  1. Quite the opposite. More clouds equals less heating.
  2. Yup, I agree. If we leave one up then they have to leave two back to cover.
  3. I've not watched it yet, but I shall. Runaway torpedo, wasn't it?
  4. I've not watched it yetm, but I shall. Runaway torpedo, wasn't it?
  5. 5pm Monday 1st February is what is always quoted. It's because of the Bank Holiday on the 1st January, I suppose.
  6. I used to work with an ex-submariner (this was 1974) who said that some boatmates could tell if there were diving, even if it was only one degree.
  7. Isn't it amazing, the foreshortening effects of these telephoto lenses!
  8. A bit about Storrie here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1247386/Patrick-Collins-Salute-power-glory-golden-sporting-era.html In 2008-2009 he was on £1,320,000 a year!
  9. No, "St. James's" is correct. It is the street of St. James, although there are some suggestions that when it is the possessive of a personal name that ends in 's' then the 's' after the apostrophe can be dropped. (I have used quotation marks instead of apostrophes so as to make the meaning clear). A useful guide: apostrophes are never used to indicate a plural.
  10. One Sunday afternoon a few years ago I was being driven back to Hamburg airport through southern Denmark when I saw a women on a bike cycling the other way. She was stark Bollock naked. Bent (who was driving) said that it happens all the time.
  11. That's important but there have been other benefits. AP has had the opportunity to play some of the 'fringe' players and find out more about his squad. If we do get to Wembley the experience will be very useful practice for the players in case we ever do get there in the playoffs.
  12. Water vapour again: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1246904/Water-vapour-responsible-slowdown-global-warming.html
  13. ... or to boldly split infinitives... (Fowler's 'Modern English Usage' is quite entertaining on this topic) For me, correct grammar and syntax is very important. Anyone who has ever left a character out of a C program knows what the consequences can be. I would never wish to discourage anybody from expressing their views because they felt that they might be 'pulled up' because of their writing, but there are occasions where it can make all the difference. Lynn Truss is also worth a read: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eats-shoots-leaves-Tolerance-Punctuation/dp/1861976127
  14. What he said he said.
  15. I totally agree with you. I also think that it should be "50s and 60s"
  16. That's all right, then. For a moment I was worried.
  17. That looks frightening. Did I see that they couldn't put out a full bench the other night?
  18. Local talk also says that the staff have been 'warned' that they may be paid late this month. Some staff haven't been paid for a couple of months. Some are leaving for other jobs, others are hanging on (unpaid) in the hope that they'll get statutory payments when the ship sinks.
  19. He's injured, according to a local supporter I spoke to this afternoon.
  20. I went past their 'Megastore' late this afternoon. There are big red posters with 'SALE' written all over them. Well there's a surprise.
  21. We have never really controlled the midfield in any games that I have seen this season so one or two proper midfield playmakers would come in very useful. Like you, I would prefer a settled team, but we have lost Trottman and I would rather build for the long-term.
  22. Goals from Brentford now on the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/default.stm 05:51 in
  23. That's wonderful news, Hamster. Please pass on my good wishes to your missus. My wife and I met when we were both 16 and in September we shall have been married for 40 years. Every time I look at her I think how lucky I am and I would not have changed her for the world. We have raised two children and we have six grandchildren and we have two lifetimes of shared experiences to keep us together. Treasure every moment that you have, try not to have cross words with each other, hold hands, smile, remember the important things. Life is short and there's so much to see and so much to learn. The world is a beautiful place, full of beautiful people and it is a privilege to be allowed to be a part of it, especially if you can share it with the one you love. Keep smiling through.
  24. "at least" ??? Isn't that more than the stadium record?
  25. As I understand it, phone calls still work, don't they?
