  1. My Great Grandfather fought at Jutland. He joined up on his 16th birthday (14th August 1914) and was still classed as 'Boy' at the battle. Brave men and boys who helped win the war, although not obvious at the time. The blockade ensured that Germany would always sue for peace.
  2. Isn't Ron in Portugal... http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/673431/Newcastle-transfer-news-Andros-Townsend-spotted-plane-Premier-League-gossip-rumours 2+2 = 5 probably, but maybe not as obvious as it would appear...
  3. Vardy has to start centrally with Kane. Alli, Drinkwater and Dier in the middle. I would play 5-3-2 allowing the wingbacks to bomb on and means Dier can fill in if needed. The only problem is that Hodgson is only taking three CB's!!! And one of them is John Stones (who is a a walking mistake). Love how the media have started to build the idea that Alli has an aggression problem. The 'foul' given against him in the second half was a joke, but both Tyldsley and Glenda started whining on about it. Personally think we will do alright in the Euro's. Yes our defence looks flaky but I do think we will score goals. Can easily see us getting to Semi's due to the expanded nature of the tournament and we could play our way into confidence. Although I am an eternal optimist. Already looked to see how easy it is to get to Solna in May...
  4. As a once in a lifetime opportunity type thing would absolutely love to be involved in something like this. I was lucky to play against Saints Legends at Andover in 2011 and that was incredible! I remember reading about the last time this happened and was very jealous.
  5. Looking to go to this and take my Dad, I need a membership number (someone who has bought a ticket this year). Anybody want to help?
  6. Guess you weren't at Swindon in the first year of League One then??? Seriously guys get a grip FFS! Yes it has been poor and I do question the tactics, but I am not writing off us as relegation fodder just yet. Even for this site tonights thread is pretty ridiculous. I will be gutted if we go out, but on to Sunday and Norwich and we start again. We keep VW, we keep Mane and we bring in the extra couple of players (CB and creative midfielder) that we all agree we need.
  7. Spoken to a few of my Chelski supporting mates and they all say that he is a good player, who should have been given more of a chance after his injury. But since Matic has come back there wasn't really any place for him, plus he was a AVB player which apparantly has been an issue for some players since the 'Special One' returned. One of my mates did actually say that is pretty difficult to track who is doing what and where sometimes due to the sheer number of players on loan. 23 according to wiki!...with a further 26 in the u21 or reserves (inc. Romeu)
  8. They were very noisy and happily jumped around like loons all night. Seemed very good natured, and I also noticed both sets of fans applauding each other at the end. Got the feeling it was quite a novel experience for everybody, plus there seemed to be a lot of kids in attendance which made it a little more timid (in comparison to a big game against a Premier League team). I am sure all those going over next week will behave, and do the club proud.
  9. After we win our first European game since 1981 and take a giant stride towards the next round, over in Eastbourne... http://www.ebfc.co.uk/news.php?viewmessage=354
  10. We already have replaced him
  11. Depending on the loan deal, it is much the same as selling him. Wages paid for (or at least a good chunk) means we can use that money to better effect elsewhere (say extra for Toby, should we get to that point)
  12. No problem is Morgan goes for £25m, as others have said - I would be annoyed if he ended up at Spurs or Liverpool. He has given everything he can to the club during his time here and will go to Arsenal with many supporters blessing. If it allows Saints to reinvest and buy two players with the money then great, personally Krychowiak and Imbula would be excellent signings to complement the squad and immediately strengthen the 1st XI.
  13. We often focus on the mistakes and errors when watching England. Re-watched the game last night and we were the better side, controlled the match for long periods and created at least 3 good chances in the first half (Sterling twice and Rooney) which we should have scored. A couple of defensive errors and we are 1-0 down at half time. The 2nd half was even more one sided and Rooney should have had a hat-trick. Although Gibbs got caught under the ball for the Slovenia equaliser, it was a good goal. Clearly England are not at the same level as Germany or Argentina at the moment, but they have enough talent and ability and I believe we have stumbled on a formation that suits (4-3-3). We should be looking to be a team about pace upfront, and we need to sort out CB as I think GK and fullbacks are fine (provided you play full backs there and not Phil Jones). England need one more win to qualify and because of the increased size of the competition next year, I can easily see England getting to the QF's - and then it depends on the draw. By the way, do you think Belgium are having meltdowns this weekend after losing to the Welsh?
  14. ...and a three year old shooting himself after getting hold of Mummy's gun. Tragic accident, but if you take away the gun it doesn't happen!
  15. Wasn't Middlesbrough used as the template for the opening scene from Blade Runner...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaR5wVL9x2I Apart from the flying cars, pretty accurate really!
  16. I agree, but I think a lot of why Rasiak doesn't get much credit is that most, if not all of the players from that time are seen as transient and were only there to pick up their pay cheques. It always strikes me how badly managed that team was under Burley - we should have been pushing for automatic promotion that season, but scraped into the playoffs. The quality and style of football wasn't great either, but that 2006/07 season is forgotten because of the chaos and horror that followed. Back on the subject of this thread, what is the latest on Austin - Talksport seemed to be saying he was nailed on for Newcastle Utd (while trying to suggest that West Ham would be good because it was in London.)
  17. I am sure read something last year about boxing day fixtures and the police not wanting local derbies. The only local game last year was Arsenal v QPR. I always think you want to play the promoted teams early, before they have had a chance to get up to speed with the Premier League. Bournemouth is going to have significance (whether we care or not) at any point in the season, again I would rather get it out of the way relatively early - preferably not after a Europa league game. We will probably find that we are on TV quite a bit to start the season so expect fixtures to change dates and times...
  18. £25 per season is imho good value. I am a Gloucester Rugby season ticket holder so I have to fit games around Gloucester etc, this season it has been quite difficult as most of the fixtures clashed and I can't get down for midweek games due to family. As I said, personally I am happy with this as it will hopefully allow me to get tickets to some away games I wouldn't normally try for (Liverpool, Utd, Citeh, Arsenal etc) and mean I have better chance at the local away games like WBA and Villa. I would love a season ticket at Saints but can't really afford it, so this is a happy medium in the short term.
  19. I am happy with this and £25 is not a huge price to pay as a one off. Plus if it means I can get tickets to away games (which I haven't been able to since back in the Prem) I will be very pleased.
  20. I see someone has already mentioned it, but now Twitchy is on Twitter all I can say is....Troll away boys, troll away!
  21. Unfortunately in light of very recent events and the sad death of Jerry Collins - I met him in Gloucester on my 'local' stag night back in 2009. Absolute gent and if you want to get a true idea of the type of man that he was, read this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/2324673/All-Black-gives-Barnstaple-second-XV-the-edge.html RIP Jerry!
  22. Remember that night - it was embarrassing. Compared to the second time we played them when Chaplow banged in a goal just before half time!
  23. Met Matt Le Tiss and it was everything I wanted it to be...(not in a sexual way though). Frank Worthington in Menorca airport - top bloke Nicest bloke out there considering is new found position married to royalty is Mike Tindall. Absolute gentleman and top bloke - most rugby players are to be fair. With the notable exception of Gavin Henson who is a complete W*****!
