I've been reading this thread all week and it gets funnier every post. If he signs, brilliant - if he doesn't I will be disappointed but not too worried. I don't doubt that some deals have gone t*ts up in the past due to NC not taking **** from agents/managers/chairmen, but equally it is also obvious that certain deals have been completed because of the way we do business. Looking at all the stuff coming out of Italy it does appear that they are playing a bit of a game, they are financially screwed and are trying to squeeze as much cash as possible out of Saints. I imagine NC has now probably set a deadline, hence all the new talk about 'other targets'. Holloway's comments about Phillips may show that we have stepped up an interest there (that is solely based on my opinion, I have no factual basis for that). I still think the Ramirez deal will go through, probably tonight. But if we haven't heard anything by the end of tomorrow it is fair to say that the deal will be dead and we have moved on.

For people asking how good he is... I went to the GB v Uruguay game and he was excellent. Their stand out player and everything that was good generally came from him! Can't believe we even went in for him, let alone look likely to sign him. Definately the biggest signing since I have supported Saints (1990). He basically kept Bologna up last season and ended up pushing them to 9th. Obviously some players struggle to adapt to English football - but he has been superb in Italian football (a hard league with lots of hard challenges) and we play a style of football that should suit him. For example if Stoke City signed him I would say it would be the biggest waste of money in the history of football. COYR, please please pull this off!

I have no idea what is happening! Seriously are Saints about to spend over £10m on a player who is wanted by Spurs, Liverpool et al!? I think of myself as a realist and I do worry about us spending sooo much money - but holy cr*p!!!

This! The longer this situation goes on, the more and more it begins to resemble the final fate of Maidstone United. They need an absolute guarantee that the Skates will be able to fulfill their fixtures...unless Birch employs JK f****** Rowling (as above) he won't be able to convince them..... I believe that Birch would get paid from the revenue that came out of the asset stripping. Although I am not sure tbh.

Stevenage is anything but interesting

Trevor obviously doesn't have Sky Sports, which is strange considering the fees he is charging. You would have thought an extra £20 per month would be within his budget...which is quite ironic considering the Skates probably can't afford a TV license

Personally I am happy with the players we have brought in. With the exception of a CB (which I think even NA recognises we need), we have strengthened in all the positions we needed to. I certainly don't feel that we are in any worse off than most of the other teams in the league. If we can bring in one or two more before the season starts then all the better - Lens seems to be the 'big name', plus I would imagine we will be active in January too. Let's wait till the first few games are out of the way - 4 points from the opening 4 games would be a dream start imho!

The players signed a contract with OldCo, OldCo no longer exists, therefore contract does not exist! The NewCo asked all players to sign for them, some didn't as they were free agents and actually wanted to get paid. Simple! Football Authorities bottle a decision shocker!

In terms of performance, Swindon away was the ultimate low. I remember with 3 minutes to go every Saints fan jesticulating to Pardew to make a sub. (Circulating hands) I went to the Walsall away game too, that was just ridiculous - all over them and we lose to a Macken break away goal.
