Watching MotD. Leicester's Diabate looks exactly like the type of player we're crying out for... Very Mané-esque.... Probably cost a fraction of what Promes would set us back too....
-
One assumes our old fair wearther chum Mack Rill has run out of popcorn...?

Are you suggesting that a home side shouldn't deploy counter tactics if an away manager decides to put 4 players up front? Even more serious question
-
Sounds like you've described Charlie Austin there.... which probably isn't a bad thing given Carrillo is supposedly a direct replacement for Austin whilst injured. That said, what happens when they're both fit is anyone's guess!

The difference today is Pellegrino was reacting to a situation rather than the aribtrary tactical changes you refer to in previous games. (IMO)

Yep, agree. My view of today was that we were just as likely to go 2 or 3 up as Watford were of equalising. I've been frustrated with Pellegrino's negative tactics as much as the next man, but I feel today was different. Previously, Pellegrino has gone negative for the sake of doing so. Today, he simply reacted to Watford's change in tactics. In other words, he did something we've all been crying out for.... read the game and react accordingly rather than making arbitrary negative changes. As you say, different perspectives and opinions is one of the beauties of football fandom....

The dynamic of the game had changed before Pellegrino made this substitution. They had already started to apply pressure. He was reacting to Watford's change of tactics. Which, on this occasion, was the right move IMO.

Ssshhhhhh.....

Was surprised he played more in a midfield role rather than up top, so impossible to judge really. I'd have pulled Long into a slightly deeper and/or wider position and put Carrillo up front, which, after all, is why we signed him (?). He definitely doesn't have any pace about him, but we knew that anyway

You can thank me for my perspective too if you want

Just back from the game. Agree with Shroppie.... we played well and were unlucky not to go 2 or 3 up. I've been critical of Pellegrino's negative tactics in the past but I felt reinforcing our defence with a third CB was actually warranted today as their No.33 was starting to cause us problems, Stephens in particular was struggling to contain him. All in all a decent, comfortable performance and never had that usual sinking feeling that the opposition was going to score (yes, they came close at the end) Shane Long deserves to start ahead of Gabbi IMO. He wins so many aerial balls and seemingly lost causes. Something Gabbi simply doesn't do. My one negative observation is Carello played more as a midfielder when he came in rather than up top. I'd have moved Long out wide and put Carrillo up top - that after all is why we've bought him. Anyway, a satisfying performance and result at the end of the day.

Greetings from St Mary's. We're playing well. All we're missing is a fast attacking midfielder....

I watched a couple of his YouTube videos earlier and he seems to have a knack of being in the right place at the right time in and around the 6 yard area. His movement to get away from defenders in tight areas looks good. I get the feeling we could be about to see JWP's assist count going through the roof... wishful thinking and all that... Welcome aboard Guido!

Pellegrino confirmed Promes is a serious/genuine target for the club (in today's press conference). Sounded relatively hopeful but likely to go to the wire if it happens (paraphrasing)

To be fair, 'brexiteers' tend to follow the same rules in reverse...

If there's any truth in that Sturridge article, why on Earth didn't we make it a condition of selling VvD that we got Sturridge on our terms? i.e. loan + option to buy. Given how desperate Liverpool we're to sign VvD, surely we were in pole position at the negotiating table? On the surface, it does seem we're a tad naive/soft when it comes to player negotiations. Of course, the article could be a load of old bow locks.
