Post Match Reaction: Manchester United 1-1 SAINTS

Even with a weakened cup team, I would hope we batter Sunderland in a couple of weeks! I actually think the Fulham game is actually more important. Today was a gimme, if we lost no-one really would bat an eyelid. If we can win games against the likes of Fulham consistently, Europe will be a realistic target -

Saints playing for England (and other internationals)
edprice1984 replied to Bewildered's topic in The Saints
Last post.... Interesting all the stuff people are saying about Rooney. I agree that he hasn't hit the heights that were expected of him, but he has now scored 6 goals in last 5 games for England, most competitive goals for an England player and only Lineker scored more World Cup goals....not bad for a player who peaked at 16! Saying that I would love to see SRL to get on and grab a goal... Kyle Walker is a kn*b, stupid yellow -

How many times have we seen teams 'park the bus', I agree that we could do with a little bit of invention - the biggest problems for me is Gerrard, who slows everything down...also think we could do with switching Townsend to the left, and maybe bringing on Lambert instead of Welbeck would be a good move if we are still 0-0 in the last 20. Overall though England aren't a bad side, we just aren't a great one. -

Sorry, but England are playing well - high pressure when we lose the ball and starting to find room as the Montenegro side tire. Rooney should have done better, but feel that we will come good in the 2nd half -

Wasn't Nugent a Championship player when he played?

Your favourite Saints players that weren't popular?
edprice1984 replied to Bad Wolf's topic in The Saints
I am distantly related to Jimmy Melia on my Grandmother's side. Have to say I agree with the stuff about Telfer, thought he was a cracking player - but I always thought Rasiak was class, just unfortunate that he was here during that awful period in the clubs history. The goal v Derby in the playoffs alone still gives me goosebumps. Until Lambert scoring for England, the single biggest celebration ever watching football -

Lukaku to Everton...? I am delighted with the transfer window, but would still like Saints to put in a cheeky late bid for him on a season loan. That said where would he fit in? Lambert and now Osvaldo will be our top choice strikers with JRod as back up. -

I am sure he is a decent bloke, but he does my head in on Transfer deadline day - saying that I think the whole coverage is just getting ridiculous. -

Didn't Marian play in the 17 shirt?

As someone who has taken great glee from the Skates recent demise, I do feel the OP is a legitimate question. Personally my concerns are somewhat diminished by the TV money, and the fact that we are currently supplementing home grown talent with very good players. However it woul only take a poor run of form/sever injury crisis etc to leave the team in a perilous position and through no fault of management or the players. I am delighted with the squad and the signings over the past couple of seasons, but never forget 2009 and never forget what has happened to the Skates!

Sat in the stands last night I was close to tears when SRL made his debut...when he scored I went proper mental! The people around me were in no doubt I was a Saints fan (it helped that I was wearing the new away shirt). But the moment I lost all composure was hearing the English side of the stadium singing Ricky's name...to think that 4 years ago he was playing his first couple of games for Saints in League One and now he is hero not only to Saints fans but English football fans in general.

After Roma signed Gervinho, does this have any impact on Osvaldo's future?

As I have got tickets for Wednesday night I am blimming well over the moon! Any others on here going, make sure we get his song going, especially when he thumps one in the back of the net!

Interesting what some are saying about the lack of goals towards the end of the season. IMHO, I think it is mainly down to MoPo's tactics rather than Lambert or JayRod getting 'found out'. The biggest difference I have seen between Saints under MP compared to NA, other than the pressing - is how the fullbacks no longer commit to attack in the same gung-ho way. Certainly we are more cautious when breaking which has meant we have less supporting players SRL can bring in to play. I would also argue that SRL has played a huge mount of games in the last 4 years, with very little time out injured. A decent 10 goal a season striker to compliment JR and SRL would be all we will need (maybe another CB for strength in depth).

My wonderful wife bought me one for my birthday, which arrived today (fair play to Saints, she only ordered it at lunch time yesterday)...absolutely love it, mind you I am not a fat barsteward so it looks ok on me!

Does Gloucester count as Midlands? We like to think of it as South West or West Country, but as I am happy to be Midlands if it helps other Saints...

Went to Cayo Coco in 2006, absolutely gorgeous with stunning beaches. At the time it was the same price as a 4* trip to the Med...but since Fidel stepped down, market forces and the fact that Mexico is very dodgy has led to a bit of a price hike. I would recommend a couple of days in Havana too, we didn't go and regretted it after hearing about it from others in the hotel. Re the Canadians, they do fill the US void of ignorant loud mouths very well - mind you we seemed to be accompanied by half of the Bobby Moore stand when we went! The food (unless local cuisine) can be a bit tasteless but it is perfectly fine. However if you don't like rum you are going to struggle....I am now a total convert to Havana Club, oh and a good cigar!
