  1. Once again a great blog and a great read.... I have posted my blog on here before - so here is my latest couple of updates. http://marching-back.blogspot.co.uk/
  2. Jimmy Carr is apparantly going to invest in Portsmouth FC now that he has exited the infamous K2 fund.
  3. Constrained Resources! I almost ruined my work keyboard, coffee now trickling down the back of the desk!! ROFL!
  4. I am going to GB v Uruguay on 1st August....I am sitting front of Middle tier behind goal.
  5. I think the technical term for the 'bib' is called a Yoke. If you look at the early kits for a lot of football clubs, a lot of the shirt had them. If I had my way I would just have the 2009-2010 kit every season (the last with flybe). Apart from the plastic sponsor bit one of my favourite kits. Simple Red and White stripes...but I understand the need for the club to maximise its cash flow by selling shirts.
  6. Blimey that was a good goal! Have a feeling Russia will nick it though
  7. The people who moan about this and the Olympics in general are always going to moan about it. You will never win them over. I really hope they can pull off something incredible and uniquely 'British' (whatever that is?!). Everyone marvelled at Beijing, but people forget that mass rallies/demonstrations are fairly easy to do when you have the threat of execution hanging over everyone!
  8. TBF the HMRC were going to block the previous Pompey CVA, it was just the debt suddenly became so large that it would have no effect - wonder how that happened???
  9. I really feel for you! That it absolutely disgraceful and I am sure you are not alone with this scenario. If I were you I would look to get together as many of the smaller creditors as possible and protest outside Football League/FA HQ - invite the press, it isn't even about Pompey anymore. No club should be able to get away with this!
  10. Trial may be a tad optomistic! Was invited up to WBA for weekend along with two other lads I played football with in local team. 1 of the lads was offered a YTS style contract, me and t'other were told thanks but no thanks. I was realistic about it at the time, I was and still am a decent player but nowhere near good enough to play anything above local football. One lad I played with as a youth was at Saints until he was released by Sturrock. Mike Green - Fullback if I remember.
  11. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Pulis Just thought I would see how our favourite wannabe footballer is getting on...Now in the USA playing for Orlando City (with Wayne Rooney's brother!) 55 senior league appearances in 10 years with 12 different teams (most of which have been in lower league football) Just like Forecast, makes me wonder how I slipped through the net! Based on Pulis' talent, I think I could command at least £2K a week - and the furthest I ever got in my footballing career was a trial with WBA's youth team when I was 14.
  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Butland I cannot believe no-one has mentioned this lad!
  13. Nothing to do with their inability to sign anyone due to the transfer embargo then???
  14. I ran with the baton in Cheltenham... The torch went past my childhood home this morning. The entire community was out, celebrating, talking to each other. Everyone had a smile on their faces, even the police outriders got cheered. Plus my 5 month old daughter had her pic with the torch too.
  15. So Henderson goes to West Ham, Ashdown released...are they playing 'Rush Goalie' next season?? Knowing that lot though, I am sure Gianluigi Buffon will be signed on a 9 year £100,000 per week contract in a few weeks!
  16. HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Just when you thought the story (and the thread) was heading off into the sunset, a familiar figure looms from the shadowy corner of the saloon...
  17. Jordan Rhodes, I agree that he has only played in League 1 - but so had Oxlade-Chamberlain and Pilkington. Personally I don't see any reason (other than Huddersfield demanding anything above £4M) why we shouldn't go for him. Yes other clubs might go in for him, but they have a lot more to lose - Everton, for example, aren't going to splash money around on an 'unproven player'. I think we are going to be linked with an awful lot of cr*p over the next few months...If we can start in August with all our key players retained and Jarvis, Davis (Rangers), Rhodes, unknown Italian hardman, CB and in my dreams Buckland (GK) from Brum I think we would be fine for next year!
  18. Isn't Villa injured? A decent bet would be a French striker...
  19. £41,349,647 for staying up! QPR did have a couple more live games which meant more cash so that figure is based on the equal share from the Premier League, Overseas TV Money, your Merit payment (ie where you finish) and 10 live games (the minimum). If Saints succeed next year and stay in the league we can expect that as a minimum payment...quite incredible sums of money.
  20. Going to Kerdiff to watch Team GB v Uruguay (plus the tickets also include the Mexico game) Then got two tickets to watch Beach Volleyball (one Mens match, one Womens match) The torch goes past my house next Thursday too...I am one of the few who is genuinely excited about the Olympics!
  21. We all said it at the time....'Family Club of the Year'!? The thing is, I am not at all shocked by this. How sad is that? I expect we will see some equally bad headlines coming out in the near future, especially if they do go pop. What is really distressing is, as some of the posters underneath both articles have stated, that TBH and his agent will get paid first rather than the Cancer Charity or Kids Charity. Their best chance of getting any of the cash donated is to wait for liquidation and join the free for all. I do feelm sorry for the fans who donated the cash too, they gave some of their hard earned money in full expectation that it would go to the charity - only to find out that the Dirty Skate barstewards kept it. If I were a Pompey supporter this would be the final straw, how can you possibly defend a team who does this???
  22. I agree it was a blanket statement, sorry about that. I would say that most of the Liverpool fans are reasoned and sensible but unfortunately a very vocal minority do let the rest of the club and to a point, the city down. Your defence of them is fair enough, but you must see that they really don't help themselves. An element of false outrage at anything that is a criticism of the city...they was a public outcry when papers indicating that members of the cabinet in the early 80's advocated 'managed decline'. It was 30 years ago for f**** sake! and Maggie shouted those voices down. It was a nothing news story, but it played into the hands of those who like the image of 'everyone is against us'. Liverpool is a fantastic city with lots going for it. Brilliant music scene, incredible architecture, mainly friendly people...it has its share of muppets but everywhere does. I love going back there to see family, but I am glad I don't live there. It is the north after all...
  23. Just to add to this glorious debate about how you aren't allowed to dislike Scousers unless you are related/married/breeding with one (obviously if all three, even better)... Almost all of my Dad's side of the family is from Liverpool and I have to agree with the arguement that they wallow in self pity. It's a Catholic Guilt thing, something brought over with the huge Irish immigration (without which, I wouldn't be here I might add). I can understand the raw emotions regarding Hillsborough, no amount of time will ever heal all the wounds of those who lost someone that day, I do believe that the City and the club will move on once all the documents are released though. What does really annoy me are the Liverpool fans who have no connection with that day, other than being Liverpool fans! I had a massive disagreement with a good friend (who wasn't even born when Hillsborough happened) regarding playing on the date. He said no-one outside Liverpool understands etc etc, I simply reminded him that he was born in Coventry and he supports them because they were winning trophies when he was young! I coul have very easily been a Liverpool fan, most of my family support them and when I was 6/7 and getting into football they were still the best in the country. To boo the National Anthem isn't the worst thing in the world, but to try and defend it by bringing out some S*** about the government and Hillsborough etc is more disrespectful than a couple of idiots shouting during a minutes silence.
  24. I too have enjoyed both George Weah's Cousin and leagueoneminus10 over the last couple of years. So much so, and in conjunction with one of my duties at my new job, I felt that now was as good as any to start my own blog. Mainly about Saints, but also about football in general. Come and take a look - let me know what you think. Very early days but I am enjoying it and aim to post a couple of times a week. It will help that we have lots and lots of football this summer to keep me busy... http://marching-back.blogspot.co.uk
  25. When does the season officially start?? From k.o on the 1st game of the season, or when the transfer window opens? If the latter then its Points-deduction-o' clock for Skates!
