What sad news - well remember the flashiness of Worthington and what an entertainer. That season with Saints was marvelous - it's a crying shame that so many players from that era (and more recently) have suffered from dementia. Worthington Dave Watson Kevin Moore Chris Nicholl The list goes on.....
-
Couldn't really care less if he stays or goes. He was brilliant last season but this season and his first at Saints have been OK but no more than that. In recent months he has looked a shadow of last years player and no matter what anyone says, he gets more injuries than most. It's not worth keeping players who don't want to be here.

Having had chance to forget about todays abysmal performance, this is not all on Ralph. This is, essentially, the same group that has been crap for years under Puel, Pellegrino and Hughes before Ralph. While Ralph's tactics and strategy are questionable, the players need to own this - they are gutless, spineless and lacking in any form of pride. With little to no investment Ralph's hands are tied behind him and who on earth could get a better response from this steaming pile of crap?
-
Embarrassing performance, Ralph has absolutely no idea how to turn this round. We play so slowly and ponderously and everything is sideways, backwards to the wings where we give it away. Absolutely no cutting edge, urgency or confidence. Ralph looks very, very stupid after his 'cleverness' midweek. We are in trouble.

Truly shocking display. No heart, no guile, no backbone and Bednarek and Bertand have been shockingly bad. How many shots 2nd half - 1? Slow, sideways, backwards, sideways, to the wing where we give it away. The manager owns this - in the same way he got the plaudits at the start he should be hammered for the terrible side we are now.

Anyone starting to look nervously at the table?

I started this thread very much tongue in cheek. However, I am starting to get somewhat worried. We are spineless, have no heart and a manager that cannot adapt. We are, rightly, bottom of the form table and Hassenhuttl trying to be clever against City has completely backfired. A very winnable set of games starting with Sheff Utd and we still screw it up -
Who on earth thinks its a good idea to give Bertrand a new contract. He is terrible now. Saints, in general, are terrible. Hassenhuttl is not as great a manager as we hoped and has us playing absolute dross. If we played like this under Hughes and Pellegrino they would have been, rightly, slaughtered. We offer nothing defensively, mid or attack. All so incredibly slow, ponderous and with no cutting edge. Other teams have sussed us out and Hassenhuttl has not adapted.

Look OK in the middle of the park but terrible at the back. Got to tighten it up 2nd half - Brighton all over us down the left. Minamino providing no cover for the very slow Bertrand. Still in it and still hopeful we'll win this
-
What a bunch of hysterical t**ts blaming Forster! Bertrand was disgusting for the goal: never jumped and turned away from the ball and gave Dunk a free header that Forster really had no chance of saving, especially as the ball bounced right in front of him and was traveling like a rocket. Right now, Hassenhuttl's "cleverness" in midweek is looking really dumb. Saints have been garbage (again) in this first half. And having said that, Brighton defend awfully and Che on his streak!
-
Aside from terrible defending (what's new there?) I thought Saints acquitted themselves well and a lot of the one touch fluid passing and movement seems to be returning. Hopefully we can finish the season strongly and strengthen in the summer.
-
WTF - what the hell is Ralph doing? Tella is young and can handle multiple games in a week whereas Redmond is just crap. WTF is Bednarek doing playing RB (unless we are going 3 at the back) and why the hell is Forster on the bench? Totally random selection picker tonight obviously!
-
Bertrand is complete pants and has been for some time. He's given a free pass because of his history at Saints but he has slowed right down, struggles to cross and his defending is poor.

Anyone starting to look nervously at the table?
washsaint replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
Looking at the table, unfortunately it now looks like a straight shootout between: Sheff Utd (pretty much down) WBA (pretty much down) Fulham Newcastle Brighton Burnley Saints Unbelievable after the start of the season that we are grouping Saints in with the rest but I truly think there is a danger we could get dragged in as we are absolutely terrible and even if we only need 2 wins where are they coming from? We have had 14 opportunities to get a win and have 1 in that time. And we have 12 games left. If we don;t have the points on the board in the next 5-6 games we are in real trouble. -

If anyone doesn;t think we haven't sleep walked into trouble I pity them. 1 win in 14 and what, 7 points? We should be OK but difficult to see where goals are coming from (how many goals scored in the last 14, less than the 7 points I am sure?) and we have a gutless team with a manager who is too stubborn to change it up. Seriously, what was the point of bringing Watts on after 88 minutes and leaving the indescribably hopeless Redmond on for the previous 87? Thank god we had the points on the board early - without that start we'd be down with Sheffield Utd. -
Serious questions have to start being asked of the manager now. There were only 2 players out from the corresponding home fixture (KWP and Romeu) so to blame injuries is disingenuous at best. You have a RB on the bench and play a CB at RB. You have 2 or 3 young CMs on the bench and play Armstrong out of position. You have Tella, who has looked far more promising than Redmond or Adams, left on the bench. You have a cowardly team playing as poorly as under Pellegrino and Hughes with no attacking verve and yet no mixing it up with changes in tactics or intent. Imagine the outrage, rightly, if those 2 clowns had us playing like we are now? 1 win in 14 says it all - clueless.
-
What an embarrassment our refs are! Mason is atrocious
-
Watching Fulham completely outplay Everton today and one Harrison Reed looking outstanding, is it time to start nervously looking at the table as Fulham look a pretty good team, and have done for some time? Their finishing has held them back (like Saints) but they look very good today. Obviously the answer to the original question is 'no' but I'm sure plenty on here will say 'yes'. 35 points is probably enough this year which means 6 points from our final 15 games. That being said I predict 0 points from our next 3 with the way we are playing. Just hope Forster comes back in goal and gives some confidence and stability to the back line. We overachieved at the start of the season and are now underachieving. But it does look like we will struggle to match our points tally last season.
-
Wasn;t that good. He was utter s***e
-
More concerning, for me, than the losses is the complete lack of creativity in the side. SO slow in possession, no movement and the final ball is shocking. Add in every decision seeming to go against us and confidence must be rock bottom. Difficult to see where the next win is coming from right now but it will - we are not as bad as we appear right now, just as we were not as good as we appeared early in the season. Still on an FA Cup run so all is not lost with this season
-
Don't be so bloody ridiculous! Ralph has some severe limitations (as we are seeing) but who else would come in and take on this mentally fragile group and get different results? This is a poor team that overachieved for half the season and are now underachieving.
-
LOL at muppets slating McCarthy for not being better at saving penalties! I don't personally rate him and think Forster should be in there but to blame him for not being better at saving penalties is ridiculous. Take a closer look at Ralph for the blame game. 2nd half we are nearly always terrible and on the back foot. Taking Armstrong off?
-
The reality is that Ings had a very poor injury record (very unfortunate) at Liverpool, was poor first season for us, outstanding last season and beginning of this season and poor since. You seriously suggesting that a top 4 club will come in for him? If they do, you think he will be a starter?
-
Who the hell is going to buy him on his current form? Same for Bertrand. Both have been mediocre recently and their body language is appalling.
-
We have big issues at the club - the players are mentally so weak and our play is so predictable and slow with no cutting edge. Spineless, gutless, pathetic and I donl;t think we would have scored if Newcastle had 6 players on the pitch. Utterly shameful display.
-
Utterly disgusting, spineless display - Redmond, Bertrand, Stephens, Ings, Bednarek, McCarthy were all beyond awful and an utter disgrace to the club. Bertrand and Ings wanting bumper paydays? They are both awful and have been for months.
