The Fat Controller Posted 12 April, 2009 Share Posted 12 April, 2009 Forget the politics... Get Keegan in now as gaffer and restore some pride to our club. At worst we are League 1 next season minus 10 points , we'd still get 25,000 through the door and he has done well in the lower leagues. The dutch experiment was sh*te at best ... change it now to save our club. Investors will see Keegan as a marketable asset- Mcmenemy youve signed him before now get him back again ASAP

M271 Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 Whether its Keegan or someone else Saints certainly need to appoint a proven experienced manager. We may need to pay well (not easy at the moment but things may change) to get the right manager, but i feel that having a cheap unproven manager rarely pays off. I good manager can more than pay for himself by making cheaper unmotivated players play to their maximum and gel as a team, for seasons now saints in my opinion have had a good enough squad of players but have under performed individually and as a team. Keegan may be a good call as he may want to get back into management but not at the top level and he may not demand top wages or even medium wages, he must have accumulated some wealth from his playing days and managerial contract payoffs !! chocco boxo Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 I have been against Keegan in the past but with us at such an all time low you know he would give the place a lift and put us in the League 1 spotlight. He would probably get a few old boys involved on the coaching staff and generally make this club feel like Saints of old. Who cares about him walking out? He has already done that to us!! ;-)
Ewell Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 and there was me thinking we are in administration and have no money. Maybe I dreamt our current situation up? If we get out of it and get a new board then Keegan would be fun. He would attract players and investors so sounding him out now maybe a nice carrot for the administrators. He would not stick around though and his last couple of jobs have hardly been roaring successes. At Man City he failed miserably despite having money and if we are honest he was never going to turn Newcastle around. The worry would be as soon as he has words with the chairman or fan base then he would be out the door. The guy is a quitter and I am not sure we need that mentality for next season as we have enough players with it already.
Ricky Redstripe Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 Keegan wouldn't come in as he doesn't have millions to spend, unlike everywhere else he goes. Don't get me wrong I like him but we have no chance of getting him.

His success at Fulham was really on the back of some serious funds which we don't have though. If he could return for the remainder of this season then it might provide the surge and impetus required.Lon term though we need someone to build the club back up. The dutch experiment was sh*te at best ... change it now to save our club. Investors will see Keegan as a marketable asset- Mcmenemy youve signed him before now get him back again ASAP Wonderfully nostalgic idea....BUT...there a few more BUT'S here, for example, even bringing in Keegan NOW (I take it you don't mean TODAY?) would mean that (a) He, may / may not know we no longer play at the Dell ? (b) Does he know who the players are now? ..and could he pick a " better " team from the players we have now ? © Will the eventual new owners like the idea, and maybe they have other ideas of their own for manager? (d) Has Keegan been really successful as a manager ? ..I know he took Newcastle up when they were bottom of the bottom...but he's " hopped off " other managerial jobs whenever there was a dispute / or criticism (England / Newcastle (again)..and there will be lots of that in CCC or League 1. The idea of " legendary " players becoming good managers doesn't work. Mark Hughes is about to get sacked, Roy Keane did no better, BRYAN ROBSON was worse than anyone. Even playing for Man.Utd (it seems) is no recommendation for great success as a manager. Sorry I think we must to brave it out and see what the new owners want. I like Keegan, and would give him a free seat anytime he turns up (except he could afford to buy the stadium)..but as manager - not really! SET Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 this has to be a wum. we need a manager with the guts for the fight, one that wont cry off and vanish at the first hurdle. Said it before and i'll say it again. If the club is saved and there is money to pay a decent wage, then Adie Boothroyd is the obvios candidate. Acheivied success as these levels before and try's to play football the right way, when presented with a squad capable.

WestSaint Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 What we need is a PROVEN manager for the league we will be fighting in. One that has excellent knowledge of the league and knows how to get out of it with the CV to back up those credentials You may not like Sturrock, I happen to, but he does have those credentials All those calling for the big names may ask themselves why they do not have current employment - Too expensive and flatter to deceive
Cabrone Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 I like KK but can't see it. He likes bit of cash and I doubt he's too bothered about going into league 1 TBH. How about a young ambitious manager with good experience at successfully managing in the lower leagues and with a bit of a name to bring in some decent players. How about Paul Ince? All this assumes we'll survive the next few weeks of course.
