  1. Not interested in the top six position if it breaks the bank. Although a few teams have shown over performance with a set of decent players but that's still not enough to break into the top six. Depending on the academy players - are they more like Shaw than Reeves, we're at least four quality players away from any sort of challenge over the next couple of seasons.
  2. This really. An actual cup win as well as an European adventure to a qualification round to the CL in which we would be unseeded - no contest for me.
  3. How the perceived mighty have fallen... Paul Dickov has taken charge of Doncaster Rovers. The club had been searching for a manager since Brian Flynn opted to return to his role as director of football shortly after securing the League One title. The 40-year-old former Scotland international, who has beaten Michael Appleton to the job.
  4. Considering when he has to submit them and he made a profit over the course of the season, that's not bad at all!
  5. I didn't realise he'll be 30 this year, thought he was younger than that. A player released by West Ham is linked with us... Great!
  6. If only the Germans can run our economy!
  7. Nurturing our own talent should be the priority, to get some affinity with the club. Otherwise I think we should have the philosophy of recruiting players with good character and ability, be it from the lower leagues or unfancied foreign leagues so not costing the earth. I don't care for big names, those obvious candidates with PL experience, or cast-offs from the big four first team. A sustainable and growing future rather than the big splash and hope to maintain it. The player's character has got to be spot on - determined to get better, play as a team, try and win each and every match, not those happy with mid-table while picking up a handsome pay cheque.
  8. Hasn't Bale just signed a new £8m a year contract which ends in 2017?
  9. I think both are true Pete, the club want to expand but the original terms will impact on the extent they can.
  10. Interesting article, although missing the most interesting point for me in that why there was such a difference in the vision for Saints between chairman and owner. I just hope that any growth in the club is sustainable and not built on sand like the skates.
  11. What was his 'crime'? I miss the bear and so do my kids! Bring back bearsy.
  12. Well, at least he and the rest don't have to imagine as PFC had done this and more.
  13. He can do Owner, CEO and Manager.
  14. I remember some of that thread, don't have time to read everything but Turks was right in that in his opinion he didn't see Saints finishing in the top ten, nothing to do with couldn't, shouldn't or anything else. Unfortunately, when a few replies miss the point, Turks got understandably arsey!
  15. From a purely football side, doubtful but if its used for other things -to promote other businesses then it can still be useful.
  16. Go for the win, it's only one game, Puncheon should start though.
  17. I wouldn't worry, subtly isn't his strong point.
  18. To indicate the difficulty of advancing up the league these days, below is an extract on an article to see if anyone can knock Man Utd of their perch now Fergie has left, which I think can be extrapolated to the whole league: "Without oligarchs, sheikhs, American billionaires and huge broadcasting deals, the old top flight was far more unpredictable; in Ferguson's first five seasons at Old Trafford 10 different clubs (Everton, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, United, Nottingham Forest, Norwich City, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leeds United) finished in the top four. These days money has a far greater influence on the pecking order. Is it a coincidence that the clubs with the three highest wage bills in the Premier League – United (£162m), City (£202m), Chelsea (£173m) – are all in the top three?" So unless there is the 3 or 4 players that make you sit up and say yes, good quality players in the right areas to upgrade, any advancement will be slow if we are depending on JWP and the other youngsters to take up the huge challenge with our current squad.
  19. Perhaps another youngster... Burnley's England U21 right-back Kieran Trippier
  20. Have they actually signed for next season (starting July 1st) or are they PFC players now?
  21. That's why they are really pushing the fans to buy season tickets while the feel good factor is still there. Generating money is the focus atm. Otherwise, the better calibre free agent will not be available.
  22. I heard he's not fit enough to survive the physical nature of the PL, so will be dead before the season is out.
  23. oops... probably Bert Shelley... Ref! Sub! It looks like your operating system or browser isn't supported by My Player Twin. We're kitted up for: - Internet Explorer 9 and up - Chrome (PC and Mac) version 24 and up - Safari (Mac) version 5.1 and up Bring on one of these big names and they'll make a big impact on the game. If you don't you might not get the result you want.
  24. Thanks Toks, I feel better with your guarantee, as I too don't think he has the right character to be a Saint.
