alpine_saint Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 Hard to argue with. And you have to wonder how many he cost us during the season too. I've already said I dont want to see McGoldrick at this club next year.
badgerx16 Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 Maybe; maybe 12 point crap defending, maybe we were clutching at straws all the time
Saint Martini Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 2 today - 10 next year Jep, bad decision by Wotte to still let DMG take them. His penalties are always poor (not too fast and at least a meter away from the post), the only reason he scored a few is because a few goallies guessed wrong. Wotte should have picked someone else like perhaps Euell or Saeijs to take the pens.
Arizona Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 Well, you could look at it as the miss that earned up 8 extra points this season... er... I never got why DMG takes penalties. Especially when we have Surman and Skacel (the latter not today) on the pitch who have both been more reliable in the past.
adysaint Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 Yep 3-1 and we were in striking distance of Forest. Its a good job we were down anyway, cos missing pens in those circumstances is inexcusable. If he stays, I want 25+ goals from him next season till I forgive him. Robsk II Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 I don't like this kind of finger-pointing. Clearly, that miss has cost us, but so have many others this season. Yes, he should've relinquished the duty, and the manager should have given it to someone else - but how many glorious chances have many players missed this term, how many stupid errors at crucial times? No matter how it feels now, where we end up is an amalgam of the season, every kick of the ball. Let's blame the whole team, and judge players on overall performances throughout the season. As it goes, I don't rate DMG highly on most of this season, but one penno miss could happen to anyone and if we'd defended better towards the end, it wouldn't seem so important anyway. Saint Charlie Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 Its not that miss that has left us in this situation. If you take out DMG's goals we would be far worse off. For some reason he has become a scapegoat but since Wotte's been in charge DMG has been generally very good. He single handedly won us the Palace game too. Leicestersaint Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 All true, but our biggest problem is the defence - just look at how may goals we have conceded this year.

I've already said I dont want to see McGoldrick at this club next year. TOTALLY DISAGREE imo over the last few weeks , especially since Wotte has been in charge he has given everything for the club and we will need that sort of committment next season, as someone else said without his goals and KD saves the season would have been over weeks ago. I don't blame DMG, its not like he wanted to miss it but I do blame Wotte. From DMG's point of view I think it is only a good thing he wants to take them, that what a striker should want. Wotte however should look at the penalties he took this season and have given someone else the responsibility. Like I said in my previous post, all DMG's penalties have been poor and I really cannot understand why Wotte still let him take them.
Popester Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 It's only one persons fault and we know who that is !
Robsk II Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 Saint martini, I did concede that Wotte should've given the role to another - I just still think it's worth being reasonable about apportioning responsibility, and Wotte can't be held entirely accountable either. As Popester implies, if you're going to blame anyone completely, it has to be the person that makes the biggest decisions of all.
Wiltshire Saint Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 Nonsense. It is not this one penalty miss that has cost us, it is a season of being sh*t that has sent us down. That is a collective responsibility.

OldNick Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 Tim im really pi#####d off that you put a post up like that. How you can blame him for losing points. he had the balls to take the penalty and many of the experienced players hid when we got the one against Cardiff. This is a hopeless thread and you should be ashamed that a person who who has been around the game so long even starts a thread like this
Kadeem Hardison Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 I've already said I dont want to see McGoldrick at this club next year. Since when have you actually 'seen' any of our players? DMG has been very good over the last couple of months and would be very useful in League 1.

That is a collective responsibility. Fine. But part of the process of changing from being sh*t to being good is getting better players in. And he's one of them. St Paul Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 The pen was poor and I dont rate him as a player. He has picked up a bit lately, but he rates himself too much. At the end of the day I doubt if too many there were surprised he missed it and that's pretty damning .
SaintRobbie Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 2 today - 10 next year McGoldrick lost us the game after he missed the penalty. His body language made him look like a spoilt youth and his mind wondered completely off the game - i knew a goal was then coming for Burnley. Overrrated all season and hailed by Lowe as a must play, he finally relegated us. Must grow up.

Yes, he's scored goals, but he has wasted so many opprtunities and been a Grade-A lazy arse frequently disagree since Wotte's been in charge and Euell has been up front DMG has been our best strike threat and he has, imo, worked a lot harder. we will struggle to get in , in your words " better players" if we had had a better manager for the first 6 months of the season who realised you need a big center half the players we had would have held onto our ccc place. loughborough_saint Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 DMG looked aweful when played as a lone striker under Jan P, since Wotte has used him in an attacking midfield position or as a second striker he has been a different man. Creative, hard working and scores goals. Hes not perfect and makes regular silly mistakes/poor passes but I for one will be delighted if we keep hold of him this summer. I expect him to move to a mid table Champ side but I hope not.
L1Minus10 Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 I think McG has taken 5 pens this season and I think he's 3 out of 5 which is not good enough. What is for definite though is that all his penalties have been crap and it's been keepers going the wrong way that have given him the 3 succeses. none have been in the corner, none have been hit hard. In short, he's a crap penalty taker. Likewise Surman on free kicks... he can;t even ****ing kick a dead ball.

saintsmike25 Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 I don't agree at all. So what he missed a penalty he's one of our best creative players, he's improving too, and gets into good positions and scores goals. He's our top scorer this season, no need for all the hate. At the end of the day it's a team effort not one player.

I've already said I dont want to see McGoldrick at this club next year. well I do want to see him here. he's far from perfect, but he has had rubbish management like all our young players. Since being given a role where he can do his best work, (with the ball at his feet going forward,) he has improved no end. He will score a LOT of goals in L1, and he has plenty of talent. IMO opinion, there won't be too many more talented players in L1. We really don't want him to joinn the ever growing list of Ex saints who were apparently rubbish for us, but flourish elsewhere. He could hand over penalty duty though.

They didn't take the points away for that. For a breach of insolvency regulations. They gave a brief to Grant Thornton, a different one to the club, who insisted GT worked to the club's copy. GT walked out reported back to the league who then with 5 mins notice and no further contact imposed the penalty for the club failing to co-operate. This will run and run. Ta muchly, did read that at some point it was claimed "we" were not as co-operative as what was desired hence GT packed up and left. Which left us with no recourse to refute the findings. aintforever Posted 25 April, 2009 Share Posted 25 April, 2009 I'm amazed a professional footballer can take a penalty as bad as that. Matt le Tiss, probably the Prem's best ever penalty taker, has his DVD in the ****ing club store, you only have to watch that to know the best way to score is to hit it hard and low into the corner of the goal.
