  1. He could refuse if Chelsea have other options in his position, i.e. if he doesn't see actually getting in the first team. Similarly Chelsea may not want to buy him back if they have sufficient depth already. I think also that were we to try to sell him next summer Chelsea have some sort of recourse, even though the buy-back clause does not otherwise kick-in for 2 years.
  2. Could be one of the shortest managerial reigns ever, when he moves to Liverpool after Klopp is sacked for losing to Saints.
  3. The Article goes on to say "Southampton youngster Tino Livramento maintained his ascent in the rankings after another impressive display in a 1-0 victory against Aston Villa." I think you can take it from that that these stats are basically a load of bollox or at least whoever penned the article has no clue.
  4. Bristol Rovers would have been his nearest league club when he was born (they played in Bath). Swindon is also technically not in Wiltshire these days. But I jest, I live in Wiltshire, well aware of the County Town, I guess by your user name that you do as well, or at least did at some point. Trowbridge was definitely very much in the catchment area of the Saints Satellite Academy in Bath, but I can't find any evidence that Turnbull was ever connected with the Bath site, it seems like he was recruited to Southampton directly from Swindon. 🙂
  5. There is, on Sunday, but not sure he would be eligible for the Women's team.
  6. Went to Swindon on loan about the same time as Jack Stephens, a few days after Les Reed had come out and said that our philosophy was not to send players out on loan. Turnbull is from Trowbridge by the way (same as Nathan Dyer), not sure that makes Swindon his home club although it was where he started as a youth player before he joined Saints Academy.
  7. Followed by Klopp sacking (can but hope) 😂
  8. Used to be that managers were sacked after losing to us, now its before and after. Klopp better watch out.
  9. Andy Townsend is embarrassing. They obviously didn't want our players to read the note Tyrone picked it up from the ground and stuffed it down his sock after one of his team had chucked it away beside the goal.
  10. Yes, seriously. Take off your rose tinted specs. Gave the ball away on numerous occasions, was no threat going forwards and was defensively all over the place. He is 18,he is going to have poor games sometimes, it's not a criticism, just an honest assessment. Over 90 minutes we were not that special last night, but fought well to hang on to our narrow lead.
  11. Had three or four tonight, McCarthy hopefully gave him a roasting. He was sound defensively otherwise, but his backpasses were absolutely shocking, reminded me of Wesley. Tino also had a very poor game, perhaps the hype is beginning to affect him. Stuey was also absolutely shocking (and I'm one of his greatest advocates), doesn't look to have regained his fitness, the sitter that he skied in the first half was just awful. Think otherwise everyone played well, perhaps not outstanding, KWP was excellent first half but Villa reigned him in 2nd.
  12. Not all conjecture. The time frame is governed I believe by FIFA/UEFA standards on buy back clauses. My understanding is that the buying club are protected for at least 2 years. There has to be some protection otherwise no one in their right mind would agree to a deal where the selling club can just click their fingers whenever they want.
  13. Why would you field just 9 Lyancos?
  14. It didn't make any difference last week when Smith was also without Ings, played same formation as previous game (at least while they had 11 men).
  15. That's a weird picture. What is he doing?
  16. It's not the English Premier League. It is "The Premier League" (often referred to as the English Premier League or the EPL). The legal name is the Football Association Premier League Limited (note not the English Football Association). It cannot become less English. Sorry to be pedantic.
  17. Quite, we'll see what occurs in January, but it doesn't look too promising. He had all the makings of a decent, if not spectacular player, but fate has not dealt him a kind hand.
  18. Wasn't aware that Sam McQueen had left. Where did you hear this?
  19. B Team 1 up against Villa at Staplewood. Tella pen.
  20. Armstrong actually had a good game today, assist for the goal and also set up Adams for the missed sitter. He was very creative and showed a lot of skill in and around the box. As an atta king midfielder he was excellent, but as a central striker, which is his role, he fluffed his lines so many times, not getting any of his efforts on target (albeit with some deflections not helping) is a problem. As part of a strike pair with Broja or Adams he is very effective, but has to start contributing some goals himself. I think they will come.
  21. Actually ended 3-2, Bragg was sent off 5 minutes from the end. They were joint top as it stood, but now 4th after other games completed, one point adrift of the leaders (Fulham)
  22. It was Europe, the quotes (or at least quotes of the quote) are still out there, amongst others. Regards Pele, I was only conjucturing why Busby said Europe and not the World, to be honest there weren't that many greats "outside Europe" at the time, most wore Brazilian shirts and based on 1966 they were not that great anyway (by 1970 that all changed of course). I don't think Pele was a Centre Forward in the same sense as Big Ron, by any means, as players they were chalk and cheese, I think Pele could have played alongside Ron in a "forward line" that also contained Sydenham, Paine and Channon 🙂 https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2013-05-29/ron-davies-an-appreciation https://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/may/30/ron-davies-obituary
  23. Couldn't score at this time of the year when he was "in his prime", chances that he could score now as a pensioner is remote at best.
  24. Ron Davies was the best centre forward in Europe, and that was according to no less than Sir Matt Busby. Would Pele have been considered a better centre forward which would have prevented Busby saying "best in the world". They were very different players, but I guess if Pele was considered a CF then Big Ron would have to have settled for 2nd place. I think he was the world's best at what he did at the time (1966/67 season in particular). 37 goals in one season for a team that leaked goals like a sieve was no mean feat. Still annoys me that the Club did not fully recognise his stature during his lifetime.
  25. Hope Chelsea go on and win it, always feel better losing to eventual winners (unless it's in the final of course)
