Burley sacked after just two games
the saint in winchester replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
Are you lot suggesting George Burley had a drink problem? -
Yeah. my son read me MLT's tweet earlier. I said that NA had said team news only released to the press at 2pm Sat, but maybe the players know the team already. Not a good idea for Gazza to be releasing that info .. but hey ho. Actually support giving him a go. If NA has decided to play Gazza, so be it. If it doesn't work out then it should add some urgency to the need to get in Boruc or Gordon.
-
Get him back here. He's good enough as backupin the Prem and first choice in cup games.
-
So, game 5 and its a MUST WIN game. Crazy to call the fifth game of the season a 'must win' but I fear we must win this one to instil confidence into the team, the fans, the TV pundits et al.

Hey, leave Flyer alone. He has always been respectful to us and insightful. He's a guest, be nice to him. Getting back to the goalkeeper debate ..... I'm not familiar with his work, but it sounds like Artur Boruc would be a very good option and one we should look to pursue. Everton can only offer him a place on the bench. We can offer him the place in the starting 11. Davis will get some games, but I would offer Boruc the place as first choice keeper. As Gordon has been away for so long, I could only offer him the chance to fight it out with Davis.

Saints 2 Man United 3 - Post Match Reactions
the saint in winchester replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Yes, I had the same reaction on seeing the subs bench. This was a game we were likely to need fresh defenders for, yet the bench was loaded up with spare attackers. This is the first time I have been concerned with Adkins' game plan. I hope for a more balanced bench in future. -
Saints 2 Man United 3 - Post Match Reactions

That pretty much covers all the points I was going to make. For 60 mins our midfield outplayed them. Never seen Morgan play so well - MotM. All four inc AL were superb. But then, they ran out of energy. I don't criticise Mr Adkins as a rule, but I was mystified with sending on a replacement front three. Yeah, fresh legs, defending from the front - I saw the interview. We just have no depth in midfield without Cork, Chaplow etc. No cover at LB for Fox, only Seabourne on the bench to defend. I would sooner have brought him on than more attackers who didn't get involved. And, sorry, the videos of Zambian fella were of a pacey winger. They seem to have sent over another Guly! Some bulky bloke. We have an excess of attackers and inadequate defenders and defending midfielders. -
Presumably with the magnitude of the investment this will be a press conference event to unveil the player, rather than a simple announcement on the website? Anyone know if any rooms have been booked at the Potters Heron??

Stevenage 1 Saints 4 : Reactions

Gazza Frazer - Stephens- Seaborne - Shaw Chaplow - Hammond - JWP De Ridder - T.Lee - Puncheon -
You're getting pelters, but I agree with YOU! My preferred set up has Lambo playing behind 2 of J-Rod, Sharp and Lee. 4-3-1-2 for me please.

Michu! Swansea make a £4M profit inside 2 weeks. We get a goal scorer. Everyone's a winner. Lovely jubbly.

Southampton 0 - 2 Wigan - Post Match Reaction
the saint in winchester replied to Baj's topic in The Saints
Well, we were hopeless today. Only Lallana and Clyne get a pass grade from me. Everyone else, oh dear. But credit to Wigan - they were effective, especially with Maloney man-marking Schneiderlin. Agree that J-Rod is playing out of position and Tadanari needs to play in that position on the left. But overall, we looked a championship side today playing a Prem side. We need to upgrade to Prem players this week and release a few. -

I'm certainly NOT a troll, Guan. Have over 1500 posts and saints fan for 45 years! I don't say these guys are the best our money can buy, far from it, but I'm always on the lookout for a bargain. We are short of players with premiership experience, and we could have taken them on a one year contract, and then been free of them if they offered nothing. Ben Haim will likely go back to Israel, and Kitson back to Cambridge, where they are held in high regard. Yes, I hope we bring in players better than them, but they would be a 'placeholder' until then. -
OK people, calm down. If your answer is going to be "I wouldn't touch those Pompey ****sticks with a barge pole" then please, there's no need to post here. Here we have two premiership players available for nada. We need a CB. Fact! I know TBH has been on silly money down the road, but bearing in mind he has received a pay off, maybe we could offer him something in line with our wage structure, say £20k/wk. There aren't many players who could play deputy to Lambert - playing the same way, so no change in our style. I believe Kitson could! Again, I'd make an offer and see if he's interested. I assume he lives down here, maybe kids in school, so I think we have leverage. Come on, people, what do you say? And not a flat "we don't want Pompey rejects here." Alan Ball, Alan McLoughlin ... we have had them before.

Blackpool report Saints over Phillips approach
the saint in winchester replied to SuperMikey's topic in The Saints
That was my thought too! Yah, we've made an approach for Matt Phillips! It is Matt, I take it, not Kevin????? -
If someone with more PC nous than me can find the thread when we signed him.... there will be comments on there bearing my name showing I was deliriously happy that we signed him. And I'm saddened that we are letting him go. Very good player. Worked exceptionally well with Lallana. I'm not sure Fox is any better, really I'm not, but Nigel picks the team, and I assume he thinks he is and that he has someone waiting to join us (Olsson, maybe.)

This Channel 5 summariser clearly knows little about us. "Lambert doesn't run" . (facepalm) -
Puncheon, it seems - he was our fizz.

What does NA do about Jason Puncheon ???
the saint in winchester replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Oh what a negative lot you all are! Yes, he has an ego; he thinks he is Premiership class. Well, guess what, this club has made it to the Premiership. How about give him the benefit of the doubt? He's capable of playing both wide and centre. and we need wide players right now. So unless we sign a really good winger, for me, we have to keep him playing and motivated (aka hungry!). If his attitude or his performances start to stink, he won't get a game! His loss. Until then, welcome back to the fold, JP. -
oh man, I wish I had known - I would have popped down.
