  1. Agreed. We should get rid of that Kelvin Davis guy too. His goal scoring record is abysmal. There are few facts in life, but one that is undeniable is that Saints fans never appreciate a defensive midfielder (Matt Oakley was the worst player to grace the shirt (la, la, la) until he was injured and left). You don't want your DM to be 'getting forward' a la Chaplow - because it leaves a big hole if the attack breaks down. The role is never going to be spectacular, but it is important. I rate Morgan, I don't think he's the greatest in the world (to compare to Scholes or Svensson is stupid), but for our level and above he's a very good player. He's still young and will play at a higher level, hopefully with Saints.
  2. LOL at the most stupid statement ever.
  3. Pity. I liked the Pardew Sacked article. I miss it.
  4. That's not really the point Steve on two counts: 1) It matters not whether something is being used if you sold it. I don't begrudge the salesman who sold me my car if I don't drive it (but I do if it won't start). 2) Having an old news item on the frontpage (particularly one so obviously old) effectively says the site is shut for business, therefore the forum suffers as well. The casual visitor won't bother going beyond the front page. But, in fairness, it's not as if much newsworthy has happened since the Pardew was sacked.... oh....
  5. Forum posta in bad gramma slur shock
  6. Does anyone know a way to get the Saints Player to work on the Iphone. I've got Fstream which should allow me to, but finding the URL of the stream has proven difficult. Any ideas?
  7. Shilts probably had a tenner on it...
  8. 1) Stadium - regardless of the why's and wherefores, Lowe had a significant part to play in the construction of the stadium and, as someone else pointed out, it's that infrastructure that made us an attractive prospect for investors. 2) Negotiation - we got some bargains under Lowe and also sold for top dollar. Probably lost a few too by playing hardball but who really knows. Personal favorite cash cow was Kevin Davis plus Theo Walcot (good value for a player out of contract although his parents probably had a lot to do with that) 3) Played by the rules - It didn't get much publicity but Lowe paid Swindon £100K from Walcot's transfer owing from when we took him from them. They'd forgotten about it and, considering they were cash strapped, it helped a lot. 4) Turned Saints in to a business - Unpopular, yes. Necessary, certainly. 5) Cup Final 2003 - every member of the club deserves credit for their part in this. Thanks for the memories. Yes there were plenty of negatives too, but a balanced, dispassionate view says RL delivered a lot for the club. At the time of his ousting I remember several people saying I wish we had so and so instead (Simon Jordan's name came up more than once). Most of the names mentioned there were chancers who are long gone leaving their teams with memories of big names but a ****hole of a stadium. At least when RL left we had an infrastructure we can build on.
  9. We could map it. Or we could move on....
  10. It's despicable. Cortese should have come out cleanly to the paper saying that Pardew's position was under consideration, it was likely that he would be sacked and that he didn't have the full support of the owner/manager. Then he should have kept him on as he did..... 'cos that would be good wouldn't it? What happened is called playing the game with the press. I would expect every chairman / owner to review, every year, whether the manager is doing the business. They then make a decision on that. What I wouldn't expect is for the contents of that meeting to be in the press because it would be twisted to make a better story. Best therefore to say nothing / ill-informed / **** off. Semantics, but if the situation had been considered and a decision made then any speculation as to his future is ill-informed because the matter has been resolved. So in reality it's not even lying.
  11. Your golden balls aside, I do think the fact that Joe Public can't post has/is killing the board. It wouldn't be so bad if the mods posted a statement of accounts let the fee payers (of which I was, but am no longer) what it is costing to run. Sadly I think they are too busy sunning themselves in Barbados on the profits from this golden goose (hence why the website is still reporting Pardew sacked). It's well known fact that they spent the recent subs on numerous nights out in Southampton's premier pole dancing establishment. Now is that libel or humour. It's a fine line
  12. Face facts losers. Kingsland block 30 is the new Northam. It's da bomb.
  13. I disagree. There are plenty of opportunities to fund the forum that don't involve a standing charge. I know it is only £5 but it is a barrier to entry. I don't know how many paying users and I don't know how much the dedicated server is costing. However, there are but there are plenty of hosting options that could deliver a board of this size on ad funding / adhoc contributions and, especially now, cloud based solutions that would scale with demand. It doesn't matter how dedicated your server is if you've got no visitors.
