Bournemouth being in Division 2 with Steve Fletcher up front.

Signed from Forest in 2003 with high hopes, Eng U21 capatin and highly rated. Played 82 times and scored 3 goals. Best Attribute: Clapping fans after the game Worst Attribute: Finishing My verdict: One of the most disappointing signings of the last 20 years. When we got him it was a bit of a coup for Saints, but he was essentially rubbish. After Saints his career totally flopped. He is now on Sky and doing ok. Well trained I suppose from his Saints radio show days with James Beattie which incidentally were the highlight of Rupert Lowe's tenure. At times I see similarities (personality wise) between Prutton and Hojbjerg who can also be too emotional on the pitch leading to bad decision making and giving the ball away a lot, albeit PEH far better technically. What did you make of him?

If we let Redmond and Hojbjerg's contracts run for nearly another year before worryig about them then I can almost guarentee that they won't sign a new one and we would be forced to sell next summer for a knockdown fee to avoid them leaving for free. 3 years through a 5 year deal is absolutely the right time to extend, these are good players who would be wanted elsewhere and as much as anything it preserves their value. If they aren't going to extend then this summer is the best time to sell them, as per our business model. Its one thing signing Obafemi or Valery, will be interesting to see if we can persuade any more established quality players that Saints is the right club for them for a couple more years. Hasenhuttl is our only real selling point at the moment.

No brainer. Really impressive player and seems a good character.

Boufal is not a quick, direct player. Someone like Lookman (that type of profile) suits RH game far more. Boufal will come back because Celta won't want to sign him, which is telling in itself. I expect he will be loaned out again.
-
Game of opinions but those who are gagging for the return of Boufal are wrong IMO. Best we can do is get £10m for him and move on woth players who actually suit the PL and RH style. Boufal is just a mote skillful Elyounoussi. He isn't what RH wants. No real pace, not the best off the ball.

This is in part why players feel they need to move to big clubs to get international recognition. The likea of Barkley and RLC have done next to nothing this season, and certainly have no consistency. Yet they play for Chelsea. On the flip slide (and if it were the same for everyone which it clearly isn't) I like that it takes more than 6 or 7 good games to get in the squad. You should have to show consistent high levels. Personally feel Redmond unlucky not to be in the shake up but his position arguably has England's outstanding players.

Some absolute drivel on this thread. Maybe is just doing what everyone else does without suspicion and moving to a different property in the place that he lives? One that is better or suits his lifestyle more. He is from the area and will probably always have a house here regardless of where he plays football. I assume he had this house for a while before being a Saints player, so not sure its anythig apart from a personal matter of where to live. Also, I have read nothing to suggest that we won't sign him permanently. I have read loads that suggests that is a formality including annoucements from both Saints and Liverpool. If 16m gets you dross like Hoedt, Carillo and Elyounoussi then I don't think the Ings fee is overly ridiculous.

And Xhaka is a far better player than Pogba.
-
Austin is finished at PL level and I doubt would be overly great in the Championship - his fitness is poor. Long is the same as ever - poor but will run. Damning for Gallagher that he still isn't an option ahead of these two. Hopefully we can get rid of all 3 in the summer.

Looks like it's time for the "relegation price 2019" thread.
Dusic replied to tisspahars's topic in The Saints
They have had two years in the PL yet never really been in any true danger of relegation despite being in the bottom 3rd all the time. They aren't safe, but are doing ok and also have a game in hand, albeit vs Chelsea. I think they will be fine and given Cardiff's fixtures I think Brighton being relegated would need them to not win any of their remaining games - which is unlikely. -
I was at Fulham away where Ausyin tossed in the least committed performance I have ever seen from a pro at Saints. By contrast, Lemina was excellent and gave everything, despite how crap the situation was. Pre RH, all of our best performances under MP and MH were when Lemina was on form.
-
Do you think overall that Wilson's recruitment has been successful?
-
He clearly had an operation, that is 100%. So beyond that I guess Saints and Lemina have no obligation to explain exactly what that operation was for. I don't understand the conspiracy theories. He played around Christmas after RH said he had struggled with his stomach muscle in training. It clearly showed in the games, as he was subbed at HT in a couple. They gave him rest which didn't improve it, so he had an operation and is now rehabbing from that.
-
Somewhat baffling. We go into a huge summer recruitment wise, regardless of what division we are in, with the same person who has under performed massively on recruiting players for the past three years. An odd one, and no sign of these new roles Krueger referred to in his latest round of interviews.
-
Easiest team selection of the season for us, assuming Ings and Lemina not back. Gives them 3 weeks to get back in contention for the rest of the season.
-
It was the right time to let him move on, but we replaced him terribly. Overall I really liked Tadic at Saints. Yes he was inconsistent but he was also extremely creative and a key part of the best Saints finish of my lifetime. Seems like a good guy as well with a great attitude. Pleased his move has worked out.

It doesn't have to be an expensive contract, just a longer one. Players haven't ended up leaving because they have signed a new contract, they would have left anyway. Longer contracts = bigger fees. Its a no brainer for someone like Valery who is probably on a tiny deal for a player who is now a PL regular. Doubling his wages would still make him earning far, far less than most of our squad.
-
So because of Forster we shouldn't try to get promising young players to sign longer contracts? Glad you aren't in charge!
-
Get him signed on a long contract. Has earned a pay rise for sure.
-
Wonder if Valery's emergence will impact on future interest in Maehle? Obviously we will need another RB, but with Valery developing so well I see him as a starter next season, and Maehle would be arriving as a first choice you would think. Would having both cause one to stop developing?
-
Agree. Under Hasenhuttl we have been a largely decent side, unfortunately we chose to have a dip during the msot key run of all, but we have had the chance to take points in every single game under him aside from Arsenal away. There has been a big improvement. The reason we are where we are is almost entirely due to a dreadful summer (and January) window and Hughes not giving the team any structure. I havent checked, but imagine since RH came in we are probably not even in the bottom 6 for results during that time - a good achievement.
-
Obviously we all knew, but he is levels above Targett and should start every game until the end of the season. In the summer we should try to get him to sign a new contract and refocus under a good Manager. Targett will never be on the same level as RB - which is no slight, just a fact.
-
Usually these things are subjective but this year if anyone doesn't say Redmond then they are actually wrong. The only people remotely close would be Bednarek but he has only played half the season (not his fault) and Hojbjerg but he has missed too many games through stupid suspensions at key times. We would be already relegated without Redmond. He has been consistently good, even more impressive as an attacker in a poor side and given what happened last year.
-
He is 20, what do you expect???
