Has been on the bench for 5 out of 7 league matches this season and came on in 2. Are you Fraser Nelson in disguise?

Saints playing for England (and other internationals)

Steven Davis equaliser for Norn Iron. -
Don't believe that figure for a minute, but I'm sure whatever he is "costing" for is budgeted for by NC. This concern for the cost of wages is a real throw back to the bad old days of Lowe and the plc.

Just for the sake of accuracy, the stats for this season are actually as follows: 4 sub appearances, ave 11.5 passes, 67.4% success rate Admittedly this is the lowest of any of our outfield players, just behind Osvaldo and Lambert. Boruc has a worse pass success rate, perhaps we should ship him out based on that. Incidentally Guly has the top pass success rate, 100%. Data courtesy of whoscored.com

I see WGS was desperately short of cover at LB for their game on Tuesday against Croatia. Called up Steven Hammell of Motherwell. If he plays it will be his first cap since 2004 at the age of 31.
-
No he isn't. WGS did not select him in his squad of 29 to play England. His last appearance for Scotland was a year ago this coming weekend.

Think that Lovren realised what Hooiveld and Yoshi found out last season, that covering for the woeful Fox makes your life very difficult. There is no way to excuse Fox, it is not a confidence issue, he is confident, in fact thats part of the problem. He is just ****e, he does not know how to defend. Jogs along with no hope of reaching the ball, he is slow, defensively inept and even his deliveries were poor today. He is simply not good enough and is our weakest link by a mile. Why on earth MP did not play Clyne at LB today and Chambers at RB I don't know, Clyne is as good at LB as he is on the right. Anyway, forgetting about Fox, thought everyone else was good today, we were very good first half, although second half we were hanging on, but we were doing it effectively. Vic's passing is woeful, but by God his tackling is brilliant. Morgan was good, but not quite so stand out as he has been in the past. Boruc made some excellent saves, but his kicking is woeful, but he oozes confidence and you just feel he is not going to concede. Apart from one terrible back pass I thought Fonte was the best CB defensively again for the 3rd week running, poor Dejan had to do the job of 2 men, even Ossie was back covering in the LB position a few times. Ossie and Lambert were not at their best, but did well. Nice to see JRod on the scoresheet. Brilliant performance, and goal from Lallana, my man of the match, and almost as good from Steve Davis, he really is beginning to show his mettle, he is like a little terrier, his tackling back and his vision are top notch, can't see Gaston getting back into the team for a while with SD in this form. Good to see a nice little cameo from Guly as well. All in all very happy we are 4th. We are not playing great (agreed we are playing different under MP but we have forgotten how good we were at passing the ball, we give it away far too often now, and thats not good).

Too many Badgers on here, quoted the wrong one, oops.

He is Adamant, not Adam Ant

How many caps has Dyer got? Apparently coming from Trowbridge qualifies him for Jamaica :-) He must also soon qualify for Wales by residence, as it seems he is not even in the reckoning for England. Just shows what happens when you play for an unfashionable club. Think Ox will prove to be a lot better than either of the other, remember he is 6 years younger than Dyer and Walcott.

Do you think the plan is to play gaston when fit?
VectisSaint replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Of course, comes into the head easily, surprised you didn't consider Eva Peron first. LOL. -

and General Galtieri, how does he come into it? -

Nice post showing support of one of our players - demented granny that stinks of week, pre-pubescent lightweight player. You don't like insults but you sure as hell know how to insult players. Love to know how General Galtieri comes into this. Aparicio Mendez may have made more sense. By the way, players don't actually get a choice about whether they go or not when selected for their national teams, well at least not unless you played for Fergie in which case an excuse would be found if needed. I agree we have not seen the best of Gaston yet, but I know that we have seen some glimpses, and there is a buzz around the ground when he comes on because those who go to games know that there is the chance of something special happening when he plays. But you wouldn't know about that would you. -
Its not A4, about same width but a bit shorter than A4. I really don't like it, far too big, doesn't fit in pockets, will be ruined when it rains and gets wet. I suspect it is cheaper to print due to the smaller number of pages than before.

I think the child could play for England regardless of whether it is a boy or a girl. General point on the thread, there seem to be some on here who do not understand basic matters of biology in terms of time since conception. I doubt this was the result of anything that happened yesterday :-)

So will this be number 4 or number 7?

Unless we have another deal lined up we could be one of the few, maybe the only PL team that does not have a credit card agreement. Other clubs' cards had much more attractive offers than ours. Maybe we are moving to Creation Cards, or perhaps Nicola has lined up a deal with a third provider. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cardsloans/article-2380896/Football-credit-cards-Do-beat-competition-score-goal.html

Anyone else have the old Southampton FC Credit Card (MBNA)? Letter received today to say it will be discontinued when the card expires. No great problem to me, only advantage it had was 10% discount in Saints shop, but with 10% discount for season ticket holders it became valueless in that regard for me this season. Still a bit disappointing, was always nice to have a card displaying the team you support. I wonder if this means some other bank will provide similar scheme in the future or possibly a conflict with a future sponsor.

The Wigan game last season probably had a higher attendance than would have been expected because (a) it was our first home game back in the PL and (b) more crucially gave priority for ManU tickets. If we had played Wigan in say November gate would probably have been a couple of thousand down. In general though attendances across the board are down on last year. Think Saints sales are holding up well in the circumstances.

2-0 Jos

Sounds like Gaston, Chung , JWP and Guly are getting plenty of chances, just need to put another one or two away in the 2nd half. [sorry to interrupt the squabbling with news about the match]

Must be a bit like Torres turning out at the County Ground, 50m to score against Swindon.
-
We might as well play Lee, looked OK in yesterday's U21 game (clearly injury was not why he didn't travel yesterday, even though he was taken off injured during the week). Maybe Barnard could get a run out as well. Still would be tempted to have some of the big names on the bench, maybe Ossie.

I guess you weren't around in 1973 then

I know everyone is raving about Lovren yesterday, and fair play he did score the winning goal, and is a great buy, but I thought Fonte was better yesterday, certainly for what he is paid to do, i.e. defend. Lovren was fortunate that a penalty was not given against him, even though it probably was a correct decision, and Fonte's headed clearance off the line late on was superb. Certainly seems to have matured this season alongside Lovren and with the coaching of MP. Comments based on the extended Sky highlights.