  14. Personally I think the death knell of this forum was sounded when it started charging. That in turn stopped occasional posters starting threads and just left the diehards (often with their agendas). It's a vicious circle that reduces the throughput of the forum. Just my opinion. But forums are all about critical mass.
  15. To be honest I don't know any of you from Adam. However, I have deduced the following things about being a poster on here: - you need an ability to be selectively outraged - you need to be blind to motives - you need to see things as very black and white - you need to believe gossip as fact if it supports your opinion - you need to be able to not only jump on, but steer a bandwagon to your desired destination. And, at the end of the day, you need to be able to argue like schoolgirls over next to nothing. For the record, Manji (who I do not know), refered to Mike Osman as a freeloader relating to the time Wilde, Crouch and Hone (or Hoos-ever it was) were in charge. Much as it suits Derry et al. to claim, I don't think that Manji was commenting on the very valuable charity work MO is obviously doing now or then. I believe there were (unsubtantiated) claims about how much he was being paid for his pre-match work and, equally, LMac was also under fire for that. Was their pay justified? I don't know Is it largely irrelevant now? Yes Is being frozen out likely to irk them a little / a lot? Almost without doubt. Just like posters on here, L.Mac / MLT have opinions - often in areas of which they have little informed experience. But, unlike posters on here, their opinions have consequences. Unless they have substance as opposed to hearsay, I'd like (more in hope than expectation) for them to moderate them for the good of my club.
  16. I suggest listening to some music. "Have a Little Patience", "Rome wasn't built in a day" etc. We're having a blip. A disruptive blip, in an important season, but a blip. Last year we went through with a minimum of injuries / suspensions and this seems to have caught up with us. However, given the money we have spent and the players that showed their ability last year, I am still confident that we will prevail. Personally I wouldn't swap our financial position, infrastructure, team or setup for any other in L1. Happy clappy? Maybe. I call it realism.

    Wages

Nice to see them teaching you how to use the internet though.
  18. ORLY? In Lowe's day the club said the average ticket price was £14 (once you take into account OAPs, kids, comps etc.) 5000 * £14 gives you a mere £35000 per game which doesn't go very far when you've got people on £12K per week. Granted we don't know what their appearance / goal bonuses were but they weren't going to be £50 of M&S vouchers and a Mars Bar. We went bust because of a bounced cheque of £small - we were that close to the bone. Lowe's interference in the playing side was inevitable and not doing so would have been a dereliction of duty.
  19. I'm not sure that, as historians go, you're clear of Pravda-esque revisionism... but FWIW, other than a) having a replacement pre-appointed or b) coughing up more compensation, Cortese could have done much more. That's based on what's in the public domain -the rest is based on rumour, conjecture and grinding axes.
  20. My opinion: If the above is true, then Adkins will be announced as manager tomorrow and take training tomorrow. Either compensation has been agreed or he's resigned. It benefits neither club to be in limbo so I suggest the former. Making an announcement today serves no purpose (other than to cool the keyboards of some of the numpties on here). I for one will give him 100% support. I suspect some on here will struggle with that, but that's football.
  21. I was at the game and thought Connolly was largely absent. Not surprising when we persist with hoofball (note to team: Ricky Lambert isn't that great in the air, keep it on the deck).
  22. Deal was done yesterday. Announced tomorrow. Starts on Monday. No point in announcing yesterday or today, it'll have distracted from the glory of the performance at Swindon.
  23. Yes. You're a ****.
  24. I think this Twitter from FootballAgent46 may be relevant: "After all week on the south coast doing various I'm on M1 heading north to get things done. I hoped for break after the window shut " about 5 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® I wonder if he is Adkins agent. He seemed in the know about Adkins being one of the final two. He also posted about something breaking down 'out of [his] control' yesterday about the time it all was up in the air.....
  25. Swiss bankers don't do anything without having a reason. They also don't talk to the press before or (usually) after they've done it. £500K (the figure is irrelevant) compensation is £500K we can't spend on Antonio or similar. Personally (and I have no evidence either way), I think the on/off is a negotiating ploy. Not getting Adkins doesn't work for either party: - Scunny have a manager who's agreed terms with another club. - Saints don't have a manager and whoever replaces him knows they're second choice. It will be interesting to see what happens now given that Cortese doesn't like doing his business in public.
