  1. Green shoots, my ringpiece. The economy is still as flat as a witches tit and will be for some time.
  2. Brilliant. Keep it up you two, top stuff.
  3. I'm not sure that one lasted! Lost contact with them when it turned sour. They may have got it back on after that, but I wouldn't know.
  4. Whatever happened to Mao Cap? One of the best posters from yesteryear. I liked Buzzin Orn too but don't keep up with the forum too often so they may have reincarnated themselves. Minty doesn't post much but when he does he's always very good. Ponty was a good poster too. Fartpants was a laugh as was Sweet Potato and Durleyfos, when the lounge forum was good fun.
  5. I can't help but feel this is overstating it somewhat. "Mindless goons"? "Bullying". Such inflammatory language BS. I'm sure pap is able to defend himself and is not shy to use snide language and terminology in the process when he's biting back. Fair enough, it's an anonymous football forum after all. But he's opened himself right up with his conspiracy theory stance and is getting shown up for it. That doesn't mean he's being bullied. Just shown up as a bit of a loon. I suggest Hypo, Delldays, Alpine, et al are being "rounded upon" more, but i suppose that's OK because the general consensus is that they are "goons"? Would I be right in making that assumption? As you say, I'm sure pap's skin is thick enough to not worry about some trivial baiting on a football forum. But Verbal and the others are not bullying. Not in my opinion anyway.
  6. No chance. We'd need to score 20+ more goals at home and concede around 20 fewer goals away from home. Reckon we can get into the top 10 though, which would be a terrific result.
  7. But that's not the point. The point is, the indivduals responsible for the site will be potentially liable should a trespasser inujure themselves and the site cannot demonstrate it has made every effort to make the site safe for those trespassers. Of course it is an exercise is reasonableness, but there are many instances when work in progress will be inherently dangerous if used as a playground. Note i say potentially as each case is different, but the fact is liability does not stop just because someone jumps over a hoarding when they shouldn't. It's not a simple as Bazza suggests.
  8. HSE regulations (H&SAW Act) provides a legal responsibility for Contractors staff to ensure construction sites are safe places to be. This covers the potential for prosecution under criminal law and this is directed at individuals (site managers, business owners). The Occupiers Liability Act of 1957 (i think) was extended in '84 (again, i think) to cover a duty of care owed to trespassers. Any case brought under it would have to be a civil case however. As I said in my post, the chances of a successful civil action in this instance would be very difficult, but you appear to be taking issue with the legal position, which is very clear. If a site presents an opportunity for a trespasser to injury themselves and they do just that, then the site team and directors will face the possibility of prosecution by the HSE and a civil case from the injured party.
  9. Secret Site Agent isn't talking crap. Building Contractors and/or Developers owe a duty of care to trespassers (believe it or not) especially when there are what is termed "attractive nuisances" or items likely to stir the desire for some scamp to trespass on a site and have a play. In this case, assuming the nutter had fallen and died, there would have been difficulty in proving the site team did not do everything to provide protection against this extreme event. But say a few nippers scaled a perfectly reasonable site hoarding for a play and a half built wall fell on them, then there is an obligation for the site team to provide protection against that occurance. Whatever the outcome, I suspect the poor old site team here will have been hauled over the coals and i suspect Warings are rigging up CCTV cameras, audible alarms and permanent security guards as i type this.
  10. More chance of geting a w@nk off the pope than proving this was a conspiracy. The thread reminds me of the "defend the indefensible" section on Fighting Talk. And Verbal is right, shocking lack of respect to the victims in the blind pursuit to be Fox Mulder MkII.
  11. I would be suprised if Cortese isn't attracting investors or raising finance to buy the club either individually (unlikely) or as part of a consortium he is key to (probably more likely). This would cause friction with the Liebherr's, so he's trying to force their hand a little with by using the press. It would be suprising for the Liebherr's to sell out to others waiting in the wings and cast aside Cortese mercilessly after the job he's done. Oh, hang on, hasn't that happened recently with someone else? No worries then, the new man / owners will do a better job.
  12. Should leave it to the grown ups, especially if your comments are indicative of the profession. Hopefully you have the sense to keep moronic self opinion (glad she's dead, etc, etc) out of the classroom.
  13. That's exactly what happened and the "cheap" state subsidised coal from Poland and Germany that was being banked on strangely increased in price when we had no effective mining industry left. Seriously misguided policy that probably started out as a bit of joined up thinking, but ended up being a vendetta against a militant union that was unwilling to embrace any concept that it was outdated and in need of modernisation. But i disagree with some comments on the housing stock. Local councils had, up to the late 70's, shown a shockingly brilliant ability to create the most awful estates and high rise "cheap" accommodation blocks that led to both disasterous collapse at the time (Ronan Point) and serious social issues around these estates with subsequent generations. If they had continued to provide the majority of the housing stock in this country alongside an autoratic planning strategy, inefficient ability to build and reluctance to progress, it is difficult to see that there would have been any benefit to the country as a whole. Strangely enough the Thatcher Conservatives did try to inject some much needed redevelopment in some notoriously deprived areas after the early 80's riots (via UDC's), but this was led via London and with little regard to the needs or local population, so generally failed, except for, it can be argued, the Docklands.
