Surely that goes against the whole "Southampton way" idea though? Puel brings in players to suit his formation, if it all goes **** he gets fired then the next manager will have to change personel to suit his system ect ect.

It's a lack of goals I'm worried about. Can Austin stay fit? He was here half of last season and managed one solitary goal. Jay Rod - may return to his previous form but you would be brave to bet on it. Redmond - managed only 6 last year. Long - guaranteed to get you between 5 and 10. After flogging our two top scorers I think we should have brought in someone who you know can score in the Prem. Would love to be proved wrong tho.

I expect playing a full Europa League group between Sept and Dec puts a bit more pressure on the squad than a few qualifiers at the end of July - August. Oh and last season we failed at that miserably, getting knocked out by migit land and starting with bad results while we were in the Europa.

This. With the extra commitment of the Europa league we needed an improved squad just to tread water in the league. Our plan this year appears to be hope a couple of perma-injured strikers stay fit and pretend playing in the Europa League doesn't require a bigger squad.

I never said he would sulk, I don't think he would, it's just that is often trotted out as a reason to flog an in contract player. We could turn down his move and he would still do a great job for us which is why we would be completely nuts to sell him for £8mill.

What is the point in selling him for £8million? You can't get **** all for that nowadays, we would have to spend at least double that to get the same quality in. If he wants to go I would rather let him sulk in the reserves for the rest of his time here than take £8mill.

Bit risky relying on Austin and Jay Rod, unless we are playing in an imaginary world where they are not permanently injured.

We badly need a new striker. You can't just replace Pelle and Mane with Redmond and hope to score enough. With the extra Europa games I would add another 2 or 3 players at least.
