RB/CB - Martin Cranie is available on a free. Don't think we should pass him over. Never miund 'not prem quality' - he's on a free, and still young enough to improve.

An amusing and yet informative and clearly relevant discussion. Like many it seems, I also can't justify a ST as I work out of the area and struggle to make evening games. Also my son has just turned 17, has a girlie, and doesn't want to come to SMS every other Saturday when he can be out with the girlie or his mates. I think we can explain to him he would COMPETE with Kelvin for the next two years and then be viewed the NUMBER ONE keeper after that. I would hope Nige would give him at least 10 games, maybe more, in order to prove himself. Sadly, using Bart for cup games only against inferior opposition meant he wasn't prepared for the league games when KD was injured and he came in, with frightening results (the Blackpool game?). The second choice keeper needs to play enough to hone his match fitness. I don't know much about Butland, but I hope we can sign a GK soon, be it Butland, Gordon or Green.

Easy for me to say this as its not my money paying for him .... but this is one position we can't play a cool poker hand. £3M is a bit low for a goalkeeper with 20 years ahead of him. I would offer more and put something like £3M down and £2M in addons. Let's get this deal closed if we can. By all means, play it cool and slow on outfield deals, but this one, wrap it up while everyone's focused on the Euros.
