Saints 4 P'Boro 4 - Post Match Reaction
Chicken With A Banjo replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Weird game because of the wind. Impossible to judge the team on this performance. -
I don't want a sponsor ruining the shirt ever again.

Guly rumoured to cost close to 1 million. chaplow's will have been paid handsomely to walk away from his contract. Lallana's 4.5 year contract won't have come cheap. How can people claim were not spending money. Rediculous.

AOC Transfer Speculation Thread
Chicken With A Banjo replied to landford.saint's topic in The Saints
It is in the club's interests. If they wish to attract the next Oxlade Chamberlain coming through, they will portray themselves as a club that isn't entirely motivated by greed. One that looks out for the interests of the individual. Sure they will want to get a good wedge, but being greedy won't help them in the long term. -
See he's managing a bald Andrejs Perepļotkins there now.
-
Agreed. Furthermore he's not as clever as Iain Dowie or Barry Horne.
-
There is still time for him to settle. Your comments are needlessly premature.
-
Last season he had a fine season. Was captain for a while, and we tended to have our worst performances when one of either Hammond or schneiderlin was missing. He's not suddenly rubbish.

20k per week, pay as you play, free transfer would just about be a reasonable deal I reckon.

Pardew is waiting for the premiership clubs to announce their 25 man squad, which needs to be done for the start of September. This will produce the "movement" in the market that he has mentioned he is waiting for, previously. Premiership players may become available, or premiership players will move to championship with the trickle down effect of making championship players available. This is what he means when he says he could go out and get the best player available at the current time or he can wait and get the best player available a bit later. What is so hard for people to fathom about this strategy exactly? I also suspect we will still get Antonio, but don't want to pay what Reading are asking. So we're taking the risk that they will start to panic as the deadline gets closer.

Pretty sure you're wrong as we recently pocketed wonga from a sell on following JVD's move to Wolves.
-
I'm pretty sure the reason he hardly played last season is that he broke his leg in pretty much the first game he played after leaving Saints. I would have him back.
-
the most annoying thing for me is the number of clicks to get back to the thread list when you get to the bottom of a threads page has increased. That's not progress. I don't pay though so my opinion isn't valuable.

My memory of last transfer window was that Mirror got a lot of things right regarding our transfer dealings. -

Pardew and board to meet Thursday now...?
Chicken With A Banjo replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
Telegraph have now latched onto the story. Nothing new to add though. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/leagueone/southampton/7717227/Alan-Pardews-future-as-Southampton-manager-hanging-in-the-balance.html On top of the failure to make the playoffs I have suspicions that Pardew isn't as comitted to Saints as Cortese would like. From memory Pardew doesn't live in the area and I'm pretty sure he's said something about unfinished business with the West Ham job in the past. I think Cortese will rely on his instincts tomorrow and if he doesn't get a warm fuzzy feeling that Pardew is committed to success with Saints next season he will cut him loose and try to get someone in who is. -
Antonio - Will he be a saint next season..?
Chicken With A Banjo replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
If he wanted to sign for Reading a quote would have been published from him saying as much. They've taken up the option, to strengthen their hand in negotiations for him. He had no say in this. He may well end up back at Reading next season but only if Reading demand more than Pardew is willing to pay. This is unlikely as Reading are rumoured to need the cash so will probably take a reasonable offer. -
Just seen it. Definitely shouldn't be a red. Yeovil player should've got red. Attrocious elbow to the face. How on earth can you criticise someone for reacting to that.
-
if we beat bristol rovers. Charlton win on Tuesday Millwall win on Friday and we beat yeovil and our game and hand the Tuesday after. By end of play on that Tuesday we will be 2 points of the play off. lot's of ifs.
-
54% posession 9 shots to Charltons 1.

first of 9 must win games, classing the play off semis as one game over two legs. First of 17 must win games classing the Oldham game as 9 games.

Total points of 3rd to 6th, 37 games in, this season: 266pts Total points of 3rd to 6th, 37 games in, last season: 258pts Total points of teams in 3rd to 6th on last day of season, 37 games in, last season: 258pts Total points of 3rd to 6th, 37 games in, 2 seasons ago: 257pts Total points of teams in 3rd to 6th, on last day of season, 37 games in, 2 seasons ago: 260pts Total points of 3rd to 6th, 37 games in, 3 seasons ago: 246pts Total points of teams in, 3rd to 6th, on last day of season, 37 games in, 3 seasons ago: 249pts Average final playoff points over the last three seasons: 75 and 2/3rds pts So it would appear that considering the last 3 seasons I would have to concede that my intial comment was incorrect. However, stating that points required for playoffs this season are 79/80 points is still pure speculation. This season is almost certainly not a normal league 1 season and Saints are probably the most abnormal team in the division. For this reason I am reluctant to make a prediction. Though it would appear unlikely, I believe promotion is still there to play for.
