Agree with this. There's at least one match thread where I've tracked Tall Paul's runs. The common thing about all of them is that no one comes close to getting the ball to him. Near post, in the centre, far post, getting behind defenders. All showed good movement, and all let down by the lack of service. All end with him trotting back to his starting position. It's a shame that his style of play doesn't fit what Martin would like. He's not another Che Adams. He might be able to adapt to some of it. Perhaps Martin's system can accommodate some of his style. But it's not an easy fit.

In one possible universe, he has an Achilles injury. In another, it's a long term hamstring injury. Mathematicians and Quantum Physicists are still looking for a universe in which he plays.

Burns night has blokes in skirts, sorry kilts, so ticks a lot of progressive boxes, hence the extra coverage. 🙂 -
No wait...that's full English... #confusedatbreakfast

Catering and radio have been the keys to our success since the Lowe days. Good to see the club not losing sight of the infrastructure, distracted by more ephemeral things on the pitch.

When I was typing "Mara" I thought that would be one to get a comment. With him, it's a bit of both for me. I have seen him take up decent centre forward positions. I have seen him improve when asked to take wider roles. I've even seen him trying to take on a few Che-like responsibilities. And he has shown glimpses of not getting putmuscled so easily too. None of these are across lots of games and none sufficient where he's someone you'd be delighted to see him start. He wants to be a certain place to be on the end of things. We want him to drop deep, move across the front 3, support and finish, with loads of anticipation and understanding of the team's movement. It's just not him, really. And that's going to have frustrations from players and coaches. We've seen him just drift right put of games, and our system struggle when he's in it.

Gold for Khelif A lot of the reports don't stray far from the controversy. So, here's the Sky Sports reporter who, when getting drawn on it, prefers to focus on the performance and achievement, having a grown up talk about the politics and eligibility at the end.

On one of the two sentenced, I'm fairly sure it said it was liked by 6 people, but the viewers it was made available to and potential impact of that were part of the judgement and sentencing. As society uses social media to provide platforms to capture any passing thought, with not much filtering, there must be a lot of people looking over their shoulders at some dodgy content. Then there's the wider picture of governments looking to regulate social media and control content. This is also part of their campaign to justify that control. Breaking news: 1000s of people posting that they'd not mind if their boss fell off a cliff, after a rubbish day, sentenced for inciting elaborate seaside murders.

I like Alcaraz, what he can offer, and was looking forward to seeing that develop. But a lot of his strengths don't fit with the system we've seen, and his all round game drops him down the pecking order in that same system. I get the feeling all sides are aware of it. It must be frustrating for him. Much like I think Tall Paul will be more than fine in another set up. If we can use the funds to strengthen the team now, then I'd be fine with that, rather than not have the funds, but have a squad player who doesn't fit the team. It's decisions like this that also bolt us onto Martin's style. When/If we move on the likes of Alcaraz, Sule, Tall Paul and even Mara we're committing to a certain approach. All have their strengths/ potential. We're just choosing a different approach.

I heard what I took to be the sentencing on the radio. It stood out as I'd not heard such a lot of time being spent reading out such a level of detail. Like a few other things this week, the sentencing statement combined a number of things. The individual was sentenced for inviting an attack on a hotel. That started and ended the statement. The bulk of it, and therefore the most air time, was spent covering a variety of views I've heard expressed in a lot of other areas. It's another odd feeling, not agreeing with lot of the views of the person, but watching those views being deliberately used as a warning to others, that if they share them, they will also be considered to hold the more extreme end of those views. While there's a logic to reporting that way from government through the Beeb, it can also have a lot of negative outcomes too.

I've only caught a few minutes of the OPs video link. Within that there were some worrying claims. The link below is for the judgement, and offers a counter to some of those claims. Quite easy to jump to relevant bits Again, I've only caught a small part, but it offers the balance of a judge. https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Hijazi-v-Yaxley-Lennon-judgment-220721.pdf -
Up for debate, but I think we're weaker than the team that got 4th but overall stronger than the disjointed mess that got relegated. We're still to replace Stu, Fraser and Brooks and get proper DM cover from last season. But (despite losing out Bednarek and Stephens at the time) we are better defensively and about the same elsewhere than the side that went down. Arguably, if we play 5-3-2, we need a Fraser and Brooks replacement less. Clearly, it's a squad needing some strengthening. But it's also one that needs to lose a few players as well. Hopefully one will facilitate the other. And we end up with a more cohesive group, with enough to keep us up.

May I refer you to every couple of weeks for years? Lazarus just came back the once, and has nothing on SOG. Hopefully, if I just mention the load of link only posts from the same sources, that won't be what we're subjected to. I felt the same as some narratives were drawing in those with anti-immigration views (does this extend to those concerned about control of it) and links to control of football crowds. With the facial recognition hints and use anti-terror legislation coming up, it does have that authoritarian feel to it. At the same time, stopping the extremists and rioters is supported.
-
What? The pun of the day award isn't entertainment of the highest order?
-
Has SOG really just faked a racially motivated incident, in the middle of what's been going on in the last week?! Really? And is somehow blaming his wife for the misinformation? I seem to recall his wife being brought into another bit of nonsense recently. Not to mention that whole dragging perpetrators to court stuff from a while ago. Then the possibly fictitious third party is blamed, because it doesn't tie up with events that actually happened in the area? The "Poster most likely to incite racial hatred" award to go along with his " Poster most likely to make racial slurs" and "Poster most likely to support a heirarchy of racism" award?

Russ has indicated that deals were at various stages. There were hints that we might need to shift people out first. This, days after the CoT has a quiet spell, waiting for the same things. Coincidence?

Yeah, I thought that was too long a distance for him to be racing back from one of our own corners. 🙂

Tonight's Headlines: Rock sentenced to 3 years hard labour...breaking rocks. Now tonight's film: Presley classic, Jailhouse Rock Breaking News: Rock appeals. Claims it wasn't far right, that's just the direction it was thrown in. Thread News: Scientists fear SOGs hole digging will reach the Earth's core, sending molten material across the country.

This...with 1000 "this" following it up. I'm now thinking the people who immediately look to shut down the utter lack of self awareness, are just the rest of us, after a few years more of exposure to it.

I barely got the chance to type "it was brunch," before another page and a half of the "Be nice to SOG. He's bound to hit oil, digging that hole" thread appeared. Just seen Sheaf's post, and it will probably be a matter of time before they are shifted. Like Whelk, I know who certainly isn't a victim. We had a near day or so of some heated, but interesting chat. Derailed again. I'm not comfortable with all those protesting immigration being tied into the same sentences as racists or even far right. Linking it directly to football fans brings up old narratives too, and is also uncomfortable reading. With both governments promising and utterly failing to control immigration (to limits they set themselves), shutting down criticism by starting to connect anyone with views with the rioters is not helpful. It plays into the narratives of those groups, alienates others, and increases the frustration of those who feel voiceless, and unsupported by any party they vote for. That, in turn, leads to support of parties that will speak for them. I was going to say or at least pretend to speak for them. But that would apply to all of them. A peek to the continent shoes the rise of such parties.
