Isn't the bottom line that the players are w4nkers and they're also generally not very good.

Rate our players. Good, competent or poor?
Saint Garrett replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
Thing is some are probably only struggling because they're in a poor side. I look at Redmond, Ings, Romeu, Hojbjerg, Bertrand, Cedric, McCarthy, and they're all been decent and probably are decent enough at this level, but right now they have such a poor defence, and players out of position, and tactically seem a bit all over the place, they are looking **** poor. And also some of them have downed tools, i.e. Cedric. You stick Hojbjerg in alongside Wanyama in that Koeman side, and he'd look class, but too many borderline average players in the squad, and we're struggling massively. -
Not even sure how many of our players are good enough for the Championship and that would stay A core of the below with some additional players (not sure how we'd fund them?) Forster Valery Stephens Bednarek Vokins Reed JWP Armstrong Obafemi Adams Long We'd still be f*cked defensively and financially though, unless we can flog Redmond for £30/40m which is highly unlikely. Squad needs ripping up.

It also shows how far they've improved since 2016 - you only need to look at their team that day to see that...bolds are those that are still at the club... J Hart, A Kolarov, E Mangala, N Otamendi, P Zabaleta, S Nasri, F Delph (J Navas, 64), R Sterling, Fernandinho, (M Demichelis, 60), W Bony, K Iheanacho

Probably a fair point at the time...

Has there been no presser for this game?
-
That it?

Nope - ignored all football this weekend after Friday.

Is a "Play Trading Expert" not just a 2019 name for a scout? -
It's pretty difficult trying to pick a team right now. Probably more to do with some of their reactions rather than if they're any good. Would be a big call to stick Vokins in away at City, after just losing 9-0 but we have no-one else, hopefully Cedric is fit? Valery had his worst game for us Friday so would like to drop him too but again - who else? Danso at LWB? Hojbjerg? JWP? I'd go... ----------------------McCarthy Valery - Bednarek - Yoshida - Danso - Cedric? --------------JWP----Romeu---Hojbjerg ---------------------Redmond -----------------------Long-------------------- See no benefit of going to a 4 at the back, but we just have such a limited squad right now. Would actually quite like to stick the same team out and make them make amends, and see if they're up for the fight. But also a load of changes wouldn't be a bad idea. The fact I don't even know what system or players to pick is a massive concern and probably one of the reasons why we can't just get any continuity in our performances.

A centre back who has been and done it would be nice. I don't particularly rate the bloke, but we missed a trick with Cahill in hindsight. We need to - cleverly - throw some money into the squad. But if they're going to back the manager, then they need to do it financially and not just in the telegraph.

Players and staff donate ONE DAYS Wages to Saints Foundation
Saint Garrett replied to Noodles34's topic in The Saints
Should be a weeks wages, but something is better than nothing. -
Yup - an interesting listen for sure. Seems it wasn't just a case of him being injured at the start of the season, which we knew if we're honest
-
Think we have to go with 3 at the back, we're so much better when we play like that as we have another at the back covering one of the inevitable mistakes one of the others makes.
-
Good on him, we all know he is capable as he's done it before, but his confidence was shot at Saints, similarly to that of J-Rod after his injury. Could never get enough game time to lift his confidence. Hopefully he has a great season, he must just be happy to be playing every week.
-
Blimey, there are loads available in the chapel end, wouldn't expect to see attendance at more than 28k tonight.
-
Is he registered? Could he play? Or would we have to wait until January anyway? Would be nice to have another option if nothing else.
-
No surprise Bednareks isn't great, his distribution is dreadful. Valerys' is alarmingly poor, but probably because he plays a lot of balls up the line and likes to dribble into the other half. Certainly something he needs to improve though.

I don't think that the standard is any better this season, but there just isnt a couple of teams that are just a mess like last season, in Huddersfield and Fulham. You look at the 3 promoted sides and Sheff Utd have fight and endeavor along with playing some very decent football, which IMO will keep them up. With all the changes at Villa, I thought they'd struggle more at the start of the season, but they've been impressive and can't see them going down, and Norwich who knows...the most likely of the three to go down, but far from a shoe in. From the other teams towards the bottom last season: 17. Brighton - We only beat them because Andone got sent off - have been quietly impressed with their football, but will be there or thereabouts. 15. Burnley - Already got 12 points, solid and home record will keep them up 14. Bournemouth - Already got 12 points, free flowing attacking football, and have upgraded their CM position to protect their back 4 - won't go down. 13. Newcastle - Poor side, poor manager, big club. Will be involved. 12. Crystal Palace - Already got 14 points, and currently 6th - impressed with them this season. 11. Watford - Poor side, who can't win a game, but have the money and the players to get them out of the position they're in. Other teams of note currently towards the bottom... Wolves - too good to go down Everton - too good to go down Man Utd - just wanted to put them in here If you asked me now, I'd say it'll be three from Us, Norwich, Watford, Newcastle and Brighton.

Guido Carrillo - Official: Free Transfer to Elche
Saint Garrett replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
Hopefully he goes somewhere with a bit larger budget, and he can buy Carrillo off us. -
Not sure I get this "we've been lucky because of VAR". All the goals that have been ruled out against us, should have been clean cut decisions, so if anything it just shows the refs aren't doing their jobs properly in our games. The handball / offsides are black and white, VAR is just correcting the poor refereeing. The decisions that have some kind of subjectivity to, are the ones that are an absolute mess at the moment. The ref is not there to re-referee the game, but they are allowed to overturn decisions if the errors are clear and obvious. Problem is no-one know what's clear and obvious! I have no problem with using VAR for offsides / handballs (it's probably more the rule that needs looking at?). Questions have to be asked about the pens / tackles though.
