  1. It's not as simiple as that as there are acceptable deviations to break-even. Besides, if FFP makes that much of an impact on the transfer market - remember the player is a valued asset - the whole market will become deflated so if Bale is worth £40m now but no one can afford to buy at that price under FFP, but only at £20m, Gaston may then be valued at £10m. I agree it will be easier to hold on to them from similar to Europa achieving level clubs, but those in the CL and/or have a significant global brand and income will still be able to pick up players they need. All Saints can do is finid an environment and structure to help keep players (that are wanted) happy to stay for as long as possible, and if forced to sell, sell for the maximum value.
  2. It seems it's fairly easy to add equity, although limited. This was big change from a few years back when I last looked. There are acceptable limits during the monitoring periods assessed. 45m euros for the next two (starting with 13/14 season) then down to 30m for the next three. After that tbd. Don't forget that the break even point with deviation will include the valuation of players but is complicated by the 'fair value' of players and the like (cost of bottle of wine in the hospitality example). So what they are clamping down on is the related party fair value aspect, eg, the sponsorship deals. The interesting (!) bit on equity contributions is from p82: Contributions from equity participants D. and/or related party(ies) 1. Acceptable deviation can exceed EUR 5 million up to the amounts described inArticle 61(2) in a monitoring period only if such excess is entirely covered bycontributions from equity participants and/or related parties.2. Contributions from equity participants are payments for shares through the sharecapital or share premium reserve accounts. That is, investing in equityinstruments in their capacity as shareholder.3. Contributions from a related party include:a) Capital contributions being a contribution by a related party: that is anunconditional gift made to the reporting entity by a related party whichincrease the reporting entity’s equity without any obligation for repayment orto do anything in consideration for receiving them. For example, a waiver ofinter-company or related party debt constitutes a capital contribution, as itresults in an increase in equity; and/orb) Income transactions from a related party: the amount to be considered as acontribution will be no more than an amount equivalent to the differencebetween the actual income in a reporting period and the fair value of thetransaction(s) in a reporting period as already recognised in the calculation ofthe break-even result (see part B(1)(j)). The monies must have beenreceived by the reporting entity, rather than just some form of promise orcommitment from the related party.4. The following types of transaction are not ‘contributions from equity participantsand/or related parties’:i) Positive movement in net assets/liabilities arising from a revaluation;ii) Creation, or increase in the balance, of other reserves where there is no contribution from equity participants; iii) A transaction whereby the reporting entity has a liability in that the entityhas a present obligation to act or perform in a certain way;iv) Contributions from owners in respect of instruments classified as liabilities.
  3. Well if Wenger can say qualifying for the CL is a kind of trophy, then I'll say avoiding relegation is our's this season. We have a squad, lets use it wisely, I'm with trousers on this one.
  4. They would be classed as equity investment in UEFA FFP Rules. They have had quite a number of years to develop the rules, with the help of the clubs of course so there will be other ways around it.

  6. They didn't have to.
  7. Not really, just like Man United would be able to spend more than most in the Premier League as they have the highest income, Saints would be in a similar state in league one. However, in the Championship, promotion would have been more difficult to achieve.
  8. There is much dependency on the academy set up to produce a good crop of youngsters that can easily integrate into the first team. If a few are capable to join at the same time it would help (used to playing together, camaraderie etc) rather than spending big money on transfers. It's then how long can we hold on to them... how many more years could we have had Walcott, Chamberlain and Bale if we had been in the premeir league before they left, and how much larger would the fee be to invest (assuming the owners want to do this)? Happy to be self sufficient to see the rise of good players and see where we can get to in the premier league and the cups. Champions League, I don't think so. BTW, the CL money for finishing third or fourth in the league isn't that great unless the team make it to the league stage, even then, for a new team the media money cut isn't as generous as with the established CL teams.
  9. You will not like this then... http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=ctWS52IA_JY&feature=youtu.be&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DctWS52IA_JY%26feature%3Dyoutu.be
  10. They are in the same position as they were when they went down in 2009, two points above the relegation zone and too good to go down. I suppose Pardew is an advantage over Shearer for Manager though! its going to be a nail biting end to the season that for sure.
  11. You forgot a certain P Withe Bearsy!
  12. Should be back in full training this week so maybe to early for him.
  13. Villa's injury list is rather large: A Westwood N Baker C N'Zogbia G Agbonlahor Thigh Muscle Strain 12th Jan 13 D Bent R Vlaar G Gardner R Dunne S Petro
  14. Almost. You need building regs approval for the plans. The plans can be done by you or an architect and most be a decent standard... Not back of a fag packet stuff! You'll also need the plans submitted to the council in case anyone objects so best to go round to the neighbours first if any are adversely impacted.
  15. Its an odd one, that's for sure but they haven't got the right mix of players or the right manager(s) in place.
  16. Just looked at the table on the beeb where they show the recent form. The last 10 games Saints have gained 14 points, only 2 loses and 10 goals conceded whereas the first 10 gained 4 points with 8 loses and 28 goals conceded. It's a question of how much is down to getting better while in the Premier League than against easier opposition. Villa, Everton and United the next three will tells us more.
  17. Onwards and upwards!
  18. I had that feeling against Stoke, 3-1 before going into see Jack Reacher, feeling good and 3-3 afterwards feeling deflated although reading the reactions and report back to happy. I will be chuffed with the draw today.
  19. Exactly. Besides, the players we get will depend on if and how much the agent is willing to lower their fee.
  20. The boos must have been belted out with some vehemency from the mighty 12k then.
  21. I thought they were skint.
  22. The bit in bold is wrong, you are introducing another team. Add a point to the 18th team and they stay 18th in a league of 20 teams. PS I don't know who Barney is.
  23. If you add a point to the team who were 18th, would they still be 18th in the table (out of 20 teams - you cannot introduce another team).Does that help?
  24. find yourself that bin.
  25. James McCarthy, a young, creative and confident midfielder from Wigan. Would put a dent in their survival hopes as he's been playing well for them the past couple of seasons. It would also leave some money for a CB.
