very glad I decided to stay away for this one.....sounds dreadful......again

7th on chances, 20th on conversion for us last year (as has been widely discussed) - with a decent striking partnership our conversion might have been much higher. He has, in vardy and mahrez, exactly what we missed last year so it will interesting to see how they do once his philosophy is fully in place. He was way too defensive last season but it was his first prem job so he will have reflected on that and thought about how to do things differently. As much as the majority felt he should go (me included), it would have been interesting to see how his second season worked out with a full transfer window. I reckon the board wobbled when they saw ST renewals were low along with players moaning and bottled it rather than sticking with Clod (which they were probably planning on doing).

Sky need to generate interest so they call it a south coast derby, it's just a bit of marketing. We know it isn't a derby but I do think recent history gives it a bit of edge. I wonder if they would market norwich vs sunderland as the east coast derby?
-
The players seem to give even less of a sh1t than they did last season - and that's some achievement. I think we've seen enough and shouldn't wait until it's too late like we did with wigley.

VVD has shown his true colours - an arrogant, disrespectful pr1ck. With his current attitude he offers us less than Stephens or Hoedt, so drop him, sell him to the scallys in Jan for 60m and let them take the rest of the season to get him match fit. Meanwhile we can buy a decent striker and a creative midfielder in addition to, hopefully, a new manager who has half a clue about managing in the toughest league in the world. Our hubris means we drop a little further down the table every season, convinced of a policy that was constructed five years ago whilst all about us recognise the game has changed with the enormous increases in income.
-
so ten minutes in and we look as threatening as ever
-
a number of teams demonstrating that without a decent striker, you will struggle - us and everton best examples of a pretty good defence/midfield but totally lacking in attack. gloss seems to be coming of klippity klop too
-
ironic that the first season in years where we haven't sold loads of our top players and we end up being cack
-
MP ran out of ideas weeks ago.....remember a couple of seasons ago when tadic and long got about 20 goals between them.....we couldn't score under puel....we can't score or defend with this guy
-
regardless of what you think of palmer, and he does seem to be a bitter tw4t, i think he's right that MLT was lazy and unambitious
-
must be more to this than just the results mp will be sitting a little more uncomfortably now

Saints 0 Watford 2 - Match & Meltdown
Supersubpuckett replied to Secret Site Agent's topic in The Saints
My son and I are ST holders, missed a few games and haven't seen us score at home since we beat boro in early December last year! We look utterly devoid of belief and any sense of being a team. Hoedt must wonder wtf he's walked into. Forster looks petrified Our defence seems sound Midfield is extremely average - Redmond and Boufal are dreadful Forwards - hard to say as they get such poor service. Gabbi probably bored. Austin looks like he'd struggle in a dads v lads game Manager? Too early but everyone knows watford are a physical team so why put those two useless flakey pussies in Boufal and Redmond on but leave lemina off. Today we needed a strong core with a bit of bite up front. I don't think he knows what his best 11 is or what formation is best. It's going to be a tough season......again. -
9th and a good run in both cups it's going to be a tough season with other sides upgrading, however we look like going into this with a more positive manager, a proper striker and a stronger defence (i.e. full season of VVD with an improved Jack Stephens, a more confident Maya and the new boy).
-
he was a special talent, especially for 3 or 4 seasons in the 90s, but the flipside of all that magic were games where he drifted and it was like were playing with 10 men. It is a shame he wasn't more dedicated in his fitness and physical strength - he's a big guy who could have truly dominated midfield and would have broken into the england side as a regular if he showed more commitment to this side of his game. he was certainly a great player but fell along way short of fulfilling his potential.
-
if done properly the captain, like any other leader in any other team situation, should be the one who lives and breaths the ethos of the club and is an extension of the manager. They will have strong 121 relationships with the rest of the squad and puts theirs and the teams needs ahead of their own. They lead by example, earn respect and ultimately in the heat of battle its the person the rest of the team will do anything for. VVD has proven himself not be the right person. Romeu maybe but I would say JWP is emerging as a strong candidate. The captain should certainly not be decided based on the best player.
-
maybe puel wasn't the le problem after all - he just had a very average squad competing against continually improving opposition
-
looks like they're playing in a prison
-
it won't work with austin and gabbi up front. need to put tadic or boufal up there to play around one of them and replace the other with another midfielder. we desperately need someone in midfield who can win the ball, break down oppo play and set up attacks - we seem to have players who do one of the other.

Are we? Ahead of Brighton, Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Swansea?

Saints Transfers Thread - Deadline Day
Supersubpuckett replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
is your mate Pep or a member of the board? -
Our half-witted fans don't know how lucky they are
Supersubpuckett replied to mcbendy's topic in The Saints
God forbid anyone should have an opinion that is different to the OP and want the club to achieve a little more than simply being recognised as 'well run'. I quite enjoy the diversity of views, no matter how extreme or mis-guided some might seem - makes life interesting. -
He's done well to fake it in a team that's finished in the top 8 for the last four seasons.....perhaps when he's retired we'll look back at him as one of those unsung hero types.
