11 seasons in the Premier League - Best Moments
Fan The Flames replied to melmacian_saint's topic in The Saints
Chatting to my Brighton mate last night and their upcoming European campaign and the two we had (well one really). Made me get pissed off all over again with getting knocked out on head to head results by the away goal rule instead of going through on goal difference. Shit rules that year, and so typical of us to get fucked up by it. -
A bit hard on Mark Robins, promotion in first season and a better league finish each season for the next five, including another promotion as champions. All whilst CCFC has been a basket case off the pitch including not always playing in Coventry.

Favourite Saint who has a surname that's a first name?

TOTP was a great coach

That is exactly my point, call out his record by all means. But calling it clever and hip as though it's some new way of thinking is wrong. Kieran McKenna and Steven Schumacher have equal records as our three managers I mentioned, but they are also viewed as clever and hip options.
-
Football clubs have always looked to appoint up and coming managers, so calling this choice 'trying to be clever and hip' isn't right. David Jones 41 from Stockport Ian Branfoot 44 from Reading Lawrie McMenemy 37 from Grimsby Criticise it but find better reasons.

Brighton aren't getting into the top four, even when they beat us. They are in a European place and are likely to remain there.
-
Figures of 101 goals for 35 against, is very good, pushed Plymouth all the way. Second best GD in Europes top leagues, and he won't mention that in interviews.
-
FFS you've been shoe horning 'how shit saints fans are' into posts since 2010.
-
Daniel Farke soon to be surplus to requirements at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Won the Championship twice with Norwich.
-
I appreciate that this is market we are in, that we've always been in. But PV has managed a couple of seasons in Europe and both times had a good first season followed by a poor season, where he gets the boot. We can get a better average manager, who has achieved a bit more.
-
The only downside with PV is his managerial career to date has been very average.

Everton going down would help with the pain of 1984.

The cunt is counting how many divisions they are below us now.

Worst Player of the Season Award 2022/23
Fan The Flames replied to niceandfriendly's topic in The Saints
AMN, either too fuckin lazy or unaware of danger. Either way not good enough for the prem. -
Living in Kent I know a few Palace fans and the stuff coming out about Vieira wasn't great. I know this stuff gets said when a manager gets sacked, but a couple of the guys I know are quite level headed. Vieira apparently lost the dressing room this season and there was a lot of bad feeling between him and a lot of the players. I thought he was treated harshly but a lot of Palace fans thought he had to go in the end.
-
Cheers boys, nice chatting to you, see you when we're back in the prem.
-
I'll be fuckin gutted if it's Gerrard.
-
Brad from Neighbours has written a book.
-
You could look at it from the other way around, that the one guy paid millions of pounds to manage a prem side shouldn't have risen to the emotional bleatings of a number of anonymous fans. Only a joke of a manager responds to a fans chant. The mistake of getting Jones in, doesn't mean getting rid of Ralph was a mistake and likewise the mistake of getting Selles in doesn't mean getting rid of Jones was a mistake.

SR won't walk, they worst case scenario is that they want to sell, stop investment until sold, but want too much for us and we enter limbo land. Assets are sold to cover costs and we slowly decline with an increasingly disenchanted and angry fan base.
-
Interesting that I don't now think of the 2009 relegation, I think of it as an extension of the 05 relegation. Maybe that's a prem bias way of looking at things. But that season was all about who was running the club and administration, the football was a side issue. I never worried about administration, we were too big to go under for ever.
-
Definitely worse in 05, we had our top flight record to defend and I was obsolutely gutted when we went down. I was doing excel spreadsheets of the relegation run in, glue to Saints Web or whatever it was called. But this time I'm ok with it. For me a disconnection with the club has happened over the last few years, whether that is because of the club or because of the prem, I dont know. I liked Ralph and he kept me believing, despite the evidence of a declining club and SR hasn't been the new start I hoped it would be. But a big part for me is because it wasn't too bad last time we went down, we had some great years coming back up. I've also been following Plymouths results this season and I've got more enjoyment doing that then I have from the Saints, I want a bit of that promotion thing, going on long unbeaten runs, going to new places. I can't wait to get this season over and done with and getting stuck into next season.

What about four goals.
