It's worth taking the opportunity to make the point that ITV have completely lost their fu cking minds. Two hours primetime.

The main factor is this forum is infected with snidey saps who've decided our gigantic club can sneer at our second major cup final in 40 odd years and an unprecedented fourth top 8 finish as some kind of failure. I've enjoyed the season. Inter was brilliant, Wembley and the road there was brilliant. And because I am not a child, I can view this season as being, in the round and on planet earth, as a successful one. My recommendation to you is get used it - you've got 30 odd years or more of this to get used to. Suck it the fu ck up.

2014: finished eighth. Greatest achievement in Southampton Football Club history with our finest ever side of wonder players who were on a one-way ticket to Champions League glory before Les Reed callously dismantled it. Eighth though. Brilliant. Amazing. 2017: eighth place is sh it and the start of our slippery slope of steep decline and inevitable relegationwith our turgid hopeless team of deadbeats. Dreadful. Eighth though. Fu cking useless.

And Stoke. And Palace. But no doubt we won't make it to mid June before the forum intelligentsia start openly weeping about how, yet again, those three clubs are going to leave us behind. Just like last June. And the one before that. Shaqiri. They signed Shaqiri etc etc etc.

Neither of those seem remotely plausible appointments for us. This time last year I was stupid enough to think there was a small chance we might get Emery but not now. It will be someone of a similar status to Puel or Poch or Koeman (middling at European elite level), those two are already a class above.

You'd think Jose will rest a few and they gave absolutely nothing to play for. I think we can take this game by the throat.

For God's sake. You're mixing up two completely different things. 1. We were never, ever, ever going to let Koeman go into the last year of his contract. That was obvious to anyone with a brain, and it was obvious before he was linked with any other club. That's why we offered him an extension with the highest wage we've ever paid any manager. Our club are shrewd enough to not let a manager dictate to us his departure and be burdened with a year of speculation about the future of our manager. We were never ever going to let him run his contract down. 2. As soon as Everton came in with big money he was off. More money, bigger club, what's not to love. The idea he would have stayed and seen out his contract is a lovely little bullish it angle that manages to portray the man who walked out on a contract for big old bucks as a broken hearted helpless victim of howwible old bully boy Les. He made me leave the job of my dweams he did. And the saps who know a steward who knows someone pass this "inside info" around and fu cking lap it up. Wise up.
