Dman Posted yesterday at 09:10 Posted yesterday at 09:10 Thought this was worthy of a thread on the main board. Local Lad & big saints fan fighting for the interm world title at St Mary's next saturday. Plently of tickets left (hence big push from the club) and some are pretty affordable. Not just Ryan fighting, there are a few other local lads on the undercard. Probably the only time you'll get to see professional boxing at St Mary's and with the weather set fair, get out and support the lads! https://www.southamptonfc.com/en/events/event/marching-in-ryan-garner-vs-michael-magnesi 3
Dman Posted yesterday at 09:12 Author Posted yesterday at 09:12 Mods - might be worth updating the spelling typo on the thread name 😃
SaintsLoyal Posted yesterday at 09:40 Posted yesterday at 09:40 Overpriced sadly, doesnt look like more than 5k sold
TheAlehouseBrawlers Posted yesterday at 09:44 Posted yesterday at 09:44 Should have been a bit of a promotion party........probably a bit soon for a stadium fight really, maybe somewhere like the O2 Guildhall first may have been better (like the Steve McCarthy (RIP) fight when the other fella's mum jumped in the ring and attacked him 😁). Unfortunately also clashes with Paul Weller at Southampton Sessions that was always going to be popular and I think the IOW festival is on too. Hopefully gets a late surge in ticket sales. 1

Paul Chuckle Posted yesterday at 10:26 Posted yesterday at 10:26 Isn't there a season ticket discount code or have I imagined that?
EssEffCee Posted yesterday at 10:30 Posted yesterday at 10:30 Far too early for him to be fighting at St Mary's. Especially when you consider that we're not a huge boxing city.
DellBlockH Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago OK, I don't like boxing. I don't like the idea of a sport where the aim is to injure your opponent and to inflict possible permanent brain damage. But, if I were a fan, would I want to watch it from the sort of distance likely (apart from the ringside seats) at St Mary's? Surely the whole point is to see the intricate hand and foot movements or, as a non-fan, have I completely got this wrong?

All true, plus the world cup is on, I've met Garner and he's a top bloke, doing exceptionally well at his sport , I'd love this to be a big night but demand just isn't there for live boxing and at those prices wont be many casual fans who go along. Hopefully Saints ticket offer will fill a few more seats

Hopefully Saints ticket offer will fill a few more seats Tbf I’d say boxing events sell very well in this country ordinarily, unfortunately for Ryan Garner he’s in a weight class that traditionally doesn’t tend to pull in big numbers. According to the minutes from the fab F.A.B meeting the club are expecting a turnout of 12.5k which will still look pretty shite in terms of empty seats. This is where the city could really do with a 10k arena to make the city a destination and pull in acts that we have no venue for. Toys R Us site or even better the old Leisure World would be perfect for such a thing. Unfortunately our council can’t see past any plans that aren’t student accommodation or cruise parking. 3
Soton7 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Boxing is a brutal cut throat business. If you’re not welterweight or above, not a big ticket‑seller, and don’t have a strong abrasive cuntish personality, the odds of reaching the top or selling out venues are stacked against you. This is a decent card, with excellent local boxers. But the venue doesn’t justify the demand. Plus going to a boxing event isn’t exactly a premium experience unless you have decent seats. About 95% of the crowd are hot‑blooded males who think they’re prime Mike Tyson and spent two years training in Dagestan- it really does attract the worst type. There’s usually more entertaining fights outside the ring. I hope there’s a good turnout because the fighters seem like genuinely good guys. Maybe they should add in a co‑main event: Gibson vs Parsons, 6x 1 minute rounds at catchweight, with Tonda as the special guest referee. Ticket sales would triple overnight. 1
