  1. I ran with the baton in Cheltenham... The torch went past my childhood home this morning. The entire community was out, celebrating, talking to each other. Everyone had a smile on their faces, even the police outriders got cheered. Plus my 5 month old daughter had her pic with the torch too.
  2. So Henderson goes to West Ham, Ashdown released...are they playing 'Rush Goalie' next season?? Knowing that lot though, I am sure Gianluigi Buffon will be signed on a 9 year £100,000 per week contract in a few weeks!
  3. HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Just when you thought the story (and the thread) was heading off into the sunset, a familiar figure looms from the shadowy corner of the saloon...
  4. Jordan Rhodes, I agree that he has only played in League 1 - but so had Oxlade-Chamberlain and Pilkington. Personally I don't see any reason (other than Huddersfield demanding anything above £4M) why we shouldn't go for him. Yes other clubs might go in for him, but they have a lot more to lose - Everton, for example, aren't going to splash money around on an 'unproven player'. I think we are going to be linked with an awful lot of cr*p over the next few months...If we can start in August with all our key players retained and Jarvis, Davis (Rangers), Rhodes, unknown Italian hardman, CB and in my dreams Buckland (GK) from Brum I think we would be fine for next year!
  5. Isn't Villa injured? A decent bet would be a French striker...
  6. £41,349,647 for staying up! QPR did have a couple more live games which meant more cash so that figure is based on the equal share from the Premier League, Overseas TV Money, your Merit payment (ie where you finish) and 10 live games (the minimum). If Saints succeed next year and stay in the league we can expect that as a minimum payment...quite incredible sums of money.
  7. Going to Kerdiff to watch Team GB v Uruguay (plus the tickets also include the Mexico game) Then got two tickets to watch Beach Volleyball (one Mens match, one Womens match) The torch goes past my house next Thursday too...I am one of the few who is genuinely excited about the Olympics!
  8. We all said it at the time....'Family Club of the Year'!? The thing is, I am not at all shocked by this. How sad is that? I expect we will see some equally bad headlines coming out in the near future, especially if they do go pop. What is really distressing is, as some of the posters underneath both articles have stated, that TBH and his agent will get paid first rather than the Cancer Charity or Kids Charity. Their best chance of getting any of the cash donated is to wait for liquidation and join the free for all. I do feelm sorry for the fans who donated the cash too, they gave some of their hard earned money in full expectation that it would go to the charity - only to find out that the Dirty Skate barstewards kept it. If I were a Pompey supporter this would be the final straw, how can you possibly defend a team who does this???
  9. I agree it was a blanket statement, sorry about that. I would say that most of the Liverpool fans are reasoned and sensible but unfortunately a very vocal minority do let the rest of the club and to a point, the city down. Your defence of them is fair enough, but you must see that they really don't help themselves. An element of false outrage at anything that is a criticism of the city...they was a public outcry when papers indicating that members of the cabinet in the early 80's advocated 'managed decline'. It was 30 years ago for f**** sake! and Maggie shouted those voices down. It was a nothing news story, but it played into the hands of those who like the image of 'everyone is against us'. Liverpool is a fantastic city with lots going for it. Brilliant music scene, incredible architecture, mainly friendly people...it has its share of muppets but everywhere does. I love going back there to see family, but I am glad I don't live there. It is the north after all...
  10. Just to add to this glorious debate about how you aren't allowed to dislike Scousers unless you are related/married/breeding with one (obviously if all three, even better)... Almost all of my Dad's side of the family is from Liverpool and I have to agree with the arguement that they wallow in self pity. It's a Catholic Guilt thing, something brought over with the huge Irish immigration (without which, I wouldn't be here I might add). I can understand the raw emotions regarding Hillsborough, no amount of time will ever heal all the wounds of those who lost someone that day, I do believe that the City and the club will move on once all the documents are released though. What does really annoy me are the Liverpool fans who have no connection with that day, other than being Liverpool fans! I had a massive disagreement with a good friend (who wasn't even born when Hillsborough happened) regarding playing on the date. He said no-one outside Liverpool understands etc etc, I simply reminded him that he was born in Coventry and he supports them because they were winning trophies when he was young! I coul have very easily been a Liverpool fan, most of my family support them and when I was 6/7 and getting into football they were still the best in the country. To boo the National Anthem isn't the worst thing in the world, but to try and defend it by bringing out some S*** about the government and Hillsborough etc is more disrespectful than a couple of idiots shouting during a minutes silence.
