NickG Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4357377.Wotte_believes_in_English_style/ as most on here have said, good solid CF to play alongside DMG.
Wildgoose Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Absolutely agree. However, we're going to need a right back and one or two others as well if possible to be good enough to have a chance to come back up (I know everyone has been saying that for a while now, and I totally agree) Especially so with the -10 start ...... Badger Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Yes we will all agree with that. But I wonder if the timing of this is in anyway connected to the comments from Wilde that the Echo are also running.

Window Cleaner Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 And yet Simon Cox is a couple inches shorter and 10 lbs lighter than McGoldrick. It's not about stereotyping it's about aptitude and ability and style of the side you're playing in.I'd be more chuffed if we got a midfielder who can really score goals on a regular basis. 20 yd thunderbolts are what you need, look at Wednesday's game, defence and attack cancelled each other out and both goals came from well hit shots from far out. Down and Out Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Most suitable player IMO would be Ricky Lambert at Bristol Rovers who consistantly score goals season after season. Holds the ball up well and is a general handful..... and most importantly knows this division inside out!!
david in sweden Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4357377.Wotte_believes_in_English_style/ as most on here have said, good solid CF to play alongside DMG. Couldn't agree more Nick. In our new situation, we need some old fashioned muscle up front and a bit of steel(e) in the back four. Like many I can remember the likes of John McGrath and Dave Watson had in our defence years ago. ..and Oh for another George Kirby (type) at no.9 Ah well, we'll have to wait and see. Smirking_Saint Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Think DMG will have a much better season next year. Plus you can't blame him, playing in a team with no creativity and still scoring 15 (though don't let him near a penalty again). Although Simon Cox would also be a quality signing. I feel DMG CDAJ in midfield TBH. And yes, we are screaming out for some muscle up front, some height. Maybe it's worth sticking and seeing what Euell can do ?? yorkiesaint Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 we also need a typical english goalkeeper who can hoof it to our typical centre forward
samoakley Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 If DMG stays and BWP i think them two would be a great strike force and if we had a typical CF next year we would have 3 good strikers also i dont think we need a new RB James has done very well there i think hes grown in to that postion very well. Smirking_Saint Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Please don't let BWP stay, he is f'kin awfull. He has pace........... and thats about it. The only reason people say he is unpredictable is because you are unsure if he will actually hit the target or hoof it over from 5 yards.
chichestergas Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Hey guys, Bristol Rovers ST holder here. Without being rude, unless you could part with the best part of £1m then there is no way Lambert would go to Saints. He has been superb this season, is great in the air, and scores for fun. Rumour has it that both Huddersfield and Peterborough are eying up £750,000 - £1m bids for him.

The only difference this year is that unless we find 400K by Wednesday week we probably won't have any players, let alone new ones.

Down and Out Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Why would someone that's proved themselves in league 1 want a move to league 1? Football is ridiculous enough that league 1 players scoring that many are now about 2m. We could never afford him and better clubs will offer him better opportunities anyway. We need a good free transfer or loan deal. Good point...but without appearing to be too optomistic or too soon, he would look at us as potential to go up a league as due reepect to Bristol Rovers, I doubt they will go up. Agreed that a good loan is needed either experienced player from the CCC or even ex-Prem! We will see!!!

Is that based on us starting with 10 fewer points than Rovers, or on the fact that they beat us not that long ago, with us possessing what will have been a stronger squad than we're likely to have next season? The9 Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 I couldn't give a crap how we play football as long as we exist and win enough games to keep us out of League Two (or lower) for 2010/11.
Chez Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 can't see us having an money to spend so perhaps Patterson can lead the line. He looks capable to me.

Agreed, only worry i'd have is that he might not get enough goals in his first season. Would really be relying on McGoldrick for goals again, can't really see many coming from midfield either unless Lallana, Holmes and Surman really step up we could be in trouble.
