  1. 1. Man Utd - Moyes will get the best out of squad with decent additions likely 2. Chelsea - Return of 'Special one' falls just short 3. Man City - Not enough goals, iffy defence (will win a cup) 4. Arsenal - Will once again do just enough, Wenger will leave at the end of season 5. Liverpool - Will be very close come the end of season 6. Spurs - Bale to leave in January to play for Utd 7. Swansea - Investment in summer, decent squad 8. SAINTS - Pushing for Europa league, depends on cup exploits may finish higher 9. Villa - One year on, only if they keep Benteke 10. Newcastle - Hangover from last season but late push will see them mid table 11. West Brom - Mixed campaign, decent outside bet for a cup 12. Everton - will lose Baines/Fellaini in summer, struggle until a late pick up in form 13. West Ham - Carroll injured mid way through season, goals dry up but just enough to stay up 14. Norwich - Mixed form, weaker teams in division 15. Cardiff - some experienced players, early season form gives them boost 16. Stoke - Hoooooooooof, stay up because some teams can't defend 17. Fulham - Stay up on last day of season 18. Sunderland - PDC found out by December, not enough quality to be saved 19. Hull - Poor team, struggle all season 20. Watford/Palace - Found out early, no money to save the situation (down by early April)
  2. I can't see this happening unless part of a deal for Liverpool to sign Shaw....which won't happen either
  3. I don't care if Martin Samuels or any other 'Football writer' has an opinion about Cortese or Saints, I know my own mind and unless NC does something incredibly stupid (which unlike a few on here, I don't believe he has done) or no longer has the confidence of the Owners or staff/players at the club I will support him and be one of his biggest supporters. The only interesting thing is that we are now being written about in the National press on a regular basis and talked as an ambitious and successful club
  4. Ahhh 10 years ago! Finished my first exam at Uni in the morning (which I suprisingly passed despite having no sleep and already a little drunk). Then hopped on train from Swansea to Cardiff. Didn't have a ticket, got offered one for £350 - but couldn't afford it...Spent most of the build up going from pub to pub with a collection of Saints fans I picked up along the way, a couple from the train, a couple from uni etc. Watched the game in the Prince of Wales, don't remember a lot about it tbh - I know it wasn't the most exciting game ever, but was sure Brett was going to score when he got put through (great save by Seaman) and then in the last minute Beattie heading straight into Cole on the line!!!! Didn't speak a word until I got back to Swansea, Arsenal fans on the train moaning that they had only won the cup and that they should have smashed us, I am not a violent person but that brought me very very close. When back in Swansea, decided to walk into town and then get a bus back to the Student village - got three free pints from total strangers offering condolences and a discounted bus ride too. Finally walked into Student bar at about 10 in the evening and got given a free pitcher of Snakebite... Next morning had the hangover from hell and a week later split up with my ex. She wasn't happy that I didn't go to a meal with her American housemate who happened to be leaving the next day... All in all an incredible day but I still haven't watched the final again.
  5. Thank f*** for that!
  6. Swindon away in 2009 - Just before Pardew was given some cash to buy in some actual footballers, rather than the absolute dross we were left with after relegation (with the exceptions of Lallana and Morgan). Also remember 2,000+ Saints fans gesturing to Pardew that a substitution may be required, preferably someone who has the ability to score a goal -we had Rasiak and Saganowski on the bench Bristol Rovers 2009 - FA Cup 1st Round - 3 nil up, courtesy of David Connelly and Antonio, getting soaked by a torrential downpour (We're the wet side/We're the dry side) and then everyone bricking it as Rovers pulled two late goals back. Bristol Rovers 2010 - Chasing Huddersfield into the playoff positions, conceding an early goal only to batter them 5-1. Bloke standing behind me won a wedge after sticking £10 on the correct scoreline and Lambert to score. Morgan scored his first Saints goal (a screamer) and Walsall managing to confuse everyone 2 nil down to the terriers with 10 minutes to go, 3-2 up into injury time and then lose 4-3. Think we beat Yeovil on the following saturday thanks to a late late late Lee Barnard header only for us to draw against Oldham and bugger it all up! Walsall 2011 - Battered em' for the whole game, ex-Citeh fat boy Jon Macken scores and we somehow get nothing. Danny N'Guessen subbed as a sub and communal drinking with the Walsall supporters before the game. Mainly remembered for the bed wetting antics by some on here afterwards...those who were at the game knew it was just one of those days...think we then embarked on the longest unbeaten run in the clubs history!
  7. As a Gloucester rugby season ticket holder I am delighted by the announcement - 4 games at Kingsholm including Scotland, Argentina and Tonga. Gutted that Saints and the city of Southampton won't get to join with the fun though. The games will be played in September so I would imagine the restrictions of Premier League and (hopefully) European football may have done for SMS... on the subject of rugby supporters, I have never felt threatened or under attack while watching rugby. Unfortunately I can't say the same while watching Saints. Being able to have a beer or three in the stands while mixing with opposing supporters with no worry that you are going to get attacked is a nice way to spend an afternoon!
