Whilst McCarthy has done well overall this season I don't think that his position should be considered guaranteed ! Why not try Gunn v his former club, Man City (we'll probably lose anyway) where he'll get loads of practice and gain valuable PL experience ! IMO, it's not a silly suggestion and might be better to let him have a go now rather than waiting for an injury to give him his opportunity !

Thought he was pretty good going forward but was poor defensively !

Saw Cedric outside the stadium yesterday as he jogged back to his car, didn't appear to be hampered by injury so I would hope that he is ok for Sat ! Having said that, it wouldn't bother me if Valery continued cos he did well yesterday ! The biggest miss would be Redmond IMO as he is the one who will run at them and put them under pressure !

Get Gary Cahill on loan in January ! He will bring stability, leadership and should help improve the likes of Stephens ! Otherwise we're left with a bunch of error prone journeymen !

If I recall correctly, Hughes was our actual manager when we actually stayed up !

Had we been relegated under Hughes he would have been crucified therefore as we stayed up he deserves the credit ! Surprises me that people want to rewrite history, what's the point ? Trousers' logic is correct - teams below you don't keep you up, you stay up by being above them !

Ralph definitely needs to look at him and assess whether he could be up to PL standard, personally I think it's too early to write him off and considering he's costing us a lot of money whether he's playing for us or somebody else it's a risk worth taking ! Had the thread title been "Which saints players do you rate the least" it might have been taken more seriously ! The word 'dislike' should really only be used in situations where you know the person / a reaction to comments made / going on strike / negative gestures to the crowd etc..

Have watched him recently playing for Scotland and he is an intelligent footballer with a key role to play for Saints IMHO ! Not dynamic but has good vision, an eye for a killer pass and not afraid to shoot, as witnessed in yesterday's match ! I'm guessing that his two goals at least means he will start the next game and hopefully get a run in the team which can only be of benefit to him ! One of the few positives from yesterday, so we live in hope !!

You didn’t watch the game today then ?? In general play Saints were far superior ! As ever though, we missed easy chances and conceded soft goals but no way were all those Fulham players better than ours ! They are still beneath us in the league for a reason !

On top of his £2.2 mil salary I'd be very surprised if he didn't have some built-in incentive bonus(es) plus pension contributions to boot ! I would also expect that there is a 'golden farewell' payment from his employers so why in hell's name they need a whip round from the clubs to top it up baffles me ! Actually I didn’t think we did so badly either and neither did the guys on radio Solent ! The conditions were dreadful and played a part too !!

The only way to prove himself here is to get a run in the team and that ain’t gonna happen so we may as well offload him at the best possible price ! Critical thing though is to replace him with an improvement and we will he competing with most of the lower half PL teams whose need is just about as great as ours ! Good luck to the new DoF !
