In fairness, he’d looked really poor at the start of that season, and that Sheff Utd cup game was a disgrace all around, and Mane looked like he’d never played football before. Then a few weeks later, just before he buggered off to the ACON, he smashed Chelsea and gave Terry the run around and never looked back. He deserved criticism at that time, his performances were rubbish, but he also got a huge amount of praise in the follleimy months. That’s football, He turned a corner. Some wrote him off, some realised he had potential and it was a matter of trying to unearth it. Gave us all a lesson (including myself) not to write off a young player too quickly, especially one who has come in from another country!

Agree he's here to break into the first team, though he's going to be behind Perraud and KWP there. If we get a few injuries, or we have a bit of a cup run, I think we could see him come off the bench or get the odd start. Potentially even as a LW
-
He's definitely turned a corner after a very poor season last season. The clubs decision to stick with him, and get him to sign the new contract seems to have settled him down. Still would like us to invest in a better keeper next summer, but would be happy for them to battle it out as no 1.

It's ridiculous. On the way back I think I found a return for about £20 back to Southampton from Norwich, but if I go back to Basingstoke its about £80. Exactly the same trains. Ridiculous. Ended up just sucking it up in the end, and bought tickets yesterday. Long old day, hopefully we can nick 3 points.

They're class, love it. Been so many crap ideas over the years....cough "My Way", but this is superb and simple.

Yeah, what a fantastic trip. I think the majority of us fully well knew it was not going to happen again for a long time.... That side... Forster 6; Martina 6.5, Yoshida 6, Van Dijk 6, McQueen 6.5; Hojbjerg 6, Romeu 6.5, Ward-Prowse 6.5; Tadic 6 (Boufal 73 6); Rodriguez 6.5 (Davis 78), Long 6 (Austin 48 6.5). Not the strongest...can't remember who else we had that season but Cedric, Bertrand and Fonte were missing, can't remember whether that's because we were playing the "squad game" or whether it was just our strongest team at the time? (Fonte I know had gone "awol" and left out of european games run)

Tickets on sale today. Trains are a nightmare, none running between Ipswich and Norwich. Bus replacements Think I’ll wait to see if the prices change.

Agent talk I’d expect. not sure he gets in any other Prem team.

I don't see that A Armstrong deserves to start. He's looked pretty awful so far since he's signed, and I would have Tella, Redmond, Adams and Broja all ahead of him at the moment. He needs to work hard to make himself undroppable, but until then, he looks way off the pace IMO. He's also incredibly wasteful. I would expect he'll start next week against Chelsea in the cup. I'd go with the same side on Saturday, and hopefully we can defend against this lot, as we know it's going to be a tough physical battle, and apart from Salisu and Broja, we barely have anyone else who can head the ball.

What a player. Absolutely superb yesterday and probably our best player so far this season. Deserves a lot of credit. Yes he’s young and still has the odd moment, but he will be playing for one of the big boys at some point. Got to think about extending his contract IMO
-
Thing is - that wouldn't really change anything, as she clearly isn't interested in ploughing £xm into the club which is why she sold 80% in the first place.
-
Not overly surprising, especially given how poor he was at Sheff Utd when he did start. I really worry about us when Adams doesn't play, as we can never get up the pitch. We're going to need to play on the counter or hope we can get in behind them., but expect it will be 2 of Redmond, Armstrong or Tella up front. Might even go with the 4141 with Diallo and Armstrong driving forward ahead of Romeu with 2 of Tella, Moussa and Walcott wide with Armstrong through the middle. We need to find a way to get on the scoresheet thats for sure.
-
Would not surprise me if he ends up playing, or at least being in the squad. Shame JWP isn't playing as he gave Phillips the run around at St Marys last season, to which Phillips got hooked at HT.

Chelsea 1-1 (p.4-3) Saints - Match Thread

Yeah - bit pathetic really. Managed to switch work days around, so working from London Tuesday instead. Tickets aren’t even that expensive, come on saints fans! -
He doesn’t regularly start for Scotland anyway.
-
Hopefully we have a pretty much full squad... Macca Tino Bednarek Salisu Perraud Romeu Diallo Armstrong Tella Adams Armstrong COYS
-
The only thing in our favour there, would probably be the fact he'd be guaranteed first choice keeper, whereas he probably wouldn't play ahead of Areola at WHU, or Lloris at Spurs....
-
We quite often buy players on the Jan transfer window who are out of contract in the summer. Would take him for sure. Fraser’s contract is up this summer right? Seems logical to me…
-
Need to win it, should win it….not sure about reality though, especially without JWP. Need someone to magic up a goal or 2 from somewhere!

Chelsea 1-1 (p.4-3) Saints - Match Thread

Will be a real shame if we got a shit following, I’d (wrongly!) assumed those blocks had already been sold…! -
Absolutely. Under Koeman and Poch we were comfortably punching above our weight because we got it so right on the pitch. Scouting, recruitment, youth etc. Now we're stuck in a place where we've had years of getting it wrong, which comes at a cost, and an owner that won't spend. At what point do we start going for Gao's head? Difficult as he seems like he's in a place he never wanted to, but the selling price is way too high for us, so no-one will buy us. You look though the table now, and you have the "Superleague 6", West Ham, Leicester, Villa, Everton who we cannot compete with financially. You have a few clubs that are in a similar position to where we were a few years ago and getting it right - Brighton, Brentford, Leeds, Wolves. That leaves Burnley, Palace, Norwich, Newcastle (about to get a massive buy out) and Watford. Unfortunately the last few years of shite have caught up with us. We need Norwich to be a pile of shit all season, and 2 of Burnley, Palace, Norwich and Newcastle to be dross. Palace look considerably better than we do this season so far, especially given they're working with a new manager and a new squad. Why we didn't go for Anderson I do not know. Sure if Newcastle do get taken over, they'll buy themselves out of it in January. It's going to be a long season

Didn't realise he was only 18.

cUnacceptable inconsistency and appalling standard of referees
Saint Garrett replied to cambsaint's topic in The Saints
My opinion is exactly the same as it was before it was brought in. Use it for black / white decisions - Offsides, goal line tech, even whose throw in it is or corner vs GK. But don't use it when there is manual intervention involved. And the whole "clear and obvious" thing, was essentially footballs version of umpires call in cricket. But it doesn't work in football, because the end result is still subjective. Tackles always look way worse in slow motion, and are 100% influenced by the home side, especially if it's a big stadium. It's now got to the point that if the ref goes to the monitor the decision is overturned. Prowsey's at the weekend was a booking, no more. -
