It's "in the opinion of the referee" so not actually a mistake. VAR is supposedly not there to re-referee the game so not a mistake by them either. VAR is not some court of appeal and in theory is only there to try to prevent the howlers. We all have our opinions as to how that's working out.

It was the referee who decided to give it. Very generous in my opinion.

But this us exactly the point. It wasn't a freak. He got caught out at Wembley too. The slip wasn't bad luck. He was caught miles out of position and couldn't get back to recover. He needs to cut this tendency out of his game. Not a Spanish Inquisition but rather an opportunity for him to improve. There's no point making a breathtaking save in one moment but then presenting the opposition with an open goal in the next. Deal with it, but move on.

Nothing wrong with the ref. Find some other excuse. If Scienza and Manning didn't spend all their efforts flinging themselves to the ground we might have got more out of the game. The more dramatic the fall the less of a foul it is.
