Three pieces of advice for the new owner

I wonder if we can keep this civil and not open old wounds but what 3 pieces of advice would you offer the new board members to help in planning their tenure (assuming all goes well)?

For me...

1) Make sure the 'product' is good to watch - it's called the beautiful game for a reason.

2) Always hire experienced coaches and avoid managerial staff turnover if at all possible.

3) Be open and transparent with the fans at all times.

oh and 4) Don't invest all of the proceeds of winning the Champions' League in 2014 on a single player.

1. Live within our means - we dont want to go through this crap again

2. Learn to manage fan expectations - 2 wins on the trot and we think we will walk the league and then blame the board for no ambition when we dont

3. Make a NEW start - with teh ovious MLT exception (he has a very clean slate afterall) dont be tempted by nostalgia that you think may appeal to fans - will only divide opinion - we cant live in the past

4. Give it to us straight - dont hide behind a silver tongue and fan platitudes - if things are bad - say so and support will be there

5. If possible, dont be tempted to employ local 'comedians' as pre of half time entertainment...

Can't disagree with much of that. Your 3. nearly made it into my list too as I think that's very important but how far down in the club do you go to ensure a clean slate?

All the way to coaching staff?

Also how will we get experienced management on the football board without retaining some 'talent'? MLT + Lynam + Who?

Or do we hire a bunch of ex-Celtic and Fulham football execs?

Work behind the scenes un-noticed don't splash your names all over the media and most importantly of all don't listen to the fans they don't know what they want.

There is only one thing that all Saints want and can agrre on - that is Saints winning football matches .......it would be a good idea for everyone from Board, coaches, players, fans to concentrate on this

Agree, I really dont want to see Saints playing in the FA Cup final again; what a **** Lowe was eh.

Ah! How distant is that memory and it's only 6 years ago. And look what has come about since. If the new people can undo the damage of those last 6 years and put us back to that stage in another 6 years, I'll be very content.

I truly understand your point and to an extent it is that obvious that it hardly needs stating, but I think we need to get back to some kind of unconditional support for Saints.

If we only "sing when we're winning" then we can't guarantee a stable future for the club.

For me there are certain principles that need to be put in place to ensure that that fans will support the team through thick and thin because I expect us to have a lot of thin in the coming years.

MLT knows his onions and I think with the right publicity from Mr Lynam in terms of communicating teh plans and strategy, we should have a good list of applicants - we are a club that has hit rock bottom and now the only way is up - any young ambitious and serious manager will see us as a great opportunity - we have the infrastructure, teh training facilities and stadium all in place - just need a manager who can build a team and take us back up - seriously we have a good oopportunity here - NO problem with coaching staff still being invlved as the new owners and new manager can reinvigorate coaches as well as players.

2) Always hire experienced coaches

I disagree. I assume you're talking about managers because managers pick their own staff (coaches).

In any case, you need to have a methodical and thorough vetting process, and then hire the best candidate, experienced or not. Experience in itself does not guarantee anything. Even the best managers have to start somewhere.

1) Communicate everything through the Echo and OS (I know the echo has had its moments over the last few years, but it reaches a wider fanbase than this forum)

2) Dont get involved with the usual suspects who will try and crowbar their way into proceedings. You know who you are....

3) Listen to the fans.

Like many I've been through the thick (76, 80's) and the thin (Branfoot, Wilde/Lowe 2nd coming) and I will always be there.....but I can't ever remember in the 70's or 80's so much focus on the Board. It was all on the team and manager. I would love to see fans unite around supporting the team and move away from the ego's on here who think stay away fans and attacking players, coaches, managers, board members actually helps. I believe a stable future comes from winning matches and fans support, but agree we must have a foundation to build on. Hopefully we now have.

1. Irrevocable lifetime bans from the ground for alpine saint, um pahars, StRobbie, Stanley, StMarco and all the other losers who prefer to play boardroom politics than support the team.

2. Retain Wotte and the current crop of youngsters

3. Start comunicating with fans now - the first message said nothing, and we don't even know who is going to end up owning us or what their plans are. Manage expectations now, don't let it drag on.

Wow, straight out of "How To Run a Business Your Way - Even If That Leads To Administration" by R.J.G. Lowe...

Get the squad together as soon as possible..organised and above all else FITNESS..

Our squad have never attained a level of fitness pre season for a while. Some players never seemed to get really fit due to missing the full pre season fitness programme...ala Skacel and that is why he never really showed his true worth..

A good coach/coaching team....Recruit sooner than later..Hopefully already primed...Sorry Mr Wotte, not you.

Yep and for the foreseeable future I think I'd like the best managers to start somewhere else.

Then they can come and join us.

I take your point but I don't think we offer a forgiving environment at the moment for someone to learn their trade.

1) Ensure that all the internal contractual obligations within your group are binding and have clear deliverables

2) Ensure that you carefully complete each step of the planning process and the investigative work that you msut do in these remaining 18 days

3) Ensure that you complete the purchase on the allotted completion date

After that, it is your club, you will understand that to make a profit you need to move up the FL pyramid as fast as possible so do whatever the hell YOU and the PROFESSIONALS in your team believe is necessary to achieve that.

After that it would be good to keep in clear communication with the fans

Install drums at the top of the Northam

Please don't I hated that Blackpool ****...

Anyone that needs a drum can't manage an atmosphere.

I have heard SMS rock several times withoutand musical instruments like Norwich, Wolves in the FA cup, Sheff Utd, Arsenal in the 3-2 win, Tottenham and the 3-0 Skates win so the place can be as good as The Dell.

My advice is to ignore web forums ;-) people state stuff due to anonymity and wouldn't dare say it to peoples faces in real life.

Most of what gets posted is said for effect and response to get post counts up.

1. Employ Stanley to create your forecasts (a true visionary)

2. Employ Alpine to generate the pre & post match feelgood factor

3. Employ NC as public relations, fan unity coordinator

jesus that will mean eastleigh would get bigger home gates then saints:D

Well i do not want to see everything aired in public and would prefer it actually 100% confidential and no boardroom leaks.

Just one bit of advice from me.

Use the model of the Lowe years as the perfect example of how not to do things.

No academy, no shiny new stadium, no premiership facilities in general, no FA Cup final appearance, no 8 year run in the premiership, no resolve and commitment in trying to keep the club going, no prudent financial policy, etc.

Just one piece of advice to the new owners - focus on the present and future and neither dwell or comment on the past. Lead some of our fans by the example you set.

Wes for a man who harps on about letting bygones be bygones you need to start practicing what you preach as you are acting like a man who has fallen in love with their captor and clearly missing Lowe as a focus of your general bitterness and unhappiness.

Could have written that myself. Point 4 does rely on who delivers the message and if things get bad again we can only hope our fickle fans listen to MLT unlike Lowe and Hone before him and don't simply whinge about the entertainment factor. Its going to be interesting.

Ahh, the old chestnut about the player one £12k a week who is to fat to do himself justice apart from some inauspicious arm waving during a match suggesting that it was our fault he couldn't get motivated to run as oppose to the bag of brioche and 2l bottle of full fate coke he munched and slurped through on the way to the ground.

Lets buy or loan in players who want to prove themselevs as oppose to boost their pension reserve.
