How damaging do you think the Pinnacle fiasco will be..?
Redondo Saint replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
As much I do think the Pinnacle group have delayed/damaged our pre-season, I don't believe they started off as tyre kickers. From whatever source (do we really know?) they did fund a month's wages which may have saved the club at the time. They also convinced Fry of their financial backing. It appears to me that they did string Fry along when it must have been known to them they no longer had sufficient funding to make a purchase. This is where they should have owned up and removed themselves from the picture. Things happen in business and I sympathise, but this where they made a big mistake. However, in my opinion the biggest mistake was to conduct their business through the media and fans websites. This is just not how serious business is conducted. Let's face it, without MLT, would anyone have given Pinnacle credibility? edit. if Crouch did pay the 500k then what was Fry thinking in continuing with Pinnacle? -
What? Money has everything to do with football.

that away kit against Charlton is really ****e IMO. Doesn't seem to match at all.

Me thinks you should send your vid to Sturrock...

Agreed. Let's not get too carried away with the Echo's attempt at discrediting everyone from the past.

Welcome to today's world of football. If you want an old fashioned style of club football you need to look at non-league - and even some of those players will move for an extra tenner. ML has only been here 5 minutes, I hope he does spend some money as our current squad will not get us out of this division.

Thanks for the SSN link. Most refreshing thing for me in the interview was his use of "we" when taking about SFC. It's been a while since our manager has talked in this way. Burley was probably the worst in referring to the club as something he was not a part of... A small point perhaps, but something I believe to be a big deal.

1976 was only part of LM's contribution to our history. No one other than LM could have brought players such as Ball, Shilton and Keegan to The Dell. Just look at our league positions during the early '80's. It doesn't matter if you are too young to have been around during LM's tenure, or were not a fan. To be resentful of him being invited to sit in the directors box is to not know SFC and shows a complete lack of intelligence (IMHO). I am too young to have been around during WW2 but I know enough to have absolute respect for those that fought. Time to move on, but never forget those that contributed to our history.

Agreed. I found out the news this morning and was inititially disappointed. However, your summary is spot on. Let's get behind him and hope for some stability and winning ways to promote this season.

Noticed he had a trial for Torquay against Plymouth. I thought he was meant to be one of our future stars not so long ago - what happened?

come on chaps - where is the YouTube highlights???? how about an over 40's game next year? -
I think you are missing the point. It's okay to have some drinks but not okay to get pished up - both as a professional footballer and representative of the club. I have no problem with players socialising/clubbing, but I do have a problem if they are completely trashed. You make a choice: be another kid on the pish, or make the grade as a professional.

let's wait until we get a new manager and goalkeeping coach before making a decision.
-
Are you sure? Who ever is the new manager can expect some stick from parts of the fan base. I don't believe for a second that "we'd all fall into line".
-
God how true!! I used to hate it when we got on the back of our ex players.

Venables, Hodgson, Robson.

Burley?

It's all about market forces. If a club/business believe a player is worth 200k per week then so be it. Providing they can sustain this level there is no problem from a business point of view. Players are assets and if a club get a return on the asset there is no problem. The money in sport, music, showbusiness, etc, is plain stupid. However, until fans decide to not spend money on tickets, TV, etc, nothing will change. If you like watching football but are disgusted with players salaries, I suggest you watch non league.

Sadly that's what happens when banks and accountants run the show. This applies to all businesses the world over.

Like Newcastle and Middlesborough? Don't get me wrong. If Woggy can help the team (in whatever way) then great. I just don't agree with bringing back staff based on sentiment. I would like to see Merrington and Rofe back.....

Poll: Would you be happy for Pearson to be our manager?

Bring back D & G. -
If fans want management and squad stability they better hope we don't reach the Premiership.
-
yup. I would be surprised if the manager that gets us promoted from League 1 to the Premiership will remain the manager.
