  1. Quote[Can I be in the holding role]EndQuote sure, i'll be in the hole
  2. Sadly, that's the position we're in. But I think the way the chairman handles it will be critical -- ie how long do the good young'uns stay until we cash in. If he's fit there are bound to be some inquiries if not bids for Lallana in January. Fulham and perhaps others. But if he goes that quickly -- after just half a season in the first team -- then the future looks really grim. With Theo we didn't have any choice. With Adam, and others, we do in terms of contracts. So unless the bank are literally kicking the door in, I hope Lallana stays for at least this season and next. Big test of the board's long term intentions/ambitions IMO.
  3. Squeaky bum time. coyr
  4. Big Dave was good, but past his very best when he came to us IMO. I always thought Jimmy Steele was a legend too, but mainly because he looked so ****ing hard -- at least he did to a ten year old standing on a box in the Archers.
  5. Too true. Wrighty was class. One of the best centre backs I've ever seen playing for Saints. Along with Killer in his prime, I'm struggling to think of anyone better in the last thirty years. Who else?

  8. Here's a neutral's view from The Guardian -- maybe he wasn't as stupid as some think, just unlucky: Southampton were unfortunate, too, in the dismissal of their teenage central defender Oliver Lancashire, who got a slight touch of the ball in his clattering, covering tackle on the overlapping Damien Delaney. Particle collisions have been in the news for the last few days. This one was neither malicious nor strictly foul. As Jan Poortvliet, the manager, said: "He never had intention to kill someone." Chin up Ollie, you'll be back.
  9. what he said.
  10. Davies and Rasiak. Saga was just what was promised -- a decent player when needing a contract, and then a guy who just didn'[t seem to be able to motivate himself to play his best.
  11. that sums it up for me
  12. That's not a bad shout. A centre back willing to p1ss on all four corner flags could well put QPR off. |And if they were one up with two minutes to go they wouldn't be tempted to play for time in the corners. Nice.
  13. It was indeed £9.1 million as a full and final settlement. Or to look at it another way about £9 million more than we could have got had Theo simply walked. So I presume there is no sell-on clause and canny old Wenger will make a massive profit if/when he gets sold on. C'est la vie.
  14. So you wouldn't put Adam Lallana into last year's team instead of, say, BWP? You wouldn't put Spiderman into a Souness team instead of Ali Dia ; you wouldn't find room for Drew Surman in the Branfoot era? We're a mid-table Championship team at the moment so I know what you mean. But memory does fade with age my friend.
  15. We had no choice, but there's an awful feeling of what might have been this morning. Theo running the show for England, Bale running the show for Wales... good luck to them and roll on doncaster away on a wet wednesday night.
  16. No, he was going to be selling/loaning our most highly paid players. Rasiak, Saga, Davies, Viafara all gone -- and Euell, Skacel, BWP would have gone for a decent offer, and may still go on loan. Personally I would have kept Greg over Stern, and told Stoke they'd got enough of our former players already when they came in for Davies (they re-signed Higgi today as well and maybe they'll take Kelvin on loan). But we have no money and aren't in a position to argue. And btw my Spurs supporting mate says he'd rather have kept Pekhart than brought in Fraizer Campbell for 7 mill. Let's just pray he's right.
  17. Notice the OS is making much of the fact that he's grown up with Spiderman. Hope that doesn't make Gasmi this year's Imants Bleidelis or (insert name of rubbish player who came from Equador with Delgado). Oh I see, the new Zidane (short version). That's alright then. C'mon Romain.
  18. Absolutely. The train to fratton leaves at ten past three. Off you ****.
  19. Maybe it's just me, but I'm sort of assuming that we're going to have to win 3-2. A thirty yard thunderbolt from Jermaine and a mazy dribble and curler into the far corner from Fatty. Just as well Lallana's gonna get a hat-trick.
  20. My vote would go to Morgan Schneiderlin for leading a young team back to the Premiership at the end of the 2009-10 season. Now there was an inspired signing...
  21. Can't wait.... Text to mates on Monday -- 'we've just signed the new zidane'. Why let the facts get in the way of a good line?! Exciting times... COYR
  22. That was a great day at the Lane, wasn't it? Beattie I think in the first minute and it just got better. The 'We want Hoddle out say we want Hoddle out' chant at the end was bleedin' deafening. Bye Glenn.
  23. There will be hysterical pessimism on here until we win our first game. Then there will be hysterical optimism. That's football, innit? I'm still expecting a decent season, and mid table-ish finish. IF that happens, and we don't sell half the youngsters next summer, I think we can push for the playoffs next season. Should be fun whatever. COYS