  14. To say she is still reponsible for any destruction of the "fabric of society" is imho, plain silly. 23 years have passed since she was in Office last and Britain has moved on a great deal and a notable number of decision makers have left their mark on the social structure of the country since. To me it appears to be a tired old argument, rolled out whenever Thatcher is mentioned. Quite incomprehensible that some posters can take delight in the death of anyone, really. Shocking.
  15. Can the mods introduce a junior section so the prepubescents who actually care what any pundit says can post their dummy spitting drivel and keep it away from the main forum? It's quite boring seeing a lawrenson thread at least once a week with the same old predictable pony posted up.
  16. They all hate us. They all hate us with a passion. All the pundits and all the commentators and all the football people on TV hate us, especially those who used to play for us and never mention us every time they are on TV. You know, I think i saw Lawro hiding in my shed with a "I H8 Saints" T shirt on last weekend and I'm convinced I saw Andy Townsend, sorry, Bellend (ha ha! cool, hey guys! Bellend hey!) in West Quay giving the Saints Store the middle finger once. Absolutely convinced it was him. F u c king slags. Dogs, the lot of them. Hate them all, cos they hate us.
  17. Wouldn't likeit. I would be a more miserable ***t than usual. 50 quid isn't very much, but as some say, it's not supposed to be a "lifestyle choice". Love to see IDS living on it. Not for a week though, but for 3 months minimum.
  18. A "Northern" Roller actually!! Rover 75 estate about 6 years ago!!
  19. Mortgage Guarantees for 1st timers have been announced, so (if it works) you could probably save some of your 50k to tart up a place if it needs it. Housebuilders are offering some reasonable deals for 1st time buyers of newly built homes at the moment. If you do get a place that needs work, don't let it drift. It will never get done. Don't be put off by the content of a survey (unless you go for a full structural survey) - they aren't worth a w@nk really. Money for old rope to tick a box for the mortgage company. Try and get as good a deal as you can. Sounds easy but when the little woman sees a place she likes she'll pressure you into agreeing to anything without conditions. Make sure you don't lose sight of your goals. Shop around for the best mortgage or use an independent advisor. Generally the few mutuals left will offer the best deals as they are less likely to sell you something inappropriate. Keep some moolah back to furnish if you need too. A lick of paint can do wonders for the appearance of a place. Don't worry about water pressure - you can always put a shower pump in. Good advise about the boiler though.
  20. Oh Papoir! You smear me with accusations of a bad attitude towards fat people. But this is not the case. Fat people are my friends. Not many admittedly and not really in public, but I do count a calorifically challenged chap as one of my closest friends. And if i'm honest i could do with shedding a few pounds myself, although i'm nowhere near the "taking up two seats" category yet. Maybe i should be on that weight loss blog thread now? How much did you used to weight then papage? I'm intrigued.... And timmy, i didn't mean to "diss" Hassocks. I should have put a wink next to my comments. My only experience of Hassocks is when the clutch went on the Roller as i was about to drive through the place, so I might be jaundiced in my view.
  21. But timmy, the question is whether one has to put up with fatties paying the same as the rest of us for a flight? Judging by the obvious problem this causes as indicated by the posts on this thread, I thought a simple suggestion of recommending business class to be an appropriate answer for getting more room. I didn't need you getting all right-on with me in your answer and indulging in a little self congratulation by saying how many pennies you manage to put in the teddy bear after a long flight. Crikey! But well done you! Although I would have thought that with all that money you can afford somewhere a bit nicer than Hassocks?
  22. I guess it's only a problem for those who cannot afford business class, but then again, you get what you pay for.
  23. March 30 Chelsea (H) Draw April 6: Reading (A) Loss April 13: West Ham (H) Draw April 20: Swansea (A) Win April 27: West Brom (H) Win May 4: Tottenham (A) Loss May 12: Sunderland (A) Win May 19: Stoke (H) Win Can see Swansea and West Brom settling for mid table and us getting a decent win against both. The Swans already have their passage to Europe and they'll have one eye on the Costa Brava when we play them. Anticipate some unsettling transfer spec for both teams too. Sunderland are quite poor and Stoke should be a day out in the sun. Battling draw's against Chelski & Hammers with only Reading & Spurs turning us over at their place. Probably optimistic, but hey-ho I had a bet on 3-1 on saturday with Morgan first goal at 200/1. So currently I'm stupidly over confident on my ability to predict!
  24. Who knows? A bit like asking yourself if you'd have got bit more **** with your ex if you'd stayed with her. Reckon NA had a good grasp on how to not get beat when he was cut loose; he'd learned the lessons of the early season quickly. But for the purposes of comparison I think we would have been slightly better off under NA.
