squad has several Moneyball players. Let them play and deliver SR!

I was hoping all our big out going transfers would be sorted before the season started so this would be quite disappointing, especially considering our need for a fast start to make up for the null of void that the club handed out last season. 

If he does go then we'll need to spend big on his replacement. Stephens/Wood screams bang average Championship CB pairing.

SaintsExtra isn't making it up, he does not make things up he just collects stories and circulates them. He is reporting what journalists like David Ornstein of The Athletic have said.

Yeah I agree, that SaintsExtra in particular does nobody any favours at all yet people, especially lazy journalists, looking for an angle (and lets face it anything negative about Saints this season will be lapped up) just run with it and it snowballs.

I doubt it. I think the club would know that wouldn’t happen. Shifting the players you really dont want normally comes at the end of the window as buying clubs work through their options and/or hope for a bargain price.

Losing THB this late in the window will be a real sickener but if we get £30m then that is impossible for a championship club to refuse in reality. Bit disappointed in our transfer business this summer, especially after what happened at the end of last season and Dragan’s promises. We are unquestionably weaker than last year (Stewart, Charles and THB will collectively be a big loss), are starting on -4 and will inevitably have to deal with some kind of Tonda ban/situation in mid-September. Frustrating.

True but he’s not always right. He was peddling Yan Diomande to Liverpool as a formality all summer and it turned out to be wrong. Clearly Benfica have bid and, let’s be honest, there’s no way THB doesn’t fancy that move. Whether it gets done at the right valuation though, who knows although the mood music sounds a bit like he will be off.
