The Godfather Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 Current forcast is light snow but tomorrow is going to be 5 degrees warmer with only sleet/showers forcast. I'd be surprised if we get as much snow as we did last night. Game on.
Murdock Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 I would guess that having the pitch ready is only half the battle. Lets not forget tis quite a way to come from Sheffield, also consider the closures on the M25, M1 today, not to mention more snow due later. Or maybe the staff want to get the match played before Rupee gets back from his jolies..what wnaker.
Charlie Wayman Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 On or not, it's gonna be EFFFFing freezing up there tomorrow with all that steel and concrete sucking the heat out of everyone and everything. Most definitely I will not be getting my cajones frozen solid just to watch another Saints sh*t-or-bust effort of the "quality" they served up on Saturday. If you lads have any sense you'll give it a miss as well.

The Saint Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 The pitch may well be playable, but the club also have to consider the safety of the crowd when arriving and leaving. Not just the roads, but the pedestrian access for the (maybe 12,000!) crowd. I remember a game at The Dell being postponed because the toilets were frozen!! The pitch was fine. We should also be considering the fitness of our players, suspensions, their long drive down, a reduced away contingent perhaps (even though we have their cash already;)), any suspensions and injuroes they may have, costs already incurred, and then make whatever decision suits us best!!!!!!!!!!!! But that's their problem isn't it. Will do them good to be worn down by a 5 or 6 hour trudge in the snow and cold. Fair play?? who me.

Minsk Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 I should hope the game is on. It makes me laugh how a bit of snow over there almost brings the country to a halt. Although the football season here obviously doesn't run through winter, we did have a lot of snow for a few days before Bate played Real Madrid here. The pitch was fine but the whole crowd stood all through the match because the seats were covered in about 5 inches of frozen snow (all the seats in the Dynamo stadium are open to the elements). Athough that was dangerous too as the concrete in front of the seats was like an ice-rink - they're not too bothered about health and safety here. suewhistle Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 Well, here in the Alps my team hasn't been able to play since just before Christmas: coincidentally just when my international clearance came through (this is amateur for-fun womens footie you understand!). Two weeks ago we arranged an internal friendly and by the end I had to chip and lob the ball to pass it as it was snowing and settling so heavily! As for being cold watching a footie match - there's no such thing. Wear your long johns, girlfriend's tights, base layer, fleeces, scarf, hat, gloves - no probs. You'll just get into a muck sweat in the pub afterwards.:-)

(I remember going to the Brizzel game in the back of a furniture removal van, talk about brass monkeys). There was a Boxing Day (12 noon KO) game against Chelsea at the Dell, that although not in the snow, was played on virtually a skating rink. A god-awful 0-0 draw if I remember correctly. JustMike Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 it depends on how quickly it all melts, the arsenal game was called off yesterday morning, the pitch may be fine but its the walk ways etc etc that will cause the problem
krissyboy31 Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 The Bradford game last night was called off less than an 90 mins before the game, which is not fair on anybody, the fans, the players, the officials or the media. They probably left it as late as possible because it was due to be on Sky. Let's hope they make a definitive decision well before due kick-off time. No inspection due though, according to SSN. Wes Tender Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 I hope it's called off as I'm not in the mood to go anyway. I just feel that after the protest on Saturday, the time has come for us to stage a mass boycott as the only way of shifting Lowe. We played well enough on Saturday, but didn't get a home win yet again. I've really reached the stage that I'm pis*ed of with shelling out £48 a game for me and my lad and not seeing a win for it. The club should have given discounted prices for matches after the Nottingham experiment, but show no sign of doing so. I've had enough of paying Premiership prices for watching the players of last season's youth team, although there are some of the better older players being given a game more recently. It's bloody cold out there and if it goes ahead, I'll listen to it on the radio. In the meantime, I'll hope that there will be some developing momentum for a mass boycott at our next home game, but I'm starting early.
