  1. There has been a lot of talk about Turkey joint the EU for many years. There has been lots of positive noises but in practice there's no chance of it happening.
  2. You could just as easily argue that it's like spending every holiday in a five-star hotel with wonderful food and weather and magnificent landscaped gardens only to go marching out with you possessions tied up in a knotted handkerchief only to end up in an unheated wooden shed in a car par next to Tescos. Neither analogy has any bearing on Britain and the question as whether we remain in the EU.
  3. I said nothing of the sort so there's no need for the abusive tone. What I said was that whether we are in or out of the EU it will not make any difference to the non-EU immigration because so far there has been precious little effort to stop that, and I believe that the bulk of the EU immigration has already occurred. There is no chance that any of these already here will be kicked out and anyway, all that would happen after a Brexit is that the EU wannabes would become rest-of-the-world wannabes and I cannot see the total figures coming down significantly. In theory we control our own boarders at the moment but either can't or won't do anything about it. Do you really think any of those in the camp at Calais care whether Britain is in the EU or not?

  5. And do you think the German car industry would continue to source their supplies from th UK in the long term?
  6. No we don't. There is a net cost which is much less than the amount that we spend in foreign aid. But the point is that it is unrealistic to expect that we would get access to the EU markets for free if we were to vote to leave. In practice the cost is likely to be similar to what it is now. Plus the other aspects such as free movement of labour.
  7. Norway has to pay a fee for access and has to accept the same free movement of labour.
  8. You don't really think that we would get free access to the EU markets for free, do you?
  9. As far as I know Canada has never been a state of the USA.
  10. Stricken
  11. If you buy and sell in Euros there is no volatility. And what the hell are these 'EU rules' that hamper our trade elsewhere? If we leave the EU do you really believe that trading with them will not be more difficult and that we would have the same free access that we have at the moment? Dream on...
  12. Every FA Cup tie since 2005, or something.
  13. Very well put. I love the way that some have argued that we shall just 'increase our trade with the rest of the world'. If it were that easy we would be doing it already and we shall face increased competition from our former trading partners. We suffer from high transport costs and a volatile currency that nobody els uses or wants any more.
  14. And nobody knows which two weeks are going to be our winter. They could shut down for January and then it could freeze and snow all February.
  15. All very true. This is why players have historically always done well when played in their club pairs.
  16. For our children's and grandchildren's sake I can only hope that you will be staggered.
  17. My views are firmly in the 'stay' camp despite what the politicians think, but I wouldn't trust the opinions of either of these two clowns on anything.
  18. From what I've read support for staying in gets much higher as the age of those questioned gets lower. It seems that the youngsters see their future as part of the EU.
  19. And much better football...
  20. There's a simple solution to all this messing around with dates. Just hold all the Europa League games on a Wednesday. Football shouldn't be played on Thursday's. It's not natural and only ever used to happen with multiple FA Cup replays which are no longer with us.
  21. More about differences in upbringing, cultural background and heritage, and moral standards and values than just being an immigrant.
  22. Unless you played for Man Utd.
  23. Please don't, I'm starting to cry
  24. It was also only two points for a win.
  25. It's the first time that I can remember. I can recall the days when there were three games over the weekend and it was always reckoned that these would settle the relegation issues.
