Teach them the Southampton way, so they're crap when they go anywhere else! It's the future...

On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you with saints at the moment?
SNSUN replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
8. Had big money signings Ramirez and Osvaldo done the jobs well that they were brought in expensively to do, then arguably we could have reached the next level already that Everton have aspired to. Still, it's good times to be a Saints fan, whatever happens in the summer. -
A kick up the arse from a right foot hurts just as much as a kick up the arse from a left. IMO.
-
Keeping Pochettino IMO helps us keep the players. However, if it had to be one OR the other, then the players staying put wins every time.

Chelsea openly admit to playing a weakened team on sunday

INsanity! So much for not encouraging home grown youth in this country... :-) -
Keeping Pochettino is obviously job 1. Ok, he wants to see the season out, fine, but the second that full time whistle blows against Utd, hand the bumper contract to him and give him a couple of days to decide. If he wants out, it needs to be sorted as soon as possible and a new manager found ASAP. Sorting that out before player ins/outs is key. I hope Pochettino stays, IMO it's our best chance of keeping most of the jewels, but whatever happens, Flash is right, it needs to be done swiftly. Please God don't let this become another summer of turmoil...

Ive said it before, but if selling just one player means we can keep the rest, then IMO for the money we'd get for him, that player would be Shaw. In an ideal world we'd keep them all and strengthen but as long as we can hold on to Lallana, Morgan and Lovren it'd be a result.

Mmm, table of how happy fans are of their home kit? We must be near the relegation zone in that one! (Cardiff bottom.)
-
Is there any kind of table that would have us in 17th place? For Dalek's piece of mind. Perhaps the most foreigners used since November 23rd 2013? :-)

MNF Team of the Season - Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher
SNSUN replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Gary Neville has it spot on IMO. Would JRod make the bench though I wonder? -
Pronounced wrong in French class and you could be arrested... :-)

This thread reminds me of when we lost our family Golden Retriever 'Max' in 2002. We'd had him from a puppy in 1990 when I was 9. Such a lovely dog, so placid, so loyal, so obedient that he became a PAT dog for the elderly. Aged 12 though the vet discovered a massive tumour which was too big to operate on so he had to be put down. The night before he was scheduled at the vets, I slept on the sofa next to him as he could no longer climb the stairs. I fed him some sausage roll, which he ate despite not having eaten anything for a couple of days. Eventually I fell asleep. I was awoken the next morning by the front door smashing open against the wall, and my dad running into the lounge in floods of tears before burying his head in my duvet. Sob after sob after sob. I'd never seen my Dad like that before, he was a Police Sergeant at the time and I'd rarely ever seen him show his emotions, aside from a comical lighthearted demeanour. Max had gone. Naturally the female members of the family were distraught but I hadn't expected it from my Dad. I didn't cry. I was sad, sure, but it was nothing compared to what my Dad went through. It was weird that he reacted in a completely different way to me. He was always so closed off with his emotions until the day that dog died. This situation repeated itself this year when we lost Max's replacement Oscar to the vet's needle, Dad inconsolable and me largely unfazed by the incident. I can only think that I'm more detached from the dogs than he. (Although in Oscars case I hadn't lived there for the last 5 years of his life, but I was still a frequent visitor.) Perhaps it'll be different one day if I get my own dog rather than it being a family dog.

We're talking Saints, not Pompey! FWIW I think we'll finish 8th. Newcastle's run in is tougher than ours and they're bang out of form. And, we're just a bit too far ahead of the other two.
-
Simple question, where do you think we'll finish in the league? 8th, 9th, 10th or 11th? (Or 'other' if you think Utd will capitulate or Hull will win all their 5 games...)
-
If that's the most we can get then it's fine for a player that has very little future at our club. However I think Saints will be holding out for more. £7 million could fund a decent replacement striker. Some transfers are hits, some are misses. We don't have a good record of buying expensive, we seem to be better at buying bargains.
-
Let's see Westwood try and ****** on that...
-
Congrats on the nominations guys. Proud.
-
That was impressive, especially for a centre back. Pahars vs Stam for me... :-)
-
Adrian Durham was arguing today on TalkSport who was the better player, Walcott or Bale. While I don't think it's much of an argument who is better, Bale clearly IMO, it was a pleasant feeling to know that both players started life at our club.
-
I care about Shaw leaving, I don't want it to happen as we should be able to keep all our key players, but if selling Shaw is what it takes to keep all the others, it would be a small price to pay IMO. Left backs can be replaced. Decent centre backs are hard to find so losing Lovren would hurt, Morgan was one of the best midfielders last season, and Lallana, well irreplaceable. Selling Shaw for £30 million, and offloading Osvaldo and possibly Ramirez, would provide enough finances to really strengthen the side. A GK, CB, AM and possibly even 2 strikers are needed already. Add a left back and another AM to that and we will need to spend a lot of money in the summer. I can't see us blowing big money in the summer on one player though...

I'm 33 and an awful lot of those apply to me. I'm old before my time. And I don't even have a mortgage yet...

I'd be all like "Oi, Di Matteo, I respect that you had a difficult job in following Pochettino, after his appointment by Spurs, but did you HAVE to sell Cork? 'Spect on keeping Morgan, Dejan, Luke and Adz, but not signing anyone was proper stupid. You still got 2 weeks of the transfer window, get it sorted!"
