  1. Don't forget to teach them a few songs..."Pompey going bust with no money in the bank, money in the bank, money in the bank" and "We're all standing on a future block of flats, future block of flats..." As they used to say on the old broadside ballads - 'to a well known air' [Yellow Submarine]
  2. Poor them, after their struggle to get there from the Wessex and Southern Premier....
  3. er.. 2-0 up :-)
  4. As you say, each to their own. Most of the apps I want are there (Italian train times, London Tube, English dictionary with sound, British Airways, meteo, maps, notes, recorder, skype, Tom and Jerry!!, TuneIn Radio etc. I couldn't give a stuff about Facebook or Twitter. Tapatalk is available although I haven't used it. Worth a look, I'd say.
  5. Oh, alright, I was feeling mellow at the time. I'm now up, ready with another cup of tea for my morning chortle (since they won't allow s******).
  6. :-) But to be honest, I think Waterside saint's response is more appropriate! :-)
  7. I'm just unwinding with a cup of tea after getting in at 4 in the morning. Unfortunately I hadn't switched the 'puter off, so I've just had bit of a splutter...
  8. Just had a quite scan, and this thread takes me back. Back to the playground, where the big boys would tend to hang around in groups and indulge in their bullying. Often low level, but still bullying, and with their "hur, hur, hur, only joking Miss". Heavy, snide and sarcastic and completely unamusing humour which only the in-group found funny. They always picked on someone they saw as a bit different, it didn't matter what the difference was. Some people here don't seem to have changed much.
  9. I'm all for fairness, but wouldn't that be the first time #factlessallen had shown any humour or awareness? Compared with on here where all post are humorous and tongue in cheek....
  10. If you really had a bottle of 2009 Barolo you're really drinking it too young, it's not long been released and will really benefit from a few years in a cellar (or maybe under your stairs...).
  11. Better not. I don't want to risk a haunting, but you get all sorts in women's football. ;-)
  12. I mainly drink Italian wines naturally, but recall some St. Hallett Old Block Shiraz which was pretty good. There's some increasingly good Sicilian Shiraz (Syrahs) now too. I think the Oz one was from Waitrose, and they're a good bet if you want slightly more interesting wines and can pay a little more. They keep (or used to) the mark-up per bottle pretty constant so that you get better value if you pay a bit more. St. Jim is right about Yellowtail and the like: confected rubbish, although they do have some fruit for novice drinkers. Chilean and Argentinian reds are also worth investigating: I'd leave Uruguayan Tannat (a grape from the Basque country) for when your palate has developed a bit. In the meantime why not try some more interesting whites? Viognier from France, for one. Don't bother with cheap Italian whites, but if you want to try some, Lugana is the only one from Trebbiano grapes that I'd recommend (Zenato from waitrose, I recall). Only buy decent Soave from the hills (Pieropan springs to mind) and the Alto-Adige and Friuli whites can be really good; anything by Jermann for example (wish I could afford Vintage Tunina.) It's discussions like these that are the only time I wish I had a bit more money than is common with English language teachers.. Anyway, back to my glass of Piemontese Gavi and digesting my bream.
  13. Poor old Bearsy, I shall miss him. I quite laughed at his version of 50 Shades, in spite of myself, 'coz it was a bit sexist.. It was only quite late in life that I discovered what gay Bears were, so I presume he was talking about his muscles and hairiness. Not my scene at all, although I've known quite a few hairy women...
  14. Has anyone ever wondered how productive Trousers is at his job?? ;-)
  15. Haven't the Conference got strict financial regulations? Pay HMRC and players on time when they're due or you're out... Perhaps the Wessex League are more forgiving..
  16. A house in multiple occupancy? An HMO, report to the council and H&S. Whilst they're at it you could probably point out that their place of work is also not up to normal hygiene, construction and fire standards..
  17. Go on holiday to a wine-producing country and go to a wine bar which sells by the glass; that way you'll get to try a wider range and find something you might like. Sounds like you've been drinking some quite tannic reds which often benefit from being drunk with food, or paying a bit more so that you actually get a bit of fruit and not just astringency. Try a lightly chilled Barbera Vivace or even a _dry_ Lambrusco (secco) for starters. The fact that you like dry whites like Muscadet suggests that there are red wines you will like, and don't write off all sweet wines. The best of the dessert wines have a balancing acidity which makes them really moreish. Don't worry if you go back to old favourites if that's what you prefer, but exploring and trying new wines _IS_ fun..
  18. Your statement made me go and have a look at the link... I see what you mean! I particularly liked this line; sums Harry up: “Harry came every morning at 8am, but he just watched and didn’t take the sessions."
  19. Time for a new image for the thread? It's a good metaphor. Back after a day's teaching or skiing this is the first internetty thing I look at, just to check if it's still simmering away nicely...
  20. Worrying symptoms of living on my own... I've just shouted out loud at my screen... HOW?!
  21. I've got an english teaching exercise: "what's my uncle's job".. Does he work inside/outside Does he work with his hands Does he have a uniform etc...
  22. Must admit I'm not sure what the rules say, but his arms were just slightly back in the position you have them when you're trying to balance yourself. Sometimes I reckon some people on here haven't played football, they're so harsh on the slightest mistake. Nothing went well for us today, although both of our goals were good ones. It was fairly obvious why Shaw went off, and it wasn't because he was playing badly, but he's a 17 year old kid on a booking up against some very experienced and physical opponents (look how he got his booking, for example). So a day to write off, I'm afraid. I thought having our game called off due to snow and being able to watch was going to be a baaad thing. :-(
  23. Funny that, I was shouting something very similar at the screen just now...
  24. Just got back from my team rendezvous for a 12 o'clock kick off as the game was called off due to snow. At least we avoided an hour and a quarter's drive but now I'm worried as I'll be able to watch on-line. Not sure if this is a good thing or not... not feeling that confident.