  11. I too have enjoyed both George Weah's Cousin and leagueoneminus10 over the last couple of years. So much so, and in conjunction with one of my duties at my new job, I felt that now was as good as any to start my own blog. Mainly about Saints, but also about football in general. Come and take a look - let me know what you think. Very early days but I am enjoying it and aim to post a couple of times a week. It will help that we have lots and lots of football this summer to keep me busy... http://marching-back.blogspot.co.uk
  12. When does the season officially start?? From k.o on the 1st game of the season, or when the transfer window opens? If the latter then its Points-deduction-o' clock for Skates!
  13. Yates' till 6ish Beers on train back to Gloucester Regal (in Gloucester) for one - Got some strange looks from everyone in there, mind you it is a rugby city. Home - where I watched the game again, then watched Football League Show and polished off bottle of Champers while wife went to bed. Suprisingly woke up next day with a clear head, although had no voice!
  14. Plenty of fuel for 'Bestest fans in the World TM' though!
  15. "Didn't I mention...? Oh yeah if you win today Nicola is taking you all to....DisneyWorld!!!" 4 words left...probably just random profanities
  16. Not sure if this has been mentioned on the thread elsewhere, but the new FFP rules that come into affect in 2013/14 season could mean yet more pain for the blue few. Obviously that is reliant on there still being a Portsmouth FC in 2013, but nonetheless if they are unable to get rid of the Chanrai/Gaydamak issue I can't see how they would ever turn a profit
  17. This is the biggest game I can ever remember, bigger than 2003 because defeat although painful didn't affect the club in the way that 2005 v Man Utd did. This is what being a supporters of a club outside of the big 5/6 is all about. Dreams coming true! I have never experienced depression as I did in 2005, nothing has ever come close, definately the worst sporting moment of my life - a win on Saturday would be the best sporting moment of my life!
  18. Hello all, if there is any lovely lovely person out there who has two spare adult tickets, I will be very happy to take them off your hands!!! Spent all saturday on the phone but problems with their systems meant I couldn't get through, then when I finally did - SOLD OUT! Even considered going Hospitality to be there. Hope someone is able to help! Thanks in advance
  19. ....and F*** OFF YOU SKATE B*ST*RDS!!! Could be a fantastic fantastic weekend. Win against Reading and WHAM lose, we are up. Skates fail to win, they are relegated!
  20. Not to worried about Friday, Win and we are nearly up. Draw is a decent result for both us and Reading, defeat is not great but not the end of the world. Would be nice if Brighton get an equaliser though!
  21. Looking at the upcoming fixtures, the Blackpool (A) game looks the biggest test. If we can get 10 points from next 4 games, we may be able to go up against Reading! (On TV, which would be nice!) Otherwise Peterborough away looks the most likely... I am almost at the point of declaring we will go up now, but know that there are still 8 games left and anything can happen
  22. In pub in Gloucester watching rugby....when the third went in I was jumping around like a loon. Unfortunately Wales were being presented with the 6 Nations trophy at the time, so an English bloke jumping around was slightly odd.... Didn't care too much really!
  23. Tbh I didn't care about them until they got promoted - once we are above them I will find it easy not to care again. F*ck 'em!
  24. Forte hat-trick! Johnno Quick is awesome, get him back in the boat Nigel!!!
  25. Adam Lallana, makes Messi look slightly worse than Pele!
