Pre-empting Southampton's December pitchforking
angelman replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
57, I think that the slander that is mentioned was from the press, not the fans on various forums/fora. The article doesn't actually concentrate on anything but the press reports. I would love to see if what he says comes to pass. The problem is though, that the footballing world (players, managers and supporters) all realise what has happened now, and the press dismissing us the way they did/will possibly do will come across as being nothing but triteness. Do that for too long and you loose all credibility. The likes of Ashton and Durham have been doing it for so long now, that not many people take on board what they write but just see them as WUMs. -
LOL. I would normally agree with you, but this one actually can't really fudge the answer. It just shows whether two sets of figures are tied in together and how much of a connection there is between them. I think that I best get my coat and get a life!

Oh come on, it's easy. Basic maths. Shows that, I guess in layman's terms, that the OP's theory is 60.5% bollix.

Pochettino asks Levy to sign Jay Rodriguez
angelman replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I agree, that I would let him go. He did well last season, fair enough, but not the season before with only 6 goals. If they want to buy him now, and offer a decent amount and Jrod doesn't want to be here, then given the injury and the risks associated, wouldn't it would be a little foolish not to accept? And Tony, what have you heard re Pochettino? Is it just tittle tattle on the internet or something more concrete? -
Where does he fit in? Interesting and yes we have moved on. But squad depth is something we need, and up front, what would happen if Pelle went down? Long would presumably step up and move into the centre with Mayuka on the bench. Presumably Gallagher will come back at some stage. But we are possibly a little weak if Pelle gets crook and having JRod back would be good.

I've done Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient to see whether ease of opponent and table position have any correlation. Ranked Saints as 1st with ease, Man U 2nd, etc etc and got a Correlation Coefficient of + 0.395 The results are always between -1 and +1. The closer to -1 you get, means that there is a negative correlation. At 0, it means there is NO correlation, and the closer to +1 you get, means there is a positive correlation. So while the hypothesis about ease of players and league position, has a slight positive correlation (ie is a little bit true), it isn't very strong (ie a little tenuous). Overall, I say that unless you have a positive correlation of over +0.5, and in reality more like +0.7, then the theory falls down.

Pochettino asks Levy to sign Jay Rodriguez
angelman replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
OK, he has an ACL injury that he is coming back from. All the signs are that he is doing well, but without testing it out on the pitch, you never know. So, given the story about Kane, I would give JRod an ultimatum. Sign a new contract, or sign now (which you can do, pending a move in January) for Spuds with Kane and £7.5m at least coming the other way. Personally would prefer Berahino, but Kane would be good as well. -
Austin always had a bright future didn't he, save for some serious injuries which 'Arry took a risk on that no one else would.
-
always reminds me of ball slap.
-
would that be Sanchez who just gave the ball away leading up to the 2nd goal?
-
Loved JWP in that. Gave a good vibe off and the club seems a happy place.
-
I thought so as well!! But wasn't quite sure which of the front 3 I would have taken off. Tadic seemed maybe to be getting a little tired, having been assaulted for the whole game. Pelle was having an unlucky day. Mane was causing them all sorts of problems.
-
Nor did SAFC have a man sent of after 7 minutes. But really, who cares?
-
Yup, Kane came on after 67. You might have thought that after his hat-trick, he might have started. And Ben Davies - why pay £11m for him to be behind Danny Rose, who really is rather bad, unless MP has transformed him. I did hear on the wireless, some pundit questioning that.
-
As many say, it is Baldini that could be the real problem at Spuds. He has wasted £100m, well not really wasted, but massively over spent on players who cannot justify their prices. The managers usually have very little input on transfers, which I don't think is ever a good thing for them. But going back to "Anyone notice how some guy from Espanyol ended up as Spurs manager ( sorry coach ) despite never winning **** all, not being able to speak English & never finishing in a Premier League spot above 8th?" there is a certain truth in that and it was a risk for Levy to take. And because of this, I can see the pressure mounting more quickly than say that on LvG, who has achieved in his career. The camp seems a little divided into - he needs more time & he should go now. The problem with "he needs more time" is Koeman having had less time (what with being totally new to PL). The euphoric press coverage about us last season seems to have worked in our favour on the prices we achieved on player sales, but it also massively raised MP's profile, possibly to an unrealistic level. Not our problem any more, and if it causes Spids a problem, then good. Couldn't happen to a more deserving club. And let's face it, of all the people who left and were replaced over the summer, the best replacement (so far) and the one that you would not turn the clock back for, seems to be Pochettino/Koeman. I guess though that it is still early days, but Karma's a bïtch. The longer MP struggles, I would have thought the less chance any of our players would sign for him as his job security would be more and more tenuous. As an aside, I would love to know how hard Les and Co. tried to keep him, and knowing that Koeman has ended his contract at Feyernoord, whether they played just hard enough to get the relevant compensation out of Levy. Or whether they really did try and keep him and the (Mirror's) reports of £6m a year wages was true. The press knew he was going seemingly fed by Spuds, and no one is naive enough to totally dismiss all press reports out of hand. I think that most of us, while not wanting to lose him and grasping at straws, knew deep down (not even that deep either) when the reports started coming out, that he was off.

from block 30, Northam has it but might be due to position.

The unoriginal singing does annoy me a little bit.

Sorry but I am a little too old to go into all these rather childish facepalm things. If it is because the Telegraph "deadwood" was sarcasm, so be it. But who knows after all the crap the papers have written, as well as it being the lowest form of wit (and hardly the place to be a wag is it). And not least because some of our supporters seem to think this way.
-
Deadwood? Really? Taking the Saints tinted specs off and stowing the bias....Lallana is a class act and will come good. Lambert is getting slower, but was he deadwood? Sad to say but possibly. Shaw and Chambers were hardly deadwood. Lovren is either having a shït season this one after a brilliant one last year, or last year really did flatter to deceive. So OK he is bombing this season, but I would hardly describe him as deadwood.

Am I the only person who doesn't get anxious now when the ball is passed back to the goalie. However good a shot stopper AB was, there were too many poor clearances, poor passes out, too much dallying around etc. I feel a lot more confident that there are going to be less **** ups with FF, and his kicking, while not always brilliant, is a lot better than AB.
-
Both, not either or.
-
Umm. Read it and I sure couldn't detect any sarcasm/Wum'ing. What very strange people.

What's their problem with Corkie?