  8. link?
  9. I remember Man City v Stoke back in 98 were both relegated to Div 3 (the skates saving themselves on the last day).
  10. Have to say based on money earned against talent and effort put in by said player - Olivier Bernard must be up there as the worst. However if you were to just work on the basis of actually the sh*test player, has to be Pulis. His wikipedia page on games played etc is laughable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Pulis I am a week older than him, it makes me angry to think that I could have earned just as much as him (probably more, as I am sure I am as good, if not better than him anyway). Just for the fact that he was born I hope we relegate Stoke on the final day!
  11. Get in Saints, wonderful performance and brilliant win!
  12. Oldham winning 2-0, meaning they will go 8 points clear of the Skates with two games in hand. Bury currently drawing, a win would mean P*mpey they will be bottom.
  13. If we stay up he will stay, if we get relegated he won't. Judging by what I have seen of him, he will be in the England squad for the World Cup in 2014. He is that good. Cole has been very lucky with injuries but he is getting older, and his form is certainly not as good as previous years. Baines is an excellent player but I remember issues around home sickness etc. Even if not true there does seem to be a perception that this is a problem. Shaw is one of the best young players I have even seen, he is much more advanced than Theo, Ox or even Bale - if he continues his development he will be a world beater, I just hope he remains our world beater
  14. What annoys me more than anything is that it perpetuates the idea that football supporters are brainless thugs. We all know that there are idiots in every walk of life, but time and time again some drunken chav lets us all down! I doubt that if the same period of silence had been held at Twickenham last week, you would have heard anything other than total silence. I do agree that these 'minutes/periods of silence' are getting too frequent, but in this particular case I think it was fair enough - whether to commerate the Brazilian Club fire (If it had been in the UK, there would have been uproar if the they hadn't done something), or to remember Bobby Moore.
  15. Once again I take immense joy in explaining to colleagues, friends, family and total strangers of the twists and turns of this epic saga.... Obviously I take a lot of pleasure in it being the Skates that are involved in this, but that has now become secondary in how I view this all. The fact that hundreds of businesses, run perfectly well but struggling under the weight of the current economic climate have failed - excepted that it wasn't meant to be/pay off who they can and put their hands up and said 'sorry, we just can't go on like this'. I hope many of these people will dust themselves off and try again, maybe learning from their mistakes and building a successful business next time around. However the barstewards down the road have cheated and lied, not paid a single penny of the £120,000,000+ owed to creditors and all the while whinged and moaned about it being unfair! They don't deserve any sympathy, they don't deserve any help - they should rot and die, but only after Saints get one more opportunity to beat them, humilating them and for one last time show why our club, despite our occasional problems, is a beacon of light in comparison to the Skates and their dirty insignificant existance.
  16. Seriously how hard is it to shut your gob for 1 minute? Plenty of numpties at England v Brazil shouting their mouths off. Disgraceful...
  17. I have said it before but......Ha f*ckin' Ha!!!
  18. Sorry but that has just led to several people looking at me as if I am bonkers! Burst out laughing in the middle of the office. This picture plus the Chris Huhne joke nearly put me over the edge!
  19. I always assume the worst when playing against the big clubs. My new tactic is to avoid all coverage until last 5 minutes, then see the damage. It means I don't p off the wife/wake the baby/annoy the neighbours with loud swearing. Probably a regulation 3-0 defeat, hopefully with no injuries - rest up Ricky for the main event on Saturday.
  20. 2-0 to Notts County...... Lolz!
  21. Pompey losing! Haha haha
  22. To be fair, if I was a young Brazilian flair player I would have to seriously think about leaving Inter (one of the biggest clubs in the world). Despite some of our delusions of grandeur we aren't anywhere near the level of Liverpool in terms of pull. If he does sign, it will be probably because we offer him a decent deal and there are relevant clauses if we get relegated etc. I still think we may get him, but it will drag out rather than be sorted quickly.
  23. Understandably a lot of people are upset and angry about NA getting the boot. I am one of them, however people suggesting that we as supporters should boycott, boo or undermine the manager are wrong. If people want to show their support for NA, may I suggest sending a letter. Cortese will no doubt have understood that this decision will be unpopular with a lot of fans and I am sure some will make their feelings known on Monday night. However I just hope that after maybe 5 minutes we get behind the team and let them get on with keeping the club in the Premier league. Also Hypo, if you actually want the club to be relegated then I suggest you go and support the jokers down the road! A ridiculous statement which is obviously posted in the heat of the moment. I am not defending Cortese, if we do get relegated then the blame will clearly lie at the feet of the Don. But even then, I will continue to support the club and the players.
  24. I agree, but wouldn't it be nice for Ricky to travel to Brazil in the summer! Sir Ricky Lambert, hero of the Maracana??? I know I am in the realms of fantasy... Shaw would be a good bet for the next set of qualifiers though.
  25. F****** BEAUTY! GET THE F*** IN! £5 on its way to me from Chelsea supporting colleague. He was so confident, he gave me the draw! Love it....shame we couldn't have nicked it. God I love this club!
